Book First Steps in Photography Classic Reprint

Download or read book First Steps in Photography Classic Reprint written by J. C. H. Wallsgrove and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Steps in Photography The preparation of the fourth edition of this little book has been undertaken with some amount of pleasure on account of the very favourable reception accorded to its immediate predecessor - respecting its practical and simple explanations - by the Press and by Beginners who have found its teachings of great use to them. The new edition has been more profusely illustrated with drawings lettered in such a manner that they may be easily connected with the text. From this cause it has been necessary to practically re-write the whole work. This feature should be of great assistance to the reader, as it renders the descriptions so much clearer. The drawings have been made without any intention of illustrating any special make of apparatus, but to explain the structural arrangements and to show the principles underlying the various movements. To be successful in the practice of photography it is essential that it is not undertaken in any haphazard sort of manner. It requires thought, system and cleanliness. Results do not so much depend upon the apparatus as upon the individual using it. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Step in Photography: Tells How to Make Photographs In presenting this little book to the reader I assume two things first, that he knows absolutely nothing about photography; and second, that he is anxious to become acquainted with the art. Not only shall I suppose him to be ignorant of the very first principle, but I will take it for granted that he does not even know the mean ing of the various terms used by. Photographers, and will take the liberty of explaining. As it occurs, each word that is'used by them in a special sense. All trades and professions use words in a special way, these being generally known as trade or technical terms. Now, technical terms are usually not very appropriate, for as a rule they do not express exactly what is understood by the general meaning of the word, and such being the case, I feel I shall be pardoned if I assume the reader to be completely ignorant of the meaning of the various technical terms used in photog raphy. Download or read book Treatise on Photography Classic Reprint written by Charles Waldack and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Treatise on Photography N umerous changes have been made in this edition. Matters become obsolete have been suppressed, and improvements in the processes generally practiced have been described. We have not noticed; however, any of the new processes in printing, Which have lately made their appearance. The processes of carbon print ingvie consider not yet sufficiently practical to be of use to the professional photographer. We thought of being able to give a method superior to the ordinary printing process, and even, on this account, retarded the publication of this edition; but the process in question turned out to - have been greatly overrated. We refer here to the Wothlotype process, the appear ance of which created such an excitement in the pho tographic community. The results obtained by this process do not meet the anticipation of photographers. Prints made by it possess no advantage over those made in the ordinary way, neither ln quality, facility of manipulation, cost, nor permanency. Our aim being to bring forth a guide for practical photographers, we have thus omitted a description of it, and devoted our Space to objects of more direct value. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of Photography: Practical, Theoretic, and Applied The book OF photography has been prepared at the request of many readers of my smaller books on the subject who have expressed a wish for a comprehensive treatise, My own practice in Photography dates back to the time when the operator prepared each plate for his own use; first by a tedious process of cleaning the glass, next by dexterously flooding it with collodion, and finally by sensitising it in a bath of silver nitrate. My first photographs, some of which I still possess, were taken with apparatus wholly my own construction, which served its purpose quite satisfactorily for many years. Book Practical Guide to Photography Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Guide to Photography So thoroughly has photography, the art of drawing by light, entered into our every-day life that it is difficult for us in the present day to realise how recently it has come to be. So accustomed are we to have scenes and persons represented to us by its means, to become as familiar with the features of our statesmen and famous men and women of all classes as we are with those of our own near relations, and to depend upon the art as a means of truthfully recording almost all of our scientific observations, that it is difficult for us to conceive how our forefathers managed without it. Yet half a century ago the very rich only could possess portraits of their friends or relations, the features of our great men were unknown to the mass of the people, the architectural and other beauties of foreign states and towns were conveyed only by the fallible pencil of the draughtsman, records of scientific observations were for the most part the result of weary watching. A tale of threescore years ago is told of a certain Frenchman. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Principles and Practice of Photography Familiarly Explained

Download or read book The Principles and Practice of Photography Familiarly Explained written by Jabez Hughes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-17 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles and Practice of Photography Familiarly Explained: Being a Manual for Beginners, and Reference Book for Expert Photographers; Comprising the Collodion Process The word photography means drawing, engraving, or writing by Light. You are doubtless aware that white light - light from the sun, for instance - is composed of three different colours Yellow, Red, and Blue it also possesses three distinct properties - Illuminating, Heating, and Chemical powers. These three powers are singularly connected with the three colours.' The Illuminating property exists mainly in the Yellow Rays - the Heating property in the Red - and the Chemical in the Blue or Violet rays. With the Illuminating power you are daily familiar the July sun gives certain proof of its Heating power 5 and it is your present purpose to learn that all Photography is based on its Chemical power. For the full explanation of these facts I must refer you to Hunt's Researches on Light 3 in that excellent work is detailed in a most satisfactory manner the threefold function of a sunbeam - to illuminate, to heat, and to produce chemical change. That these three properties are distinct from each other is proved by their being separable from each other. Thus, black glass stops the illuminating and the chemical rays, but allows the heating rays to pass through 3 dark blue glass arrests the heating and illuminating rays, but allows the chemical ones to get through; while yellow or orange glass admits light and heat, but denies passage to the chemical rays. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Photographic Primer: A Manual of Practice The grooved or notched track-frame at the bottom, on which the front of the box travels, is usually hinged back of the center of its length, so that, when the ends are brought close together by the telescoping of the bel lows, the longest part of this frame or bed may be folded up against the front of the box, making the whole camera compact for carrying; the folding up has nothing to do with the operation of the camera. Roughly speaking, this is the whole of a camera box, except two other features of its construction, which will be noted further on.
