Book excerpt: Fluorine Chemistry, Volume IV provides an extensive survey and discussion on the physiological properties of fluoride ion and substances capable of producing it in aqueous solution. This book elaborates the detrimental effects of excessive fluoride ingestion, through the beneficial effects of optimal amounts, to recognized detrimental effects, such as dental caries accompanied by suboptimal fluoride intake. Fluoride metabolism is discussed in detail, including the capacity for storage of fluoride by the bones and rates of excretion of fluoride from the body. This text also covers the relation of fluoride ion to the health of teeth and bones. This publication is a good source for chemists and clinicians intending to acquire knowledge of the biological effects of fluoride.

Book Fluorine in Organic Chemistry

Download or read book Fluorine in Organic Chemistry written by Richard D. Chambers and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of carbon-fluorine bonds into organic compounds can profoundly influence their chemical and physical properties when compared to their non-fluorine-containing analogues, leading to a range of man-made materials with highly desirable properties. These molecules are of interest across the wide spectrum of industrial and academic organic chemistry, from pharmaceuticals, through fine and specialty chemicals to polymers. From Prozac to Teflon, many of the most important products of the chemical and life-science industries rely on organic fluorine chemistry for their useful properties. This book covers both the preparative methodologies and chemical properties of partially and highly fluorinated organic systems.

Book High valent Perfluoronickelacycles

Download or read book High valent Perfluoronickelacycles written by Nicole Marie Hunter and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluorocarbons (FCs) and their derivatives (FCDs) are heavily relied on due to their wide range of uses (e.g. solvents, surfactants, refrigerants, and pharmaceuticals). Currently, FCs and FCDs are produced on an industrial scale via energy-intensive processes, using hazardous materials. Hence, new catalytic chemical technologies are required to provide cleaner and greener synthetic routes to partially fluorinated materials. The exploration of fundamental organofluorometallic chemistry of base metals, such as nickel, has potential to advance the development of novel catalytic processes towards this end. It has been established previously that zero-valent nickel complexes have the ability to efficiently catalyze the hydrodimerization of polyfluoroalkenes. The reactivity of the intermediate polyfluoronickelacycles was found to be influenced by modifications in the ligand sphere. Furthermore, an increase in oxidation state of the central metal atom was proposed as an additional strategy to increase the reactivity of the M-RF bond. In this thesis, through variation of the ligand environment and oxidation state of nickel, we have further developed the chemistry of high-valent polyfluoronickelacycles. Synthesis and characterization (NMR, EPR, UV/Vis, IR spectroscopy and electrochemistry) of new trivalent polyfluoronickelacycles are described as well as attempts to generate the corresponding tetravalent cations. Attempts to induce nucleophilic insertion of acetonitrile into the Ni-RF bond were also investigated herein. Challenges were encountered with the isolation of the tetravalent cations due to decomposition to the corresponding divalent nickelacycle.

Book Fluorine Chemistry V2

    Book Details:
  • Author : J.H. Simons
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2012-12-02
  • ISBN : 0323145434
  • Pages : 577 pages

Download or read book Fluorine Chemistry V2 written by J.H. Simons and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluorine Chemistry, Volume II focuses on studies on fluorocarbons and fluorocarbon derivatives. Composed of various literature, the book first discusses fluorine-containing complex salts and acids. The complex fluorides of alkali metals, beryllium, boron, carbon, silicon, germanium, tin, and lead are described. The text also looks at research on halogen fluorides. The physical properties of chlorine, bromine, and iodine fluorides; halogen fluorides as ionizing solvents; and acids and bases in iodine pentafluoride and chlorine trifluoride are discussed. The book discusses analytical chemistry of fluorine and fluorine-containing compounds. Analysis of gaseous samples; separation and isolation of fluorine; qualitative detection and identification of fluorine; and determination of fluorine in specific materials are described. The text also focuses on organic compounds containing fluorine. Alcohols, acids and their derivatives, polymer containing fluorines, amines, amino acids, drugs, dyes, and pesticides are discussed as well. The book further looks at metallic compounds containing fluorocarbon radicals and organometallic compounds containing fluorine, fluorocarbon chemistry, and the infrared spectra of fluorocarbons and related compounds. The text is a vital source of information for readers wanting to study fluorocarbons and fluorocarbon derivatives.

Book Fluorocarbon and Related Chemistry

Download or read book Fluorocarbon and Related Chemistry written by R E Banks and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Book Inorganic Reactants for Synthesis of Novel Fluorocarbon Derivatives

Download or read book Inorganic Reactants for Synthesis of Novel Fluorocarbon Derivatives written by Carl J. Schack and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several different fluorocarbon fluids containing the SF5O- and CF3O- groups have been prepared using fluoroolefins and either SF5OOSO2F or CF3OOSO2F. In addition the fluorocarbon ethers, SF5OC2F4OSO2F and CF3OC2F4OSO2F, and several of their derivatives were prepared and characterized. Chlorine fluorosulfate and bromine fluorosulfate were shown to have wide utility in the displacement of halide from fluorocarbon halides (R sub f X) resulting in the formation of fluorocarbon fluorosulfates. The R sub f SO3F compounds are readily converted to derivatives such as acid fluorides, acids, etc., and in this way functionality is introduced into relatively inert fluorocarbons. A new method was discovered for the introduction of fluorine into an aromatic ring with retention of aromaticity, using NF4BF4 in HF solution. Also when the arene is already highly fluorinated, it was shown that a slower addition of fluorine occurred to give cyclohexadienes and cyclohexenes.
