Book Fort Leavenworth the People Behind the Names People Who Have Left Their Mark on the Dowager Queen of Frontier Forts Fort History Geography Buildings Stained Glass Windows Streets and Trails

Download or read book Fort Leavenworth the People Behind the Names People Who Have Left Their Mark on the Dowager Queen of Frontier Forts Fort History Geography Buildings Stained Glass Windows Streets and Trails written by U. S. Military and published by . This book was released on 2017-03-10 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of the people and organizations behind the names used at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The scores of men and women of distinction associated with the United States Armed Forces who have served at this "Dowager Queen of Frontier Posts." The people behind the place-names are an interesting lot, ranging from a teenage Girl Scout to crusty old generals. Although some of those commemorated are well known iconic figures such as Grant, Eisenhower, Patton, and Marshall, most are little known today regardless of their considerable renown among their contemporaries. As with so much of Army life, there is a regulation dealing with naming things on military installations. Army Regulation (AR) 1-33, The Army Memorial Program, details the program, lists responsibilities, identifies what qualifies as a memorial, and describes the procedure to get it done. The intent of the memorial program is to do lasting honor and to pay tribute to deceased military and civilian personnel with records of outstanding and honorable service. It recognizes the contribution to national defense of persons whose careers or actions were important to the locality where they are memorialized. Fort Leavenworth policy implements AR 1-33. Command Policy #49-08, Memorials and Dedications, directs the establishment of a committee to review requests for memorialization. Most of those honored have a local connection, although, ironically, on Fort Leavenworth the individual with the most things named for him, Ulysses S. Grant, never served at the post in uniform and only visited once while he was running for president in 1868. He profited from a distinguished career during the Civil War and by his election to two terms as the 18th president of the United States. Nothing succeeds like success. Conversely, nothing fails like failure. Scores of officers with southern roots served at Fort Leaven-worth in its formative years but resigned from the Army to fight for the Confederacy during the Civil War.Some place-names are well known while others are not. Everyone sees the street signs but may not know whom they commemorate. A few streets are named but do not have a have a sign indicating they have a name. Some locations are always identified by their name, such as the Lewis & Clark Center, the home of the Command and General Staff College. Others are better known by their building numbers, even though they have names. The headquarters of the Center for Army Lessons Learned is usually called building #50, seldom Rucker Hall. Still others are identified by function. Barth Hall, building #44, is most often called MCTP Headquarters for the resident Mission Command Training Program. And finally, some buildings are identified by a recognizable attribute such as Grant Hall, Building #52C, which is known as the "clock tower" building.

This book was released on 2018-09-15 with total page 884 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Genealogy of the Descendants of John Walker of Wigton, Scotland, With Records of a Few Allied Families: Also War Records and Some Fragmentary Notes Pertaining to the History of Virginia, 1600-1902 There was a Walker family in Virginia (supposed to have come from England), prior to the coming of our ancestor, of which Dr. Thomas Walker of Castle Hill was probably the best known repre sentative. I am of the Opinion that he and our progenitor, J ohn Walker, were related my Opinion is based chiefly upon the fact of a similarity of Christian names in the two families, and then it will be remembered that soon after coming to America J ohn Walker and several members of his household left Chester County, Pennsylvania, where they had made a temporary home, and went down into Vir ginia and settled not far from the home of this Dr. Walker, Whose presence there was probably known to his kinsmen, if they were re lated, who were seeking homes in a new country. Book excerpt: Freemasonry is a religion of works. One of its many symbols is the balance. Masons believe they will be judged by their works, based upon the balance of right and wrong in their lives. In this Picture Book you will see the true nature of Freemasonry. In II Cor. 11:13-15 we read of the "works" religions: "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore, it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works." All Masons in America enter Blue Lodge, which contains three degrees, illustrated by the three steps at the base of the pyramid. Most Masons (85%) never progress beyond Blue Degrees. Those who wish to delve deeper into the mysteries choose either the Scottish Rite (also called Jewish Rite) of 30 degrees on the left side of the pyramid, or the York Rite (also called Christian Rite) of 10 degrees on the right side of the pyramid, for a total of 33 and 13 degrees respectively. York Rite is practiced only in the Americas, whereas the Scottish Rite is worldwide. Both are Templar Rites. Many Masons in America join both Rites. The highest degree a Mason can earn is 32° Scottish Rite or 13° York Rite. Both are equal in prestige. 33° cannot be earned. It is honorary, awarded by the ruling body of Universal Freemasonry -- the Supreme Council. At any given time approximately 5,000 33rd degree Masons are in the world -- most of whom hold high positions in their governments. Initially, only 32° Scottish Rite Masons and 13° York Rite Masons could join the Shrine. Shriners, who operate Children's Hospitals, take an oath and pray to Allah, the god of Moslems (see pp. 28-30 this section). However, since 9/11 terrorist attacks on America by Moslems, Shriner membership has been decimated. To keep their Children's Hospitals open, Shriners have opened membership to 3° Master Masons.

Book excerpt: Provocative 3-book series sheds light on end-time Bible prophecy. As the year 2000 approaches, there is much interest in the prophecies of the Bible. The author begins with Scriptures from the book of Revelation & weaves an exciting tale of the future. He takes you behind the scenes & shows you who is contending for the political, religious & financial control of the world in the next century. Volume one documents that the political revolutions during the last three centuries, as well as the two World Wars of the 20th Century, were conflicts between English & French Freemasonry. Volume two carries the reader back to ancient Babylon, comparing mystery religions & their rituals with Masonic initiations, documenting that Freemasonry is the end-time power in the Bible called Mystery Babylon. Volume three addresses the universal drug problem, for the Bible states that Mystery Babylon controls drug trafficking in all nations. Starting with the British/Chinese Opium Wars a century ago, the author documents how English Freemasonry took control of world banking to finance its universal illegal drug business.
