The fire-cured crop averages about 12 million pounds annually. When the question of tobacco auctions for this crop was first considered, difficult problems arese. As the baskets brought in by natives contained only small amounts, it was obviously impossible to auction each basket separately. The situation was met by the Native Tobacco Board, which agreed to purchase all tobacco at a fixed price, bale it, and turn it over to the auctioneer for disposal. Australian Wheat was the cheapest foreign Wheat quoted; purchases, howk ever, were still dependent upon exchange permits. The Japanese mills were reported to be active, with stocks above normal. Wheat was quoted at the mill on February 1, as follows, duty and landing charges included Western White No. 2, per bushel; Canadian No. 1, No. 3, Australian, faa.q., Manchurian per bushel.
