Book Sums of Squares of Integers

Download or read book Sums of Squares of Integers written by Carlos J. Moreno and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-12-09 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sums of Squares of Integers covers topics in combinatorial number theory as they relate to counting representations of integers as sums of a certain number of squares. The book introduces a stimulating area of number theory where research continues to proliferate. It is a book of "firsts" - namely it is the first book to combine Liouville's elementary methods with the analytic methods of modular functions to study the representation of integers as sums of squares. It is the first book to tell how to compute the number of representations of an integer n as the sum of s squares of integers for any s and n. It is also the first book to give a proof of Szemeredi's theorem, and is the first number theory book to discuss how the modern theory of modular forms complements and clarifies the classical fundamental results about sums of squares. The book presents several existing, yet still interesting and instructive, examples of modular forms. Two chapters develop useful properties of the Bernoulli numbers and illustrate arithmetic progressions, proving the theorems of van der Waerden, Roth, and Szemeredi. The book also explains applications of the theory to three problems that lie outside of number theory in the areas of cryptanalysis, microwave radiation, and diamond cutting. The text is complemented by the inclusion of over one hundred exercises to test the reader's understanding.

Book Integral Representation and the Computation of Combinatorial Sums

Download or read book Integral Representation and the Computation of Combinatorial Sums written by G. P. Egorychev and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1984-12-31 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph should be of interest to a broad spectrum of readers: specialists in discrete and continuous mathematics, physicists, engineers, and others interested in computing sums and applying complex analysis in discrete mathematics. It contains investigations on the problem of finding integral representations for and computing finite and infinite sums (generating functions); these arise in practice in combinatorial analysis, the theory of algorithms and programming on a computer, probability theory, group theory, and function theory, as well as in physics and other areas of knowledge. A general approach is presented for computing sums and other expressions in closed form by reducing them to one-dimensional and multiple integrals, most often to contour integrals.

Book Analysis of Arithmetic for Mathematics Teaching

Download or read book Analysis of Arithmetic for Mathematics Teaching written by Gaea Leinhardt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume emerges from a partnership between the American Federation of Teachers and the Learning Research and Development Center at the University of Pittsburgh. The partnership brought together researchers and expert teachers for intensive dialogue sessions focusing on what each community knows about effective mathematical learning and instruction. The chapters deal with the research on, and conceptual analysis of, specific arithmetic topics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions) or with overarching themes that pervade the early curriculum and constitute the links with the more advanced topics of mathematics (intuition, number sense, and estimation). Serving as a link between the communities of cognitive researchers and mathematics educators, the book capitalizes on the recent research successes of cognitive science and reviews the literature of the math education community as well.

Book Trigonometric Sums in Number Theory and Analysis

Download or read book Trigonometric Sums in Number Theory and Analysis written by Gennady I. Arkhipov and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-08-22 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents the theory of multiple trigonometric sums constructed by the authors. Following a unified approach, the authors obtain estimates for these sums similar to the classical I. M. Vinogradov ́s estimates and use them to solve several problems in analytic number theory. They investigate trigonometric integrals, which are often encountered in physics, mathematical statistics, and analysis, and in addition they present purely arithmetic results concerning the solvability of equations in integers.

Book Area Lattice Points and Exponential Sums

Download or read book Area Lattice Points and Exponential Sums written by M. N. Huxley and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 1996-06-13 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In analytic number theory a large number of problems can be "reduced" to problems involving the estimation of exponential sums in one or several variables. This book is a thorough treatment of the developments arising from the method developed by Bombieri and Iwaniec in 1986 for estimating the Riemann zeta function on the line *s = 1/2. Huxley and his coworkers (mostly Huxley) have taken this method and vastly extended and improved it. The powerful techniques presented here go considerably beyond older methods for estimating exponential sums such as van de Corput's method. The potential for the method is far from being exhausted, and there is considerable motivation for other researchers to try to master this subject. However, anyone currently trying to learn all of this material has the formidable task of wading through numerous papers in the literature. This book simplifies that task by presenting all of the relevant literature and a good part of the background in one package. The audience for the book will be mathematics graduate students and faculties with a research interest in analytic theory; more specifically, those with an interest in exponential sum methods. The book is self-contained; any graduate student with a one semester course in analytic number theory should have a more than sufficient background.

Book More Almost Impossible Integrals Sums and Series

Download or read book More Almost Impossible Integrals Sums and Series written by Cornel Ioan Vălean and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-24 with total page 847 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, the much-anticipated sequel to (Almost) Impossible, Integrals, Sums, and Series, presents a whole new collection of challenging problems and solutions that are not commonly found in classical textbooks. As in the author’s previous book, these fascinating mathematical problems are shown in new and engaging ways, and illustrate the connections between integrals, sums, and series, many of which involve zeta functions, harmonic series, polylogarithms, and various other special functions and constants. Throughout the book, the reader will find both classical and new problems, with numerous original problems and solutions coming from the personal research of the author. Classical problems are shown in a fresh light, with new, surprising or unconventional ways of obtaining the desired results devised by the author. This book is accessible to readers with a good knowledge of calculus, from undergraduate students to researchers. It will appeal to all mathematical puzzlers who love a good integral or series and aren’t afraid of a challenge.
