Book New Technology Development for Advanced Clean Solid Catalysts for Fischer Tropsch Synthesis

Download or read book New Technology Development for Advanced Clean Solid Catalysts for Fischer Tropsch Synthesis written by Mengnan Lu and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis converts syngas into liquid hydrocarbons over cobalt catalyst for new ultraclean alternative fuels. The syngas can be produced from both fossil and renewable resources. The catalysts for FT synthesis are currently prepared by chemical ways like impregnation etc. All these routes involve toxic solvents and high temperature retreatment. Because of lower cost, reduced energy requirements and environmental pollution, the mechano-chemistry has a number of advantages for the synthesis of heterogeneous catalysis compared to conventional techniques. In this study, the mechano-chemical method was used to prepare alumina supported cobalt catalysts for FT synthesis. Differently to the conventional catalyst preparation, the deposition of active phase did not involve any solvent in the proposed method. The goal of this work is to obtain efficient FT catalysts and to simplify catalyst synthesis by reducing the number of preparation steps. The project involves innovative method of synthesis of catalysts in three different mechanical working processes in dry context. The process of mechano-chemistry to synthesize the catalyst for FT reaction was developed. The operating conditions for the control of the coating technique were identified through optimal conditions study by statistical analysis. Moreover, characterizations were studied to understand the basic mechanisms behind deposition of particles on the interface. Catalytic performance tests were estimated in a mili-fixed bed reactor; Optimization algorithm of parameters in a mechanical process was carried out via deriving target formula about energy and material size.

Book Fundamentals of Industrial Catalytic Processes

Download or read book Fundamentals of Industrial Catalytic Processes written by C. H. Bartholomew and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-11-30 with total page 1224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catalysis is central to the chemical industry, as it is directly or involved in the production of almost all useful chemical products. In this book the authors, present the definitive account of industrial catalytic processes. Throughout Fundamentals of Industrial Catalytic Processes the information is illustrated with many case studies and problems. This book is valuable to anyone wanting a clear account of industrial catalytic processes, but is particularly useful to industrial and academic chemists and engineers and graduate working on catalysis. This book also: Covers fundamentals of catalytic processes, including chemistry, catalyst preparation, properties and reaction engineering. Addresses heterogeneous catalytic processes employed by industry. Provides detailed data on existing catalysts and catalytic reactions, process design and chemical engineering. Covers catalysts used in fuel cells.

Book Fischer Tropsch Synthesis

Download or read book Fischer Tropsch Synthesis written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of ammonia in syngas on the performance of various supported cobalt catalysts (i.e., Al2O3, TiO2 and SiO2) was investigated during Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) using a continuously stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The addition of ammonia (10 ppmv NH3) caused a significant deactivation for all supported cobalt catalysts, but the rate of deactivation was higher for the silica-supported catalysts relative to the alumina and titania-supported catalysts used in this work. Ammonia addition had a positive effect on product selectivity (i.e., lower light gas products and higher C5+) for alumina and titania-supported catalysts compared to ammonia free conditions, whereas, the addition of ammonia increased lighter hydrocarbon (C1-C4) products and decreased higher hydrocarbon (C5+) selectivity compared to ammonia-free synthesis conditions for the silica-supported catalyst. For alumina and titania-supported catalysts, the activity almost recovered with mild in-situ hydrogen treatment of the ammonia exposed catalysts. For the silica-supported catalyst, the loss of activity is somewhat irreversible (i.e., cannot be regained after the mild hydrogen treatment). Addition of ammonia led to a significant loss in BET surface area and changes in pore diameter (consistent with pore collapse of a fraction of pores into the microporous range as described in the literature), as well as formation of catalytically inactive cobalt support compounds for the silica-supported catalyst. On the other hand, the pore characteristics of alumina and titania-supported catalysts were not significantly changed. In conclusion, XANES results of the ammonia exposed silica-supported catalysts further confirm the formation of cobalt-support compounds (cobalt silicates).
