Download or read book Forest Tree Seed Inspectors Manual written by F. T. Portlock and published by Forêts Canada. This book was released on 1988 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Canada has assisted in formulating the scheme for the control of forest reproductive material moving in international trade. The object of the scheme is to encourage production and use of forest tree reproductive materials that have been collected, processed, raised and distributed in a manner that ensures their trueness to name. Forestry Canada is the designated administrative authority for this scheme. Its forestry centres are the responsible certifying authorities. Since certification may protect the seed trade and enhance the value of seed products it is essential that the procedures of seed certification be well defined and strictly applied. The purpose of this manual is to provide practical instructions to ensure that certification procedures are properly executed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first comprehensive handbook on the seeds of trees and shrubs produced by the USDA Forest Service was USDA Misc. Pub. 654, Woody-Plant Seed Manual. The manuscript was ready for publication in 1941, but World War II delayed publication until 1948. The boom in tree planting in the 1950s and 1960s created a large demand for seeds and exposed the gaps in our knowledge concerning production and quality of seeds of woody plants in general. The 1974 Handbook proved to be very popular both in this country and abroad, leading to five printings and translations in several other languages. More than a quarter-century after its publication, however, numerous advances in tree seed technology have dictated that a new revision is needed; the result is the current volume. Part I contains information on how to get seeds and raise seedlings. Get Your Copy Now.
