Download or read book Introduction of Novel Drug Delivery Systems written by Sonal Vyas and published by CBS Publishers & Distributors Pvt Limited, India. This book was released on 2020-01-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a useful textbook and resource for undergraduateand postgraduate students and anyone in the working concepts of a drug delivery system and its performance. A novel drug delivery system refers to strategy, technology, formulation-based approaches and customized system(s) developed for safe administration and within body transportation of drugs as needed for optimum therapeutic benefits while ensuring minimum to nil toxic effects. Multidisciplinary approaches and cutting edge technology have been used to develop the carrier modules to deliver the contained drug to the target tissues in a preprogrammed manner. The process desirably modifies the drug distribution and accumulation, thereby producing optimum therapeutic effects. Carrier-mediated drug delivery has emerged as a powerful technology for the treatment of various difficult pathologies. The therapeutic index of conventional and novel drug is enhanced owing to specificity due to targeting of drug to the particular tissue. This book includes an introduction to novel drug delivery, oral osmotic pumps, bioadhesive and mucoadhesive systems, multiple emulsions, colon-specific drug delivery systems, transdermal drug delivery systems, spherical crystallization, microemulsion, implants and inserts, micellar systems, liposomes, microspheres and microcapsules, nanoparticles, resealed erythrocytes, transfersomes and ethosomes, organogels, dendrimers, niosomes, solid lipid nanoparticles, drug conjugates, cyclodextrin complexes, multifunctional nanomedicines, and floating drug delivery system(s). Each chapter attempts to discuss introduction, concept, progress, status and future prospects of the concerned novel drug delivery system.

Book Physiological Pharmaceutics

Download or read book Physiological Pharmaceutics written by Neena Washington and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-12-21 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the emphasis in drug development has been the design of new delivery systems rather than new drugs. It is the aim of innovative pharmaceutical scientists to design the new dosage forms to overcome the body's barrier mechanisms which have specifically evolved to exclude foreign material. This book provides an integrated approach to the study of drug formulation in the body with the emphasis on the formulation variables rather than the drugs. The link between physiology and pharmaceutics is presented to give an essential background of biological principles for the pharmacy student, pharmaceutical formulator and healthcare professional. Complex mathematical aspects of physical chemistry have been avoided to facilitate understanding, enabling the reader to concentrate on how the biological environment affects the performance of the drugs and dosage forms. As the majority of drugs are administered via the oral route a large proportion of the book is devoted to the gastrointestinal tract and the variation in the capacity for drug absorption which occurs along its length. Transdermal, ocular, pulmonary and nasal drug delivery are discussed in detail. New chapters in the book include 'Vaginal drug delivery', the 'Blood brain barrier' and 'Parenteral drug delivery'.

Book 3D Printing of Pharmaceuticals and Drug Delivery Devices

Download or read book 3D Printing of Pharmaceuticals and Drug Delivery Devices written by Dimitrios A. Lamprou and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-07-01 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 3D printing (3DP) process was patented in 1986; however, only in the last decade has it begun to be used for medical applications, as well as in the fields of prosthetics, bio-fabrication, and pharmaceutical printing. 3DP or additive manufacturing (AM) is a family of technologies that implement layer-by-layer processes in order to fabricate physical models based on a computer aided design (CAD) model. 3D printing permits the fabrication of high degrees of complexity with great reproducibility in a fast and cost-effective fashion. 3DP technology offers a new paradigm for the direct manufacture of individual dosage forms and has the potential to allow for variations in size and geometry as well as control dose and release behavior. Furthermore, the low cost and ease of use of 3DP systems means that the possibility of manufacturing medicines and medical devices at the point of dispensing or at the point of use could become a reality. 3DP thus offers the perfect innovative manufacturing route to address the critical capability gap that hinders the widespread exploitation of personalized medicines for molecules that are currently not easy to deliver. This Special Issue will address new developments in the area of 3D printing and bioprinting for drug delivery applications, covering the recent advantages and future directions of additive manufacturing for pharmaceutical products.
