This was a fun novel to read that had my head spinning from the beginning right until the unexpected end. The story is a quick and easy read full of romance, mystery, murder and sex. There are so many twists and turns, I found myself giving up on trying to guess the end and just went along for the crazy, intense ride! As a first time novelist, Mr. Rambeau captured my attention right from the start and held my attention until the very last word, at which point, I honestly wanted more. One can only hope there will be a Forbidden Steps Part 2!!! I highly recommend Forbidden Steps and eagerly await Ed Rambeau's next novel. -Alisa K. (Queens, NY) 5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! WOW! WOW! Wow! Wow! Wow! What a page turner! You CANNOT put it down. The storyline is so fresh and so well-written that I never saw any of the 3 amazing twists coming, and they were not only unexpected, but all mind-blowers. Can't wait to see the movie. -Greg Maro 5.0 out of 5 stars Ed Rambeau's Ingenious Debut Novel is Concrete Solid! Many talented people have found a measure of fame and fortune through fields such as acting, singing or songwriting; some show talent and proficiency in more than one endeavor (i.e., singers who write their own material). But not every artist is multitalented. Vocalists whose acting performances were panned by critics, or actors whose recordings made them laughingstocks rather than chartbusters, will attest to this. There are, however, exceptions, and Ed Rambeau, best known for his achievements in pop music, is such an exception. Rambeau's debut novel, a murder mystery entitled FORBIDDEN STEPS, is Exhibit A, proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Rambeau is one of those gifted entertainers who can more than hold his own in just about any field of the arts. Actually, STEPS should more properly be designated as Exhibit H, for prior to its release Rambeau had already established a solid name for himself as a songwriter, singer, actor, producer, arranger, photographer, and artist. Rambeau was one of the composers of the hit single "Navy Blue," as recorded by Diane Renay in 1964, and gained fame as a recording artist whose version of "Concrete and Clay" made the U.S. Top Thirty a year later. These are just two highlights from a career that has spanned decades and includes many facets of show business. Now, Ed Rambeau can proudly add "author" to the j

Book excerpt: In the Kingdom of Shengxiao a tradition has been carried on for centuries, the Annual Shengxiao Games. The Kingdom of Shengxiao was created by the Gods for the first twelve animals that won the Challenges of the Five Earthly Elements of Water, Fire, Metal, Earth, Wood. Their purpose was to guard the Heavenly Gates from enemies. When the murder of one of the Families’ High Elders takes place, a Key is released for another family to claim, this also meant that all Twelve Keys had now been challenged. To protect the Kingdom, it is decreed that the games be changed back to the original Dragon Games which were fought to the death leaving only one winner. Only those who belonged to the Dragonian Clan could make a challenge for the Key. A Prince who is traitor to his father the King, a Prince who does not know he is a Prince, becomes the King’s Spy, and a cousin of the King who wants the Crown are the main challengers for the Key. The Water Element Game is the first of the challenges to take place resulting in an unexpected winner. With four challenges remaining, the King’s Spy must do everything he can to win the Games and the Kingdom for his King. AK Sharma is a published poet, writer of the Arlo the Ant children’s book series, and author of her debut fantasy fiction novel The Twelve Keys. This is the first book of the ‘Kingdom’ series based on the Chinese Zodiac [Shengxiao in Mandarin]. A broadcaster with the BBC for six years, Anita’s passion for the written word has finally been brought to life through her first novel. The inspiration for the novel comes from spending over eight years living and working in China. Anita travelled to over thirteen different cities and was able to discover and experience the rich culture that China has to offer. With two grown up daughters and two young grandsons, Anita fulfils her passion for writing in-between travelling for work and spending time with her family. With one of her ‘bucket-list’ dreams realised with The Twelve Keys, the second book of the series is now in the process of being written, so watch this space. Download or read book Combinatorial Pattern Matching written by Paolo Ferragina and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-06-08 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers contained in this volume were presented at the 19th Annual S- posium on Combinatorial Pattern Matching (CPM 2008) held at the University of Pisa, Italy, June 18–20, 2008. All the papers presented at the conference are originalresearchcontributions on computational pattern matching and analysis. They were selected from 78 submissions. Each submission was reviewed by at least three reviewers. The committee decided to accept 25 papers. The programme also includes three invited talks by Daniel M. Gus?eld from the University of California, Davis, USA, J. Ian Munro from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and Prabhakar Raghavan from Yahoo! Research, USA. The objective of the annual CPM meetings is to provide an international forum for research in combinatorial pattern matching and related applications. It addresses issues of searching and matching strings and more complicated p- terns such as trees, regular expressions, graphs, point sets, and arrays. The goal is to derive non-trivialcombinatorialproperties of suchstructures and to exploit these properties in order to either achieve superior performance for the cor- sponding computational problems or pinpoint conditions under which searches cannotbeperformede?ciently. Themeeting also dealswith problems incom- tational biology, data compression, data mining, coding, information retrieval, natural language processing and pattern recognition.
Download or read book Computational Counterpoint Worlds written by Octavio Alberto Agustín-Aquino and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical theory of counterpoint was originally aimed at simulating the composition rules described in Johann Joseph Fux’s Gradus ad Parnassum. It soon became apparent that the algebraic apparatus used in this model could also serve to define entirely new systems of rules for composition, generated by new choices of consonances and dissonances, which in turn lead to new restrictions governing the succession of intervals. This is the first book bringing together recent developments and perspectives on mathematical counterpoint theory in detail. The authors include recent theoretical results on counterpoint worlds, the extension of counterpoint to microtonal pitch systems, the singular homology of counterpoint models, and the software implementation of contrapuntal models. The book is suitable for graduates and researchers. A good command of algebra is a prerequisite for understanding the construction of the model.

