Download or read book Advances in Cryptology EUROCRYPT 2004 written by Christian Cachin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-04-16 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are the proceedings of Eurocrypt 2004, the 23rd Annual Eurocrypt C- ference. The conference was organized by members of the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory in cooperation with IACR, the International Association for Cr- tologic Research. Theconferencereceivedarecordnumberof206submissions,outofwhichthe program committee selected 36 for presentation at the conference (three papers were withdrawn by the authors shortly after submission). These proceedings contain revised versions of the accepted papers. These revisions have not been checked for correctness, and the authors bear full responsibility for the contents of their papers. The conference program also featured two invited talks. The ?rst one was the 2004 IACR Distinguished Lecture given by Whit?eld Di?e. The second invited talk was by Ivan Damg? ard who presented “Paradigms for Multiparty Computation. ” The traditional rump session with short informal talks on recent results was chaired by Arjen Lenstra. The reviewing process was a challenging task, and many good submissions had to be rejected. Each paper was reviewed independently by at least three members of the program committee, and papers co-authored by a member of the program committee were reviewed by at least six (other) members. The individual reviewing phase was followed by profound and sometimes lively d- cussions about the papers, which contributed a lot to the quality of the ?nal selection. Extensive comments were sent to the authors in most cases.
Download or read book Quantum Computation written by American Mathematical Society. Short Course and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents written versions of the eight lectures given during the AMS Short Course held at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Washington, D.C. The objective of this course was to share with the scientific community the many exciting mathematical challenges arising from the new field of quantum computation and quantum information science. The course was geared toward demonstrating the great breadth and depth of this mathematically rich research field. Interrelationships withexisting mathematical research areas were emphasized as much as possible. Moreover, the course was designed so that participants with little background in quantum mechanics would, upon completion, be prepared to begin reading the research literature on quantum computation and quantum informationscience. Based on audience feedback and questions, the written versions of the lectures have been greatly expanded, and supplementary material has been added. The book features an overview of relevant parts of quantum mechanics with an introduction to quantum computation, including many potential quantum mechanical computing devices; introduction to quantum algorithms and quantum complexity theory; in-depth discussion on quantum error correcting codes and quantum cryptography; and finally, exploration into diverse connections between quantum computation and various areas of mathematics and physics.
Download or read book On Monotonicity Testing and the 2 to 2 Games Conjecture written by Dor Minzer and published by Morgan & Claypool. This book was released on 2022-12-06 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses two questions in Complexity Theory: the Monotonicity Testing problem and the 2-to-2 Games Conjecture. Monotonicity testing is a problem from the field of property testing, first considered by Goldreich et al. in 2000. The input of the algorithm is a function, and the goal is to design a tester that makes as few queries to the function as possible, accepts monotone functions and rejects far-from monotone functions with a probability close to 1. The first result of this book is an essentially optimal algorithm for this problem. The analysis of the algorithm heavily relies on a novel, directed, and robust analogue of a Boolean isoperimetric inequality of Talagrand from 1993. The probabilistically checkable proofs (PCP) theorem is one of the cornerstones of modern theoretical computer science. One area in which PCPs are essential is the area of hardness of approximation. Therein, the goal is to prove that some optimization problems are hard to solve, even approximately. Many hardness of approximation results were proved using the PCP theorem; however, for some problems optimal results were not obtained. This book touches on some of these problems, and in particular the 2-to-2 games problem and the vertex cover problem. The second result of this book is a proof of the 2-to-2 games conjecture (with imperfect completeness), which implies new hardness of approximation results for problems such as vertex cover and independent set. It also serves as strong evidence towards the unique games conjecture, a notorious related open problem in theoretical computer science. At the core of the proof is a characterization of small sets of vertices in Grassmann graphs whose edge expansion is bounded away from 1.
