Download or read book Rehabilitation Techniques for Stripped Asphalt Pavements written by David R. Johnson and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asphalt stripping is a fairly common form of distress for pavements in Montana, particularly for pavements that were surfaced with an open graded friction course. Currently, the technique for rehabilitating these pavements involves the costly removal of most or all of the stripped material, prior to the placement of an overlay. The goal of this research was to determine whether the stripped material can remain in place, serving as a structural layer within the rehabilitated pavement. This study has involved the construction of five test sites, which were incorporated into larger overlay projects. At each of these sites, stripped material was removed from a control section and stripped material was left in place for a test section, prior to the placement of the overlay. Leaving stripped asphalt concrete surface material in place during rehabilitation, to be overlayed with the new asphalt concrete, did not tend to make the rehabilitated pavement more susceptible to either stripping damage or load induced damage. Life cycle cost analyses should consider rate of stripping deterioration (in./year) to new asphalt concrete to be the same, whether or not stripped material is removed prior to placing an overlay. Overlay thickness and mix design methods for resisting stripping are the important factors for extending the life of a rehabilitated stripped asphalt pavement.
Download or read book Gravel Roads written by Ken Skorseth and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual is to provide clear and helpful information for maintaining gravel roads. Very little technical help is available to small agencies that are responsible for managing these roads. Gravel road maintenance has traditionally been "more of an art than a science" and very few formal standards exist. This manual contains guidelines to help answer the questions that arise concerning gravel road maintenance such as: What is enough surface crown? What is too much? What causes corrugation? The information is as nontechnical as possible without sacrificing clear guidelines and instructions on how to do the job right.

Download or read book Recovery Act written by Katherine Siggerud and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A hallmark of efforts to implement the $862 billion Amer. Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) is to be transparent and accountable about what the money is being spent on and what is being achieved. To help achieve these goals, recipients are to report every 3 months on their award activities and expected outcomes. This report covers 11 fed. programs focused on broadband, energy, transport., fed. bldgs., and civil works activities, representing $67 billion in ARRA funding. The report: (1) describes how the OMB and fed. agencies implemented the act to report funds' uses; and (2) assesses the extent to which descriptions of awards meet transparency criteria. Includes recommendations. Illustrations.
