Book Living in Anticipation of the End Time

Download or read book Living in Anticipation of the End Time written by Edwin Zackrison and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not long ago, those who wrote about the “end-time” were preachers—the more fundamentalist, the more extreme by some standards. “The end is coming soon,” they said, and cartoons were rampant with guys carrying placards captioned by “The End is Near!” From the time of Christ, whose noncritical predictions included such inspiration for the placards, the religious prophets could not resist emphasis on such topics. Today things are different. The “scientists” and “politicians” make the predictions. “Twelve More Years” is what we hear from the latter. But they don’t attack with religious terms. They speak of time in the context of “climate change” and “global warming.” They do not agree on how to interpret the evidence, but the religionists also had trouble with agreement. Strange interpretations of biblical texts have now gone the way of so-called science. Various elucidations carry one thing in common: none gain consensus. Some arguments enter discussions by censuring those who disagree with them. Their opponents are not allowed to speak. They must remain silent. They are called nasty names, and unfair methods are used to punish them. They try to stop the incongruous from speaking at all. Living in the “end-time” demonstrates the conflict between good and evil.

Book Developing Firefighter Resiliency

Download or read book Developing Firefighter Resiliency written by Bob Carpenter and published by Fire Engineering Books. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three Key Messages: -- This is important. -- You can do it. -- I won't give up on you. Training ordinary people to do extraordinary things requires an understanding of how we learn. Developing Firefighter Resiliency starts with the basic psychophysical aspects of learning. The fire service has unwittingly used a failure-based training model for many years. Hands-on training exercises are often based on unachievable objectives. Trainers are often not educated about the psychology of adult learning or the effect of stress during learning. Consequently, participants face learning activities with mastery-level skill requirement to succeed when competency has yet to be established. This amounts to a never-ending diet of tests without actual skill development. Accessing knowledge under extreme circumstances cannot be left to chance, because the penalty for failure is severe. This book provides the roadmap for a journey to train, establish relevancy for the lessons, develop competency in the skills, and capitalize on confidence to achieve mastery. We study the impact of a stressful environment on the ability to learn and function.
