Download or read book Eurogel 91 written by S. Vilminot and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eurogel '91 is the second conference to report on the developments in research and technology of European laboratories and industry. The volume focuses on the scientific and technological progress in the field, as well as providing a global overview of the latest developments. The fifty presented papers report on many new themes and research groups. Expansion in the utilization of the sol-gel process for new products and processes is developing steadily. Application requires an interdisciplinary effort beginning with application orientated fundamental research and ending up with engineering and technology. This interdisciplinary contact can be enhanced by closer cooperation between research and industry. In particular, potential users of innovative materials should become more aware of the possibilities connected with sol-gel technologies. At present the sol-gel process is considered as one of the most important technologies for developing innovative glasses, ceramics and composites. The contributions in this volume will be of interest to all those who are involved in the development potential of industrial and market needs.

Download or read book Modern Ceramic Engineering written by David W. Richerson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-04-27 with total page 1140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of its Third Edition, there have been many notable advances in ceramic engineering. Modern Ceramic Engineering, Fourth Edition serves as an authoritative text and reference for both professionals and students seeking to understand key concepts of ceramics engineering by introducing the interrelationships among the structure, properties, processing, design concepts, and applications of advanced ceramics. Written in the same clear manner that made the previous editions so accessible, this latest edition has been expanded to include new information in almost every chapter, as well as two new chapters that present a variety of relevant case studies. The new edition now includes updated content on nanotechnology, the use of ceramics in integrated circuits, flash drives, and digital cameras, and the role of miniaturization that has made our modern digital devices possible, as well as information on electrochemical ceramics, updated discussions on LEDs, lasers and optical applications, and the role of ceramics in energy and pollution control technologies. It also highlights the increasing importance of modeling and simulation.

Download or read book Fibre Science and Technology written by V.I. Kostikov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fibre Science and Technology is one of six titles in a coherent and definitive series of volumes dedicated to advanced composite materials research, development and usage in the former Soviet Union. Much of the information presented has been classified until recently. Thus each volume provides a unique insight into hitherto unknown research and development data. This volume deals with the basic components of a composite material, namely the reinforcement and the encasing matrix material. Beginning with a specification of a range of reinforcing fibres (glass, carbon, organic, inorganic, ceramic), the book then considers in detail the development of such fibres and the significant range of properties achieved. An extensive test methodology used to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of each type of fibre matrix combination is presented, and the production method employed for each constituent part is described. This book will be of interest to anyone involved in research or development in composite materials science and technology, both in industry and universities.
Download or read book Non Oxide Technical and Engineering Ceramics written by S. Hampshire and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conferences on technical and engineering ceramics are held with increasing frequency, having become fashionable because the potential of ceramics in profitable growth industries is an urgent matter of considerable debate and discussion. Japanese predictions are that the market value of ceramics will grow 10 at about 10% per annum to reach at least $10 by the end of the century. Seventy per cent of this market will be in electroceramics, applications for which include insulating substrates in integrated circuits, ferroelectric capacitors, piezoelectric oscillators and transdu cers, ferrite magnets, and ion-conducting solid electrolytes and sen sors. All these are oxides, and so are excluded by the title of the Limerick Conference. Why 'Non-oxide'? The other major ceramics potential is in struc tural engineering components and engine applications. Here, the greatest impetus to research and development has been the attempt to produce a ceramic gas turbine. Heat engines become more efficient as their working temperature increases, but nickel-base superalloy en gines have about reached their limit. Compared with metals, ceramics have higher strengths at high temperatures, better oxidation and corrosion resistance, and are also less dense. In general, ceramics have better properties above about 1000°C except in one respect-their inherent brittleness. The work of fracture is therefore much smaller than for metals and so the permitted flaw size is also smaller.
