Book Ceramic Fibers and Coatings

Download or read book Ceramic Fibers and Coatings written by Committee on Advanced Fibers for High-Temperature Ceramic Composites and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1998-05-05 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-temperature ceramic fibers are the key components of ceramic matrix composites (CMCs). Ceramic fiber properties (strength, temperature and creep resistance, for example)-along with the debonding characteristics of their coatings-determine the properties of CMCs. This report outlines the state of the art in high-temperature ceramic fibers and coatings, assesses fibers and coatings in terms of future needs, and recommends promising avenues of research. CMCs are also discussed in this report to provide a context for discussing high-temperature ceramic fibers and coatings.

Book Ceramic Fibers and Their Applications

Download or read book Ceramic Fibers and Their Applications written by Toshihiro Ishikawa and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-10-31 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To date, many types of polymer-derived ceramic fibers have been developed all over the world. Of these, SiC fibers synthesized from polycarbosilane and its derivatives have achieved the highest heat-resistance along with their excellent mechanical properties. Using these type of SiC fibers for the ceramic matrix composite materials, both high-temperature strength and light weight have been achieved. Therefore, these fibers have attracted a great deal of attention in the field of next-generation aerospace engine, nuclear applications, and so on. Furthermore, several types of functional ceramic fibers with surface gradient structures have been developed using derivatives of polycarbosilane. This book summarizes the historical viewpoint of polymer-derived ceramic fibers, basic information (production process, fine structures, physical properties, and so forth) about them, and their applications. It also presents prospects of future inorganic fibers.

Book SUPER STRENGTH MATERIAL CERAMIC FIBER

Download or read book SUPER STRENGTH MATERIAL CERAMIC FIBER written by Ting Kou and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ceramic fibers are characterized by hardness and strength due to low structural defects and surface cleavage. Ceramic fiber whiskers surpass steel whiskers in density, strenth, and heat-resistance. Ceramic fiber whiskers can be adhered and protected by adhesives for use in place of steel as structural material for high temperature duties. Fine ceramic fiber whiskers under two microns in diameter are available. Strength of some ceramic fiber whiskers has approached theoretical values. Some ceramic fibers have been applied to the spacecraft industry. Problem areas in ceramic fiber production are the high cost, and the difficulties in application and processing. (Author).

Wallenberger This book serves as an introduction to advanced inorganic fibers and aims to support fundamental research, assist applied scientists and designers in industry, and facilitate materials science instruction in universities and colleges. Its three main sections deal with fibers which are derived from the vapor phase such as single crystal silicon whiskers or carbon nanotubes, from the liquid phase such as advanced glass and single crystal oxide fibers, and from solid precursor fibers such as carbon and ceramic fibers. Contents FIBERS FROM THE VAPOR, LIQUID AND SOLID PHASE 1.1 The most important phase isthe liquid phase 1.2 Afiber by any name isstill afiber 1.3 Biographic sketches ofthe authors 1.4 Acknowledgments CHAPTER 1 FIBERS FROM THE VAPOR, LIQUID AND SOLID PHASE F. T. Wallenberger The book describes advanced inorganic fibers, focuses on principles and concepts, analyzes experimental and commercial processes, and relates process variables to structures, structures tofiber properties and fiber properties to end-use performance. In principle, there are discontinuous or inherently short, and continuous or potentially endless, fibers. Short fibers range from asbestos fibers, which were described as early as 300 BC to carbon nanotubes which were discovered in 1991 [1] and have been fully described in 1999 [2].

Book Handbook of Tensile Properties of Textile and Technical Fibres

Download or read book Handbook of Tensile Properties of Textile and Technical Fibres written by A. R. Bunsell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-10-19 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fibres usually experience tensile loads whether they are used for apparel or technical structures. Their form, which is long and fine, makes them some of the strongest materials available as well as very flexible. This book provides a concise and authoritative overview of tensile behaviour of a wide range of both natural and synthetic fibres used both in textiles and high performance materials. After preliminary chapters that introduce the reader to tensile properties, failure and testing of fibres, the book is split into two parts. Part one examines tensile properties and failure of natural fibres, such as cotton, hemp, wool and silk. Part two discusses the tensile properties and failure of synthetic fibres ranging from polyamide, polyester and polyethylene fibres to carbon fibres. Many chapters also provide a general background to the fibre, including the manufacture, microstructure, factors that affect tensile properties as well as methods to improve tensile failure. With its distinguished editor and array of international contributors, Handbook of tensile properties of textile and technical fibres is an important reference for fibre scientists, textile technologists and engineers, as well as those in academia. Provides an overview of tensile behaviour of a wide range of both natural and synthetic fibres Examines tensile characterisitics, tensile failure of textiles fibres and factors that affect tensile properties Discusses mircostructures and each type of fibre from manufacture to finished product

Book Fiber Fracture

Download or read book Fiber Fracture written by M. Elices and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2002-11-15 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this book came out of the EURESCO Conference on High Performance Fibers: Euroconference on Fiber Fracture in 2000. Many of the books that are currently available look at different aspects of fiber processing, properties, or applications, but none are focussed on the fracture behaviour of fibers. This book presents the mechancisms and models of fiber fracture currently available for both natural and synthetic fibers, and it is expected that increasingly there will be cross fertilization between the fields, opening new frontiers in academic research and more competitive products for industry. It covers the following areas of fiber fracture: ceramic fibers; glass fibers; carbon filters; metallic fibers and thin wires; polymeric fibers; and carbon nanotubes.
