Download or read book Rational Algebraic Curves written by J. Rafael Sendra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-10 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central problem considered in this introduction for graduate students is the determination of rational parametrizability of an algebraic curve and, in the positive case, the computation of a good rational parametrization. This amounts to determining the genus of a curve: its complete singularity structure, computing regular points of the curve in small coordinate fields, and constructing linear systems of curves with prescribed intersection multiplicities. The book discusses various optimality criteria for rational parametrizations of algebraic curves.
Download or read book Modeling in Computer Graphics written by Bianca Falcidieno and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the history of technology, many fields have passed from an initial stage of empirical recipes to a mature stage where work is based on formal theories and procedures. This transition is made possible through a process called "modeling". Also Computer Graphics as a separate field of Computer Science makes extensive use of formal theories and procedures of modeling, often derived from related disciplines such as mathematics and physics. Modeling makes different application results consistent, unifying varieties of techniques and formal approaches into a smaller number of models by generalizing and abstracting the knowledge in Computer Graphics. This volume presents a selection of research papers submitted to the conference "Modeling in Computer Graphics: Methods and Applications" held at the Research Area of the National Research Council in Genoa, Italy, on June 28 -July 1, 1993. This meeting was the ideal continuation of a previous conference organized in Tokyo, Japan, in April 1991. The success and the variety of research themes discussed at that meeting suggested to promote a new working conference on methods and applications of modeling to be held in Italy two years later.

Download or read book Curves and Surfaces written by Pierre-Jean Laurent and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curves and Surfaces provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of approximation theory with emphasis on approximation of images, surface compression, wavelets, and tomography. This book covers a variety of topics, including error estimates for multiquadratic interpolation, spline manifolds, and vector spline approximation. Organized into 77 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the method, based on a local Taylor expansion of the final curve, for computing the parameter values. This text then presents a vector approximation based on general spline function theory. Other chapters consider a nonparametric technique for estimating under random censorship the amplitude of a change point in change point hazard models. This book discusses as well the algorithm for ray tracing rational parametric surfaces based on inversion and implicitization. The final chapter deals with the results concerning the norm of the interpolation operator and error estimates for a square domain. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians.
Download or read book Geometric Methods and Applications written by Jean Gallier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an introduction to fundamental geometric concepts and tools needed for solving problems of a geometric nature using a computer, this book fills the gap between standard geometry books, which are primarily theoretical, and applied books on computer graphics, computer vision, or robotics that do not cover the underlying geometric concepts in detail. Gallier offers an introduction to affine, projective, computational, and Euclidean geometry, basics of differential geometry and Lie groups, and explores many of the practical applications of geometry. Some of these include computer vision, efficient communication, error correcting codes, cryptography, motion interpolation, and robot kinematics. This comprehensive text covers most of the geometric background needed for conducting research in computer graphics, geometric modeling, computer vision, and robotics and as such will be of interest to a wide audience including computer scientists, mathematicians, and engineers.

Download or read book Lectures on the Calculus of Variations and Optimal Control Theory written by Laurence Chisholm Young and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is divided into two parts. The first addresses the simpler variational problems in parametric and nonparametric form. The second covers extensions to optimal control theory. The author opens with the study of three classical problems whose solutions led to the theory of calculus of variations. They are the problem of geodesics, the brachistochrone, and the minimal surface of revolution. He gives a detailed discussion of the Hamilton-Jacobi theory, both in the parametric and nonparametric forms. This leads to the development of sufficiency theories describing properties of minimizing extremal arcs. Next, the author addresses existence theorems. He first develops Hilbert's basic existence theorem for parametric problems and studies some of its consequences. Finally, he develops the theory of generalized curves and "automatic" existence theorems. In the second part of the book, the author discusses optimal control problems. He notes that originally these problems were formulated as problems of Lagrange and Mayer in terms of differential constraints. In the control formulation, these constraints are expressed in a more convenient form in terms of control functions. After pointing out the new phenomenon that may arise, namely, the lack of controllability, the author develops the maximum principle and illustrates this principle by standard examples that show the switching phenomena that may occur. He extends the theory of geodesic coverings to optimal control problems. Finally, he extends the problem to generalized optimal control problems and obtains the corresponding existence theorems.
