Everyone around Iris Kelly is in love. Her best friends are all coupled up, her siblings have partners that are perfect for them, and her parents are still blissfully married. And she’s happy for all of them, truly. Iris doesn’t want any of that—dating, love, romance. She’ll stick to her commitment-free hookups, thanks very much, except no one in her life will just let her be. Everyone wants to see her settled down, but she holds firmly to her no dating rule. There’s only one problem—Iris is a romance author facing an imminent deadline for her second book, and she’s completely out of ideas. Perfectly happy to ignore her problems as per usual, Iris goes to a bar in Portland and meets a sexy stranger, Stefania, and a night of dancing and making out turns into the worst one-night stand Iris has had in her life. To get her mind off everything, Iris tries out for the lead role in a local play, a queer retelling of Much Ado About Nothing, but comes face-to-face with Stefania, whose real name turns out to be Stevie. Desperate to save face in front of her friends, Stevie asks Iris to play along as her girlfriend. Iris is shocked, but when she realizes the arrangement might provide her with some much-needed romantic content for her book, she agrees. As the two women play the part of a happy couple, lines start to blur, and they’re left wondering who will make the real first move....

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year is 1980, born and bred Sydney girl Katherine Brae has a yearning she doesn't fully understand. After the death of her beloved father, and the end of a torrid love affair that was terminated in an unexpected and spectacular style, Kate decides it's time to leave her routine bank job, cut her losses, and start afresh as far away from her old life as possible. Leaving behind the restaurants, discos, and constant buzz and excitement of city life, Kate sets out in her small MG sports car on a solitary adventure to the Australian outback. Ill prepared for the rigors of station work at Katana Downs, she struggles with the heat, isolation, and the back-breaking work required of her as a jillaroo. Adopted by one of the station’s dogs Paddy, a strangely unique red kelpie, and under the ever watchful eye of her employer Frank Noble, a wiry, sun-hardened and seemingly humourless bushy, Kate struggles and falters time and again. Eventually though, she acquires new skills, and discovers abilities she never in her wildest dreams believed she possessed. After being sent to a neighbouring property to help with the muster, Kate befriends Dave and Julie Anderson, owners of Crompton Downs. The adventure of a life time falls apart when Kate unwittingly finds herself drawn in to a whirlwind of emotions and secrets that span decades and lead to a seemingly unfathomable murder.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An “outrageous, profane, hilarious, sexy and all kinds of wacky” romantic comedy from theNew York Times bestselling author of Size Matters (Michelle Rowen, national bestselling author). What happens when an accountant decides to grab life by the horns and try something new? Apparently a pirate named Dave, a lot of pastel fleece, and blackmail—just to start with . . . Visualize and succeed, Oprah said. I was sure as hell trying, even if my campaign to score a job as the local weather girl had ended in a restraining order. Okay, TV was not my strength. But a lack of talent has never stopped me before. Which is why I’ve embarked on a writing career. I mean, how hard can it be to come up with a sexy romance? Leave it to me to wind up in a group of porno writing grannies who discuss sex toys and apple cobbler in the same breath. Also leave it to me to leak an outlandish plot idea to a bestselling author with the morals of a rabid squirrel. And only I could get arrested for a jewelry heist I didn’t commit—by a hunky cop whose handcuffs just might tempt me to sign up for a life of crime. Maybe I’ve found my calling after all . . . “A zany over-the-top rompfest.”—Lexi George, author of Demon Hunting with a Sexy Ex “The most f*cked-up bag of wonderful crazy ever.”—Dear Author “If readers are in the mood for hilarious kinkiness woven through a fun romance, then this is the book to try.”—Long and Short Reviews (4 stars)

Book Who s Swearing Now

Download or read book Who s Swearing Now written by Kristy Beers Fägersten and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who's Swearing Now? represents an investigation of how people actually swear, illustrated by a collection of over 500 spontaneous swearing utterances along with their social and linguistic contexts. The book features a focus on the use of eight swear words: ass, bitch, cunt, damn, dick, fuck, hell, shit and their possible inflections or derivations, e.g., asshole or motherfucker, offering a solution to the controversial issue of defining swear words and swearing by limiting the investigation to the core set of words most common to previous swearing studies. The specific focus results in accurate depictions of contextualized swearing utterances. Precise frequency counts are thus enabled which, along with offensiveness ratings of contextualized and non-contextualized swearing, enable a clarification of The Swearing Paradox, referring to the phenomenon of frequently used swear words also being those which traditionally are judged to be the most offensive. The book revisits the relationship between gender and swear word usage, but considers the distribution based on the core subset of swear words, revealing similarities where others have claimed differences. Significantly, Who's Swearing Now? considers the aspect of race with regards to swear word usage, and reveals behavioral differences between, for example, White and African American males and females with regards to word preferences as well as social impetuses for and effects of swearing. Questionnaire and interview data supplement the swearing utterances, revealing participants' individual credos about their own use or non-use of swear words and, interestingly, about others' allowed or ideally prohibited use of swear words. These sets of data present thought-provoking and often entertaining statements regarding the unwritten set of rules governing swearing behavior. Who's Swearing Now? concludes with close analyses of four recent and highly publicized incidences of public swear word usage, considered in light of the spontaneous swearing utterances, speaker and addressee variables such as gender, race and age, and perceptions of offensiveness and propriety.

He had been a club runner all his life, pretty good but not at the front all that often. He was what he called an ordinary runner and he came to wonder just what an ordinary runner might be capable of. How about John O'Groats to Land's End, the longest linear run in Britain, and how about making a film of it? And how about writing a book? As usual, Gavin was neither the first nor the quickest but Downhill from Here is his real triumph, written in such an engaging and witty voice the reader accompanies him every step of the way.
