Book Offshore Technology in Civil Engineering

Download or read book Offshore Technology in Civil Engineering written by J. S. Templeton and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains nine classic papers from the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), which is the world's leading event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection. These papers provide innovation in, vision for, and lasting impact on design, construction or installation of offshore infrastructure, and have influence far beyond the offshore industry, some becoming integral to the design process of onshore structures such as buildings and bridges. The ASCE OTC Committee have chosen these classic documents to represent the outstanding papers from the early years of the OTC that withstand test of time. They contain engineering methods that have proven their value through widespread use, permeating codes, standards, guidelines and engineering software. Topics include: wave force evaluation; ultimate strength and reverse capacity; tubular joint material and design; pile foundations; and pipeline installation.

Book Ocean Structures

Download or read book Ocean Structures written by Srinivasan Chandrasekaran and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-01-06 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the concepts of material selection and analysis, choice of structural form, construction methods, environmental loads, health monitoring, non-destructive testing, and repair methodologies and rehabilitation of ocean structures. It examines various types of ocean and offshore structures, including drilling platforms, processing platforms and vessels, towers, sea walls and surge barriers, and more. It also explores the use of MEMS in offshore structures, with regard to military and oil exploration applications. Full-color figures as well as numerous solved problems and examples are included to help readers understand the applied concepts.

Book Offshore Structure Modeling

Download or read book Offshore Structure Modeling written by Subrata Kumar Chakrabarti and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-02-21 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the existing literature on offshore structures touch on model testing, a comprehensive text discussing the design, construction, instrumentation, testing and analysis of the physical model is lacking. This book fills that vacuum and provides, through its survey of the theoretical and practical aspects of physical modeling, an in-depth coverage of the technology of model testing. Its usefulness runs through the entire field of engineering, reaching far beyond its focus on offshore construction; and its breadth of scope should appeal not only to engineers and naval architects but to scientists interested in structural or hydraulic testing as well.

Book Marine Structures Engineering Specialized Applications

Download or read book Marine Structures Engineering Specialized Applications written by Gregory Tsinker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine Structures Engineering is designed to help engineers meet the growing worldwide demand for construction of new ports and the modernization of existing ports and terminals. It provides an authoritative guide to the design, construction, rehabilitation, repair, and maintenance of port and harbor structures. Each chapter is self-contained, allowing readers to access specific information. The Author draws on his extensive experience in offshore structure and port engineering to demonstrate evaluation, rehabilitation, repair, and maintenance of in-service marine structures. Also covered in detail are state-of-the-art approaches to: *marine structures in cold regions, with special attention to the role of ice loads, permafrost, and other ice effects *shiplifts, marine railways, shipways, and dry docks *offshore moorings *floating breakwaters *marinas *structures that protect bridge piers from ship impact. Offering practical information on all aspects of marine structures, this book serves as an indispensable resource to all engineers and professionals involved in design, construction, maintenance, and modernization of ports and harbors.

Book Recommendations for the design of concrete sea structures

Download or read book Recommendations for the design of concrete sea structures written by FIB – International Federation for Structural Concrete and published by FIB - International Federation for Structural Concrete. This book was released on 1973-10-01 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the FIP Symposiu m on Concrete Sea Structures, which was held on 28-29 September 1 972 in Tbilisi, Georgia, the participants unanimously agreed that c oncrete was bound to play a major if not the leading part in the rapidly developing field of offshore construction. It was also agreed that the discovery of oil and gas in the North Sea had produced an immediate and exciting challenge in the demand for the construction of fixed structures in marine environments which, in terms of hostile natura! forces, would far exceed anything tackled by engineers to date. It was therefore decided to set up an FIP Commission on Concrete Sea Structures under the chairmanship of Mr Fr,óde Hansen which would report to the FIP Seventh Congress in New York in May 1974 . It seemed natura! to divide the tasks of the Commission into three working groups: Design, Materials, and Construction Methods. It soon became apparent that the demands for structures subjected to deep and hostile waters were so great and so pressing that it was decided to accelerate the work of the Design and Materials Working Groups, and to produce the first edition of these Recommendations before the New York Congres s . The Chairmen for the two Working Groups were Mr Kurt Eriksson and Dr Odd Gjprv respectively. The publication of these Recommendations has been made possible by the li vely interest of these two groups and by the valuable assistance of Mr D. Palmer and Mr B. Spratt of the C ement and Concrete Association and Mr M. D. Hazen of Sir Robert McAlpine & Sons Ltd. The Recommendations have been published with the approval of the FIP Administrati ve Council. The work of the Construction Methods Working Group has not been included in this edition since practical construction experience in this most challenging field is still quite limited. The successful completion of the Ekofisk Storage Tank has added tremendously to obtaining practical experience, and this, with the fact that two larger concrete offshore platforms will soon be under c onstruction, offers the promise that future editions will be augmented by some very valuable practical construction experience.

Book The Offshore Imperative

Download or read book The Offshore Imperative written by Tyler Priest and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After World War II, the discovery and production of onshore oil in the United States faced decline. As a result, offshore prospects in the Gulf of Mexico took on new strategic value. Shell Oil Company pioneered many of the early moves offshore and continues to lead the way into -deepwater.- Tyler Priest's study is the first time the modern history of Shell Oil has been told in any detail. Drawing on interviews with Shell retirees and many other sources, Priest relates how the imagination, talent, and hard work of personnel at all levels shaped the evolution of the company. The narrative also covers important aspects of Shell Oil's corporate evolution, but the company's pioneering steps into the deepwater fields of the Gulf of Mexico are its signature achievement. Priest's study demonstrates that engineers did not suddenly create methods for finding and producing oil and gas from astounding water depths. Rather, they built on a half-century of accumulated knowledge and improvements to technical systems. Shell Oil's story is unique, but it also illuminates the modern history of the petroleum industry. As Priest demonstrates, this company's experiences offer a starting point for examining the understudied topics of strategic decision-making, scientific research, management of technology, and corporate organization and culture within modern oil companies, as well as how these activities applied to offshore development.
