Download or read book Firearm Safety Certificate Manual for California Firearms Dealers and DOJ Certified Instructors written by California Department of Justice and published by . This book was released on 2016-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growing concern over the number of accidental firearm shootings, especially those involving children, prompted passage of the initial handgun safety law which went into effect in 1994. The stated intent of the California Legislature in enacting the current FSC law is for persons who obtain firearms to have a basic familiarity with those firearms, including, but not limited to, the safe handling and storage of those firearms. The statutory authority for this program is contained in Penal Code sections 26840 and 31610 through 31700. These statutes mandate DOJ to develop, implement and maintain the FSC Program. Pursuant to Penal Code section 26840, a firearms dealer cannot deliver a firearm unless the person receiving the firearm presents a valid FSC, which is obtained by passing a written test on firearm safety. Prior to taking delivery of a firearm from a licensed firearms dealer, the purchaser/recipient must also successfully perform a safe handling demonstration with that firearm..

Book excerpt: This fascinating visual account of firearms shows everything from the earliest cannons to modern weapons of war. It also highlights how gun technology and military tactics developed in tandem over time. Centuries ago, the Chinese discovered that if they put gunpowder and a projectile into a metal tube and ignited it, they could fire the projectile with enormous force. The first guns were born. Firearms: An Illustrated History showcases over 300 firearms including pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, machine-guns, and artillery, each with annotated close-up photographs and details of their origins, barrel, and caliber. It details the use of the firearms, not just in the military but for sport, hunting, and law enforcement. This comprehensive volume traces the history of firearms, highlighting "turning points" such as the rifle with its parallel spiraled groves that could impart a spin to bullets making them fly straighter. It also showcases iconic firearms such as the Walther PPK self-loading pistol popularised in James Bond films. With information on the great gunsmiths including Beretta and Kalashnikov and a detailed guide to how guns work, Firearms: An Illustrated History is an essential purchase for everyone interested in guns and military history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pediatric firearm injuries are a significant public and medical community issue. Clinicians are on the front line caring for children, adolescents, and their families after a firearm injury or death. They also represent the best hopes for preventing firearm injuries to children and adolescents in the future. In circumstances of injury and violence they provide medical, mental health, and rehabilitative care. They also provide anticipatory guidance to prevent firearm injuries and deaths and should have a strong voice in the local, state and national discussions about firearm policies for injury prevention. This book provides an overview of the epidemiology and risk factors for firearm injuries in children and adolescents. It will serve as a practical clinical guide for firearm injury prevention at the individual, state and national levels. The beginning of the book focuses on the epidemiology of firearm injuries, primarily centered in the United States, but also including an international perspective. It addresses the role of firearms in suicide, homicide, and domestic violence, and examines mass shootings as well. The second half of the book focuses on preventive measures for firearm injuries including primary care and hospital-based interventions, community interventions, and state and federal legislation. It concludes with a background on the history of firearm research in the United States and future directions for decreasing firearm injuries. The book’s overall focus is on public policy and the role of clinicians and public health advocates, while simultaneously offering practical tools and information about the clinician’s role in intervention. Written by experts in the field, Pediatric Firearm Injuries and Fatalities is an ideal resource for pediatric, adolescent medicine, emergency medicine, primary care and family medicine clinicians. At the same time, it appeals to all clinicians and public health advocates wishing to develop a better understanding of pediatric firearm injuries and a path forward to decreasing them.

Book Firearm Anatomy Book II The STEN Submachine Gun

Download or read book Firearm Anatomy Book II The STEN Submachine Gun written by David Findlay and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-10-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written to interest the reader in gun design. The gun industry needs and is due for the next big breakthrough. Every 100 years seems to bring the next big development in firearms technology. In the 1600's the wheel lock was developed and heralded the first use of firearms. In the 1700's came the flintlock musket. In the 1800's came the percussion cap and later in the century the thin brass shell to carry the powder, ball ammunition, and primer was perfected. While the 20th century has seen the invention of liquid propellant, caseless ammunition, and the gyrojet, the thin brass shell has been hard to beat and is still the dominant way to feed ammunition to the firearms of today. We are due for the next big advance, but from where will it come? This book was written to interest the reader on the simplicity and the hidden complexity that good gun designs exhibit and prompt the imagination of the reader to investigate the field of firearms design further. Reading this book will give the reader:* Two ways to calculate the round per minute level of a 9mm caliber submachine gun using the STEN submachine gun as an example and gives sample excel spreadsheets to allow the reader to experiment with different design conditions.* The full technical data package of a reverse engineered STEN Submachine gun. The drawings are shown as individual operation process sheets showing the dimensions for each separate cut on an individual drawing.* The cycle of operations of the STEN with illustrations.* The analysis and sample calculations to design a gun barrel.* A discussion of firearm metallurgy with recommendations on material selection and heat treatment for various components. This book is unique as it is not a picture book of firearms, a combat guide on how to use them, nor discusses their maintenance or care. It does expose the engineering that can go behind a gun design project. This book not only gives the reader the drawings for a gun but also explains the engineering and dynamics behind it.
