Book Topological Foundations Of Electromagnetism Second Edition

Download or read book Topological Foundations Of Electromagnetism Second Edition written by Terence William Barrett and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-05-30 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aims of the book are: (1) to extend Maxwell theory to non-Abelian group forms; (2) to demonstrate that the foundations of electromagnetism are topological; (3) to show the multi-disciplinary nature of communications; (4) to demonstrate the effectiveness of modulated signals in penetrating media; (5) to demonstrate that geometric (Clifford) algebra is the appropriate algebra describing modulated signals. The book is important in indicating that the classical theory of electromagnetism, or Maxwell theory, can be developed to address situations and signals of differing symmetry form, and that different topological spaces require that development.

Book Advanced Classical Electromagnetism

Download or read book Advanced Classical Electromagnetism written by Robert Wald and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2022-03-22 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is a concise, beginning graduate-level textbook on classical electromagnetism, the branch of physics that describes the interaction of electric currents or fields and magnetic fields. Electromagnetism (also called electrodynamics) is one of the pillars of modern physics and, as such, of the modern physics curriculum, with courses on electromagnetism required at the undergraduate and graduate levels. These courses traditionally proceed in a quasi-historical fashion, starting from equations and laws that were first formulated in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and still form the foundations of our understanding of electromagnetism. However, as Robert Wald argues, teaching in this way can be imprecise and tends to promote outdated ways of thinking about the subject. This book rethinks how electromagnetism is presented at the graduate level, offering a corrective that aims to bring teaching up to date with our more modern understanding of the topic. The book begins by debunking four common misconceptions, or "myths," that can hinder a deep conceptual understanding of electromagnetism. Wald then proceeds through the major topics first-year grad courses (and textbooks) in electromagnetism typically cover, including electrostatics, dielectrics, magnetostatics, electrodynamics, geometric optics, special relativity, gauge theory, and point charge. Wald's aim throughout is to explain to students how to think about electromagnetism from a modern and mathematically precise perspective, formulating all the key conceptual ideas and results in the field clearly and concisely, while forgoing extensive collections of examples and applications. The book could be used as the basis for or as a supplement to a course, or for self-study by students seeking a deeper understanding than traditional courses and books offer"--

Book Topics In Modern Physics Theoretical Foundations

Download or read book Topics In Modern Physics Theoretical Foundations written by John Dirk Walecka and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2013-01-21 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the two previous books entitled Introduction to Modern Physics: Theoretical Foundations and Advanced Modern Physics: Theoretical Foundations exposed the reader to the foundations and frontiers of today's physics, the goal of this third volume is to cover in some detail several topics omitted in the essentially linear progression of the first two. This book is divided into three parts. Part 1 is on quantum mechanics. Analytic solutions to the Schrödinger equation are developed for some basic systems. The analysis is then formalized, concluding with a set of postulates for the theory. Part 2 is on applications of quantum mechanics: approximation methods for bound states, scattering theory, time-dependent perturbation theory, and electromagnetic radiation and quantum electrodynamics. Part 3 covers some selected topics in relativistic quantum field theory: discrete symmetries, the Heisenberg picture, and the Feynman rules for quantum chromodynamics. The three volumes in this series taken together provide a clear, logical, self-contained, and comprehensive base from which the very best students can learn modern physics. When finished, readers should have an elementary working knowledge in the principal areas of theoretical physics of the twentieth century.

Download or read book Advanced Electromagnetism written by Terence William Barrett and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 820 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Electromagnetism: Foundations, Theory and Applications treats what is conventionally called electromagnetism or Maxwell's theory within the context of gauge theory or Yang-Mills theory. A major theme of this book is that fields are not stand-alone entities but are defined by their boundary conditions. The book has practical relevance to efficient antenna design, the understanding of forces and stresses in high energy pulses, ring laser gyros, high speed computer logic elements, efficient transfer of power, parametric conversion, and many other devices and systems. Conventional electromagnetism is shown to be an underdeveloped, rather than a completely developed, field of endeavor, with major challenges in development still to be met.

Book excerpt: This book offers alternative foundations for modern physics and natural philosophy, which have been based on Einstein's relativity theory and Shroedinger Equation in the past 100+ years. While both have led to substantial progress of modern physics and sciences, they also led to many contradictions and fallacies. The whole academics ignores their fundamental errors and sees only their coincidental successes. And now the whole modern physics is at dead end, as represented by the total failures of the Big Bang theory and inability to solve the paradoxes of EPR, Missile-Well, as well as mysteries of Double Slit Experiments, Quantum Entanglement, Graviton, Strong Force, Schroedinger Wave Function, etc.. This books, for the first time, offers rigorous disproofs of the renowned Special Relativity and General Relativity theories, and therefore takes a major cornerstone of modern physics away. Fundamental concepts like space, time, entropy are newly defined on a more solid philosophic foundation. A new gravity theory is provided that solves the nature of gravity and graviton where relativity theory failed. Maxwell Equations are reexamined and reformulated into a complex number form, with the real part representing the Electric Field and imaginary part Magnetic Field. This complex form of reformulation is critical in the effort of deriving Schroedinger Equation from basic physics principles, which has been tried by many physicists including Feynman, but completely futile, so that Schroedinger Equation is still treated as an axiom to this date and Schroedinger Wave Function wrongly interpreted as probability. New theories are also provided on redshift and nuclear energies. In summary, by abandoning relativity and correcting quantum mechanics, this book offers well-round solutions to all the difficult problems that modern physics has failed, including a photon model that satisfies all the observations, and explains Double Slit Experiments, Quantum Entanglement, a particle theory that solves the nature of proton, neutron, strong force, and models of large atoms, reformulations of thermodynamics, statistical physics, astrophysics, as well as nuclear physics. As a result, the GUT and TOE problems are basically solved. The final two chapters offers views on mankind and human societies.

Book Collective Electrodynamics

Download or read book Collective Electrodynamics written by Carver A. Mead and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2002-07-26 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book Carver Mead offers a radically new approach to the standard problems of electromagnetic theory. Motivated by the belief that the goal of scientific research should be the simplification and unification of knowledge, he describes a new way of doing electrodynamics—collective electrodynamics—that does not rely on Maxwell's equations, but rather uses the quantum nature of matter as its sole basis. Collective electrodynamics is a way of looking at how electrons interact, based on experiments that tell us about the electrons directly. (As Mead points out, Maxwell had no access to these experiments.) The results Mead derives for standard electromagnetic problems are identical to those found in any text. Collective electrodynamics reveals, however, that quantities that we usually think of as being very different are, in fact, the same—that electromagnetic phenomena are simple and direct manifestations of quantum phenomena. Mead views his approach as a first step toward reformulating quantum concepts in a clear and comprehensible manner. The book is divided into five sections: magnetic interaction of steady currents, propagating waves, electromagnetic energy, radiation in free space, and electromagnetic interaction of atoms. In an engaging preface, Mead tells how his approach to electromagnetic theory was inspired by his interaction with Richard Feynman.
