I read this book when I was in the third grade. I went to a country school where all grades were in the same room and our library was in a small metal cabinet. My lifetime love of reading was born in that little school and I read every book in it's library. This wonderful book had a young girl's heart hurting and in tears for the innocence of the people and their interactions. I couldn't believe it was the same book but there it was in Kindle Unlimited. A book I never forgot and I am 87 years old.
