Book Low Temperature Properties of Selected Materials

Download or read book Low Temperature Properties of Selected Materials written by Dorothea M. Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a bibliography of the work reported in the literature on the effects of low temperature on the properties of structural materials. Some of the newer areas of cryogenic technology such as superconducting machinery involve environments which may subject the components to temperature as low as 4 K. Exposure of structural materials to such low temperatures affects their properties. This bibliography contains 963 references published between 1950-1976, arranged in chronological/alphabetical order. Combined material/property indexes are provided. (Author).

Book Fracture Toughness Characteristics of the New Weldable Steels of 180 to 210 Ksi Yield Strengths

Download or read book Fracture Toughness Characteristics of the New Weldable Steels of 180 to 210 Ksi Yield Strengths written by Peter P. Puzak and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The yield strength range for steels from 180 to 210 ksi is currently covered by four weldable alloys of the following nominal chemical analysis: 18%Ni-8%Co-3%Mo maraging steel, 12%Ni-5%Cr-3%Mo maraging steel, 9%Ni-4%Co-0.20%C quenched and tempered (Q and T) steel, and 10%Ni-8%Co-2%Cr-1%Mo-0.10%C Q and T steel. Broad ranges of fracture resistance have been reported for these materials based on various fracture tests, and this report presents information for material selection and design guidance by providing an analysis of the interactions between the metallurgical and mechanical parameters that contribute to the fracture resistance of plate products. Definitions of the interaction between the metallurgical and the mechanical aspects are developed with the use of the Dynamic Tear (DT) test and the Ratio Analysis Diagram (RAD). (Author).

Book Cryogenic Effects on the Fracture Mechanics Parameters of Ferritic Nickel Alloy Steels

Download or read book Cryogenic Effects on the Fracture Mechanics Parameters of Ferritic Nickel Alloy Steels written by RL. Tobler and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fracture toughness (KIc, JIc) and fatigue-crack growth (da/dN) datafor quenched and tempered low-carbon ferritic 3.5Ni and 9Ni steels were measured at temperatures between 295 and 4 K. The tests were performed using 25- and 31-mm-thick compact specimens having fracture planes parallel to the rolling direction (TL orientation). The fracture toughness results for both steels showed qualitatively similar trends: at decreasing temperatures below 295 K, JIc increased by about 20 percent prior to the onset of classical ductile-to-brittle transitions involving cleavage. The transitions occurred between 172 and 100 K for 3.5Ni steel, and between 76 and 4 K for 9Ni steel. Transitional behavior also was evident in the fatigue crack growth behavior. The room-temperature fatigue crack growth rates for these nickel steels are typical of ferritic steels, but the rates at subtransition temperatures are accelerated drastically, in association with cleavage and other brittle cracking modes. Data comparisons between the 3.5Ni and 9Ni steels tested here and other nickel alloy steels are included.

Book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering

Download or read book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering written by K. Timmerhauso and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second International Cryogenic Materials Conference (ICMC) was held in Boulder, Colorado, in conjunction with the 1977 Cryogenic Engineering Con ference (CEC). Special thanks must be given to the University of Colorado for their skillful hosting of these two conferences. Collaboration between the two con ferences has been mutually beneficial, providing the materials special ist with insight into new applications and design concepts and the cryogenic engineer with exposure to modern materials accomplishments and potentials. The Proceedings of the 1977 Cryogenic Engineering Conference are published in Volume 23 of Advances in Cryogenic Engineering. Both conferences will be held again simul taneously in Madison, Wisconsin, in August 1979. The success and growth of the two International Cryogenic Materials Con ferences have led to the formation of an ICMC Board of Directors. The board members will serve a four-year term and include: Chairman, R. P. Reed (U.S.), R. W. Boom (U.S.), A. F. Clark (U.S.), G. Hartwig (W. Germany), J. W. Morris (U.S.), M. Suenaga (U.S.), K. Tachikawa (Japan), J. Tanaka (Japan), and K. A. Yushchenko (USSR).

Book Fatigue Crack Propagation and Fracture Toughness of 5Ni and 9Ni Steels at Cryogenic Temperatures

Download or read book Fatigue Crack Propagation and Fracture Toughness of 5Ni and 9Ni Steels at Cryogenic Temperatures written by P. C. Paris and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fracture mechanics techniques were used to investigate low temperature fatigue crack propagation properties of 5Ni and 9Ni steels. The 5Ni alloy was also tested in the welded condition. Fatigue loading was primarily zero tension, but some data were taken for fully reversed, compression-tension loading in the unwelded materials. Conventional log-log plots of range in stress intensity parameter, ?K, versus cyclic growth rate, ?a/?N, were used to assess material fatigue crack propagation behavior at -320°F, -260°F, and room temperature (70°F). Fracture toughness measurements were also obtained at -260 and -320°F for both steels and for the heat affected zone (HAZ) of the welded 5Ni steel.

Book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering

Download or read book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering written by K. Timmerhaus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First International Cryogenic Materials Conference (ICMC) provided a new forum for the presentation of low-temperature materials research. The confer ence, held in conjunction with the 1975 Cryogenic Engineering Conference, provided materials research personnel with excellent exposure to current develop ments in the cryogenics field and beneficial interactions with designers of cryogenic systems. Because of the large response to a late call for papers, the enthusiasm and encouragement at the meeting, and the wide spectrum and high quality of papers, the Second International Cryogenic Materials Conference is being planned along with the 1977 Cryogenic Engineering Conference for Boulder, Colorado, in the summer of 1977. The success of the First International Cryogenic Materials Conference was certainly in large measure due to the excellent hospitality of our Canadian hosts, the Royal Military College of Canada and Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. In particular, the efforts of A. C. Leonard and his staff ensured an excellent conference and a pleasant and memorable visit to Canada. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference Board was both generous and skillful in helping to initiate this new conference and their guidance and acceptance is gratefully acknowledged. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference program chairman, M. J. Hiza, greatly facilitated the interaction for the two conferences and provided valuable assistance in generat ing a workable program. The proceedings of the 1975 Cryogenic Engineering Conference are published as Volume 21 of the Advances in Cryogenic Engineering and include many papers indicating innovative use of new cryogenic materials properties data.
