Book Elementor Colossal Downfall

Download or read book Elementor Colossal Downfall written by Sean Carter and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-02-02 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Mystifying Tale of The Last Elementor Born When Naes was born, his parents admired his beauty, especially his bright blue eyes. But something was different about him that they did not yet realize—Naes was the last Elementor born. Ages ago, in lands beyond imagination, there were the Elementors. They were people of any race: men, elves, or dwarves, who were born with a consciousness in them called an Element. These Elements had to grow and mature in thought as their Elementor did. When the time was right, the Element would begin to show its presence to its Elementor so at a later age, they could learn how to use their magnifi cent power. Naes never grasped how he got his Element or what made him “chosen” over others. Orphaned at a young age, he was taken in by Bardrick and his brother Rhangorr, after they found him unconscious in the fi elds. The brothers became Naes’ mentors; helping him discover and work in unison with his Element. However, his power became too strong, sometimes, even for him to handle. Will this lead him to use his power for the will of good? Or for evil? Mystifying and engaging, Colossal Downfall thrusts readers in the middle of mythical proportions with its vivid descriptions and creative use of words...

Book Government of Peace

Download or read book Government of Peace written by Ranabir Samaddar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Government of Peace addresses a major question in world politics today: how does post-colonial democracy produce a form of governance that copes with conflicts, insurgencies, revolts, and acute dissents? The contributors view social governance as a crucial component in answering this question and their narratives of governance aim to show how certain appropriate governing modes make social conflicts more manageable or at least also occasions for development. They show how government often expands to cope with acute conflicts; money is made more readily available; the transfer of resources acquires frantic pace; and so society becomes more attuned to a money-centric, modern life. Yet this style of governance is not the only approach. Dialogues from below challenge this accepted path to peacebuilding and new subjectivities emerge from movements for social justice by women, migrants, farmers, dalits, low-caste, and other subaltern groups. The idea of a government of peace sits at the core of the interlinked issues of social governance, peace-building, and security. By exploring this idea and analysing the Indian experience of insurgencies and internal conflicts the contributors collectively show how rules of social governance can and have evolved.

Book Maya Sacred Geography and the Creator Deities

Download or read book Maya Sacred Geography and the Creator Deities written by Karen Bassie-Sweet and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2014-10-22 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The K’iche’ Maya creation story preserved in the sixteenth-century manuscript Popol Vuh describes the origin of the world and its people in a setting long assumed to be the Guatemalan central highlands. Now a scholar with a deep knowledge of Maya history shows that all of these mythological events occurred at specific locations and that this landscape was the template for the Maya worldview. Examining the primary Maya deities, Karen Bassie-Sweet links geographic features to gods and beliefs. She reconstructs key elements of the Popol Vuh to argue that the three volcanoes around Lake Atitlan were the three thunderbolt gods and that the lake was the center of the world. She also shows that the Maya view of the creation of humans is centered on corn and examines core beliefs about the corn cycle to propose that the creation myth was established much earlier in Maya history than previously supposed. Generously illustrated, Maya Sacred Geography and the Creator Deities is a detailed ethnohistorical analysis of Maya religion, cosmology, and ritual practice that convincingly links mythology to the land. A comprehensive treatment of Maya religion, it provides an essential resource for scholars and will fascinate any reader captivated by these ancient beliefs.

Book excerpt: "The art of life is the most distinguished and rarest of all the arts." -C.G. Jung, CW 8, par. 789. The Cycle of Life explores the patterns that unfold over the course of our lives, as we set out to find our place in the world, in our efforts to live authentically, and in our search for home-that place within ourselves that can so easily be neglected or disregarded in this fast-paced modern world. In the first half of life, the task of the young traveler is to depart from home, to adventure out into the world to find his or her own individual path. However, in the second half, we find ourselves on what often amounts to a very long journey in search of home. In many a tale, the hero, for instance Gilgamesh, sets off on his road to find life's elixir, while other stories, such as the Odyssey, revolve around the hero's long and arduous journey home. Many are also familiar with the journey of Dante, who at the very beginning of his Divine Comedy finds himself "Midway along the journey of our life.” The archetypal journey of life is constantly reenacted in the never-ending process of individuation. We find ourselves returning to this venture repeatedly, every night, as we set out on our voyage into the landscape of our unconscious. Many dreams begin by being on the way, for instance: I am on my way to ... I am driving on a road that leads into the desert ... I am walking through one room after the other in a long corridor-like building ... I am walking towards my office, but it looks different than in reality ... I walk on the pavement and on the opposite side of the street someone seems to be following me ... I go down into an underground parking ... I am in my car, but someone I don't know is driving ... I have to go to the place from where I came ...
