Download or read book Landmarks in Foraminiferal Micropalaeontology written by A.J. Bowden and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TMS Special Publication 6. This TMS Special Publication comprises a collection of 23 papers with an international authorship reflecting on landmarks in the history and development of Foraminiferal micropalaeontology. The volume is prefaced by an introductory overview that provides a brief and selected historical setting, as well as the intended aims of the book. Selected developments in Foraminiferal studies from a global perspective are presented from the time of Alcide d'Orbigny and the founding of the Paris MNHN collections in the mid-nineteenth century to the use of foraminifera in industry, other museum collections, palaeoceanography and environmental studies, regional studies from the Southern Hemisphere and the rise and fall of significant research schools. The book concludes with a chapter on the modelling of foraminifera. Landmarks in Foraminiferal Micropalaeontology: History and Development will be of particular interest to micropalaeontologists, other Earth scientists, historians of science, museum curators and the general reader with an interest in science.
Download or read book Dasycladales written by Sigrid Berger and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1992 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first monograph atlas on Dasycladales to extensively describe the unique morphologic features of both fossil and living species, following the phylogeny of these single cell organisms through their more than 500 million years of existence. Due to the increasingly detailed knowledge on the evolution of morphologic characteristics, it is now possible to determine the time of development of the living genera, and their distribution is specified in accompanying maps. For the first time, the systematic classification of the living Dasycladales makes use of their availability in laboratory cultures. Crosses were performed between questionable species and morphologic characteristics observed over several generations excluding environmental influences on their expression. A unique collection of photographs and scanning electron micrographs documents the features of the living Dasycladales and will be of great value for researchers and students as well as easily understandable for interested observers. Schematic drawings and photographs describe the life cycle. The depicted peculiarities of the living Dasycladales, the knowledge presented on the establishment of laboratory cultures, on important techniques for cell biological research, as well as on their role in cell biology could stimulate researchers and students to "rediscover" these living fossils.

Download or read book Micropalaeontology in Petroleum Exploration written by Robert Wynn Jones and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many papers have noted the association between micropaleontology and petroleum exploration, but no book has ever provided a comprehensive and thematic treatment. This book attempts to do just that. It begins with an overview of pure micropaleontology, then treats the principles and practice of applied micropaleontology and sequence stratigraphy; case studies of applications in various geographic, geologic, and stratigraphic settings are given. The final section deals with applications outside petroleum exploration, with sections on environmental monitoring, coal mining, mineral exploration and exploitation, and engineering. Extensively illustrated and referenced, this book will benefit academic and commercial paleontologists.

This book was released on 1994-06-30 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collates a number of studies concerning the micropalaeontology of the Middle East with special reference to hydrocarbon exploration. It is an invaluable reference text which demonstates the applications of micropalaeontology and documents the microfossils of the region.
