With this in mind, Rite, Flesh, and Stone proposes cultural matters of death as its structuring principle, operating as frames of the expression of mortality within a distinct set of coordinates. The chapters offer original approaches to how human remains are handled in the embodied rituals and social performances of contemporary funeral rites of all kinds; furthermore, they explore how dying flesh and corpses are processed by means of biopolitical technologies and the ethics of (self-)care, and how the vibrant and breathing materiality of the living is transformed into stone and analogous kinds of tangible, empirical presence that engender new cartographies of memory. Each coming from a specific disciplinary perspective, authors in this volume problematize conventional ideas about the place of death in contemporary Western societies and cultures using Spain as a case study. Materials analyzed here—ranging from cinematic and literary fictions, to historical archives and anthropological and ethnographic sources—make explicit a dynamic scenario where actors embody a variety of positions toward death and dying, the political production of mortality, and the commemoration of the dead. Ultimately, the goal of this volume is to chart the complex network in which the disenchantment of death and its reenchantment coexist, and biopolitical control over secularized bodies overlaps with new avatars of the religious and non-theistic desires for memorialization and transcendence.

Her boyfriend, Iceberg, is a great father to their two children and an excellent role model to her other five kids. But the day she turns around to see her five year old with haunting black eyes and changing skin color changes everything. Trying to hide a family secret from Iceberg, Abrial packs up the family and moves to France while he's away for work. Leaving him to return to an empty house. He tracks he down but finds that something else is tracking her as well. Something that is huge and flies in the air. This is when Abrial reveals her family secret to Iceberg while protecting him from the gargoyle tracking her. Iceberg suddenly finds himself in a hidden world filled with gargoyles that he must live with. After all, Abrial and his kids are gargoyles too. If he really wants to be with them, he has to live with them and keep their secret to himself. Little do he know, he's becoming more like them as time goes on. As Abrial's oldest son, Archard, reaches eighteen, he goes through the final stage of "adulthood" for a half breed gargoyle. This is when a full blood gargoyle, Stone, drops in during a birthday celebration to announce that he and his followers are taking what they need and want from the castle giving the celebration. As everyone gets ready for a fight, Stone takes a special liking for Abrial, who hasn't seen him since she was a child. A new task is at hand when Abrial is taken by one of Stone's followers and brought to him with intentions of her being his mate. Iceberg becomes ill as his body is starting to change into something unexpected. Abrial's kids must work together to fond their mom, fight to get her back and kill to keep her away from Stone. In order to protect her kids from being killed, Abrial changes into another type of creature that many never knew existed. When she returns home everything seems to be okay. Her kids are safe. Iceberg is alright. She's at home where she wants to be. It's just one thing she forgot to do that has her worried about the future. Did she kill all the threatening gargoyles?