In addition to serving as an essential reference for researchers and teachers in the fields such as materials science, condensed matter physics, solid-state chemistry, structural biology and the molecular sciences generally, the Springer Handbook of Microscopy is a unified, coherent and pedagogically attractive text for advanced students who need an authoritative yet accessible guide to the science and practice of microscopy.
Download or read book Photosensitization and Photocatalysis Using Inorganic and Organometallic Compounds written by K. Kalyanasundaram and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photosensitization and photocatalysis refer to processes by which permanent chemical transformations are induced on substrates (organic/inorganic) by radiation to which the substrates themselves are transparent. Such transformations can be highly specific, very efficient, and occur under mild conditions. Herein lies the power of photochemical methods for possible applications in the field of conversion and storage of solar energy. This book provides a recent survey of the progress in this important area in catalysis, with an emphasis on inorganic complexes and organometallic compounds as the key light aborbers. The book is organized in three parts: fundamentals, followed by applications. Discussions cover a wide variety of photosensitized or photocatalyzed reactions: decomposition of water, reduction of CO2 and CO; spectral sensitization in photoelectrochemical cells; transformations (oxidation, reduction, isomerization, hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, carbonylation, etc.) of organics such as alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, etc. In view of the variety of systems (sensitizers, substrates) and the topics covered, the volume is unique in the field of photochemistry and will appeal to academic and industrial researchers in various subdisciplines of chemistry, material science and catalysis.

Download or read book Robin Rainbow written by Donald McCrory and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2024-05-24 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robin Rainbow is a contemporary work of fiction written for young adults. The discovery of a casket that contains a map with a riddle sends Robin and his school friends on a quest that leads them to encounter the ever-present forces of Evil that lurk everywhere. Dramatic turning-points that include their capture, escape, recapture, their rescue via celestial beings and their return to ‘everyday reality, dictate the novel’s narrative arc. When at war with the powers of evil, concern at their disappearance from home and school soon becomes global. To find the missing children, huge rewards are offered that tempt bounty-hunters from across the world. Their disappearance is taken more seriously than any illegal invasion of another country or outbreak of Covid-19 and its variants or any alleged alien abduction! Conversational in style, the text both challenges and entertains. The element of surprise, a deep thirst for adventure, the search for knowledge and happiness sustain the reader’s interest throughout.
