Download or read book Quantitative Approaches to Medieval Swedish Law written by Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a novel framework for studying historical legalisation using quantitative methods, with 10 fully-preserved laws from medieval Sweden, written between c. 1225 and 1350, serving as a case study. By applying a systematic classification scheme to each legal provision, it is possible to investigate the major differences and similarities in structure and content between the 10 laws. This, in turn, allows for the re-assessment of many long-standing problems in Swedish and European medieval legal history that have been challenging to address with traditional methods based on text analyses. Over the course of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, major changes in the proportion of legal provisions devoted to different fields of law, and to prescribed consequences, are found. The book shows how the proportions of civil law and public law expanded at the expense of criminal law. Furthermore, a clear transition from casuistic to more abstract law provisions can also be witnessed.
Download or read book Asante Court Music and Verbal Arts in Ghana written by Kwasi Ampene and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-06-14 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asante Court Music and Verbal Arts in Ghana is a comprehensive portrait of Asante court musical arts. Weaving together historical narratives with analyses of texts performed on drums, ivory trumpets, and a cane flute, the book includes a critical assembly of ancient song texts, the poetry of bards (kwadwom), and referential poetry performed by members of the constabulary (apae). The focus is on the intersections between lived experience, music, and values, and refers to musical examples drawn from court ceremonies, rituals, festivals, as well as casual performances elicited in the course of fieldwork. For the Asante, the performing arts are complex sites for recording and storing personal experiences, and they have done so for centuries with remarkable consistency and self-consciousness. This book draws on archaeological, archival, historical, ethnographical and analytical sources to craft a view of the Asante experience as manifested in its musical and allied arts. Its goal is to privilege the voices of the Asante and how they express their history, religious philosophy, social values, economic, and political experiences through the musical and allied arts. The author’s theoretical formulation includes the concept of value, referring to ideas, worldview concepts, beliefs, and social relationships that inform musical practices and choices in Asante.

This book was released on 2021-05-10 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kob Antelope Woman and Other Human-Animal Folktales from the Mwaghavul of Nigeria is a collection of thirty-eight indigenous folktales from the Mwaghavul people, an indigenous community in the central zone of the present Plateau State of Nigeria. These folktales are well cherished by the Mwaghavul people. Folktales are rich and authentic sources of African values. Used deliberately to inculcate positive values in children, they are, therefore, didactic and morality-laden. These tales contain unique cultural knowledge. This book is written in a bilingual style and the translation is done with precision and clarity in order not to lose the flavour of its original form. The tales, though traditional, include contemporary real-life lessons and insights from a wide spectrum of experiences.

Download or read book Discretionary Managerial Behavior written by T.V.S. Ramamohan Rao and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discretionary Managerial Behavior presents a quantification of the managerial behavior within decentralized organizations. The volume provides practical insights into the internal functioning of the firm, the relationships between the managers at different organizational echelons, and the conditioning effects of the organizational controls and the market environment external to the firm. It forms a basic contribution to the theoretical modeling, methodological and estimation procedures, and empirical insights into the nature and operation of managerial discretion in decentralized organizations. Both theoretical and empirical literature of organizational economics have not come to grips with the decision making process in such organizations. With this in perspective the volume describes four fundamentally new contributions. It presents: an approach to defining proximate objectives of managers at the divisional levels in a decentralized organization and the coordination by managers at higher levels, an approach to developing a modelling framework from a sound theoretical perspective in order to reflect the postulated behavior, an approach to defining an estimation technique to operationalize both (a) and (b) in a specific empirical context, and the richness of empirical insights which remained elusive for over thirty years. As such this study is an important step to make fundamental progress in the area of interface between business policy and microeconomic theory.
