Book Financial Pressure and Balance Sheet Adjustment by UK Firms

Download or read book Financial Pressure and Balance Sheet Adjustment by UK Firms written by Andrew Benito and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines the financial policies and balance sheet adjustment of companies. Using a large panel of quoted UK firms, we estimate models for dividends, new equity issuance and investment, relating them to debt adjustment. The results suggest that while dividends are sticky in the short run, they are an important means of balance sheet adjustment in the long run. Other evidence supports the idea that companies actively target their balance sheet by variation in dividends, new equity issues and investment.

Their use has fundamentally changed the modeling of financial systems, financial risk management in the public and private sector, and the policies designed to prevent and mitigate financial crises. When financial crises hit, stress tests take center stage. Despite their centrality to public policy, the optimal design and use of stress tests remains highly contested. Written by an international team of leading thinkers from academia, the public sector, and the private sector, this handbook comprehensively surveys and evaluates the state of play and charts the innovations that will determine the path ahead. It is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary resource that bridges theory and practice and places financial stress testing in its wider context. This book was released on 2013-12-13 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Financial Times Guide to Using and Interpreting Company Accounts is designed for the non-accountant manager, investor or entrepreneur who is expected to have financial knowledge but may not have accounting training. Wendy McKenzie approaches the project via three key points: What information will I find in these accounts?; How do I analyse the accounts?; How can I use my analysis? Using publicly available actual accounts, the book begins by covering the ‘numbers’ from company accounts then moves on to information such as the financial review and then explains the logic of the accounts. To help with the interpreting of the numbers Wendy shows the reader how to understand issues such as cash flow, what this will tell you about a company, how to consider a competitor’s accounts and how to perform ratio calculations to help with company analysis.

Book The Foundations and Future of Financial Regulation

Download or read book The Foundations and Future of Financial Regulation written by Mads Andenas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-20 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financial regulation has entered into a new era, as many foundational economic theories and policies supporting the existing infrastructure have been and are being questioned following the financial crisis. Goodhart et al’s seminal monograph "Financial Regulation: Why, How and Where Now?" (Routledge:1998) took stock of the extent of financial innovation and the maturity of the financial services industry at that time, and mapped out a new regulatory roadmap. This book offers a timely exploration of the "Why, How and Where Now" of financial regulation in the aftermath of the crisis in order to map out the future trajectory of financial regulation in an age where financial stability is being emphasised as a key regulatory objective. The book is split into four sections: the objectives and regulatory landscape of financial regulation; the regulatory regime for investor protection; the regulatory regime for financial institutional safety and soundness; and macro-prudential regulation. The discussion ranges from theoretical and policy perspectives to comprehensive and critical consideration of financial regulation in the specifics. The focus of the book is on the substantive regulation of the UK and the EU, as critical examination is made of the unravelling and the future of financial regulation with comparative insights offered where relevant especially from the US. Running throughout the book is consideration of the relationship between financial regulation, financial stability and the responsibility of various actors in governance. This book offers an important contribution to continuing reflections on the role of financial regulation, market discipline and corporate responsibility in the financial sector, and upon the roles of regulatory authorities, markets and firms in ensuring the financial health and security of all in the future.
