This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physicians, biologists and physicists present their recent work in the field of hyperthermia with regard to both its application and its combination with radiation and chemotherapy. Current technical possibilities, clinical management and major aspects of its use for superficial and deep-seated tumors are pointed out. The main topics discussed are: changes of metabolism and microcirculation under heat conditions, the biological interaction of heat with X-rays and several chemotherapeutic agents, and the most recent clinical data from different institutions on the combined application in the treatment of cancer.
Download or read book Advances in Mutagenesis Research written by Günter Obe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied genetic research, genetic toxicology and mutation research investigate the mutagenicity and cancerogenicity of chemicals and other agents. Permanent mutation in genes and chromosomes, can be induced by a plethora of agents, including ionizing and nonionizing radiations, chemicals, and viruses. Among the aspects discussed by Advances in Mutagenesis Research are (1) the understanding of the molecular mechanisms leading to mutations, and (2) the prevention of a thoughtless introduction of mutagenic agents into the environment.

Download or read book Proceedings of the 44th Annual American Astronautical Society Guidance Navigation and Control Conference 2022 written by Matt Sandnas and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024 with total page 1810 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zusammenfassung: This conference attracts GN&C specialists from across the globe. The 2022 Conference was the 44th Annual GN&C conference with more than 230 attendees from six different countries with 44 companies and 28 universities represented. The conference presented more than 100 presentations and 16 posters across 18 topics. This year, the planning committee wanted to continue a focus on networking and collaboration hoping to inspire innovation through the intersection of diverse ideas. These proceedings present the relevant topics of the day while keeping our more popular and well-attended sessions as cornerstones from year to year. Several new topics including "Autonomous Control of Multiple Vehicles" and "Results and Experiences from OSIRIS-REx" were directly influenced by advancements in our industry. In the end, the 44th Annual GN&C conference became a timely reflection of the current state of the GN&C ins the space industry. The annual American Astronautical Society Rocky Mountain Guidance, Navigation and Control (GN&C) Conference began 1977 as an informal exchange of ideas and reports of achievements among guidance and control specialists local to the Colorado area. Bud Gates, Don Parsons, and Bob Culp organized the first conference, and began the annual series of meetings the following winter. In March 1978, the First Annual Rocky Mountain Guidance and Control Conference met at Keystone, Colorado. It met there for eighteen years, moving to Breckenridge in 1996 where it has been for over 25 years
Download or read book Biological Basis of Oncologic Thermotherapy written by Michel Gautherie and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies on the effects of hyperthermia have aroused great interest in recent years. On the one hand, it has been demonstrated. that hyperthermia may be a useful treatment modality for tumors, in combination with ionizing radia tion or cytotoxic drugs. On the other hand, it is of great scientific interest to study the effects of increased temperature on biological systems. Although hyperthermia has been used in the treatment of cancer for cen turies, its therapeutic success was doubtful. However, since it has been shown that radiation-induced cell killirtg can be remarkably enhanced by hyperthermia, many investigations have been performed with cells in vitro, tumors in situ, and normal tissues. From these studies it has been concluded that many biological phenomena and their characteristics which are found in tumors may be conducive to the use of hyperthermia in cancer therapy. Many researchers are studying the cell-killing mechanisms of heat and fac tors that modify cell thermosensitivity. A very fascinating biological phenomenon is the general observation that living cells can enhance their thermoresistance within hours of heat treatment. The development of such thermotolerance is apparently a universal process, and its mechanism is of general scientific interest. Metabolic and physiological processes are changed during and after hyperthermic treatment. These changes exert a strong feedback on the thermo sensitivity of cells and tissues, and also in fluence the heating characteristics of tissues, especially in tumors.
