Book Industry and Politics in West Germany

Download or read book Industry and Politics in West Germany written by Peter J. Katzenstein and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic technological developments in industrial production, the rise of new social movements in national politics, and great changes in the international political economy have left a deep imprint on the Federal Republic. A compelling explanation of West Germany's success in maintaining economic prosperity and political stability under such challenging conditions has continued to elude observers. Under the editorship of Peter J. Katzenstein, thirteen distinguished scholars from both sides of the Atlantic here provide an original interpretation of the political economy of the Bonn Republic during the forty years since its founding, and explore in particular its extraordinary capacity for accommodating change. Whereas studies in political economy have typically focused on one level of political action—either the shop floor, or national politics, or the international system—this innovative account analyzes the interaction of change at all three levels, bringing together case studies drawn from six manufacturing and service sectors.

Book Applying Risk Sharing Finance for Economic Development

Download or read book Applying Risk Sharing Finance for Economic Development written by Putri Swastika and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-13 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the application of risk-sharing finance as a national economic policy in history and how it stimulated economic recovery during a short period in Germany between 1933 and 1935. Economic history indicates that risk-sharing instruments have promoted socio-economic development in many parts of the world while risk-shifting methods have imposed huge socio-economic costs on many nations, leading to debt slavery on individual members. This book highlights lessons to be learned from history and argues that risk-sharing is a powerful tool for generating rapid economic recovery and resumption of growth.

Book Banking in Transition

Download or read book Banking in Transition written by G. Robins and published by Springer. This book was released on 2000-02-17 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book asks whether transplanting banks can solve the problems involved in creating a well-functioning market economy from outside, looking especially at the virtually complete takeover of East German banks by their Western counterparts after unification. Drawing on a wide range of English and German sources, and fieldwork interviews across Germany, it argues that there are no quick fix solutions to transition to a market. Implications are discussed for East Germany and for other previously centrally planned economies, and the global implications of foreign ownership in banking are considered.

Book Finance Capitalism and Germany s Rise to Industrial Power

Download or read book Finance Capitalism and Germany s Rise to Industrial Power written by Caroline Fohlin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-01-29 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a wide array of data collected by the author, this book uses clear theoretically motivated economic analysis to explain the structure, performance, and influence of universal banks and securities markets on firms during industrialisation. The German universal banks played a significant but not overwhelming role in the ownership and control of corporate firms. Banks gained access to boards via a confluence of their underwriting and brokerage activities, the legal phenomena of bearer shares and deposited voting rights, and the flourishing securities markets of the turn of the twentieth century. In general, bank relationships had little impact on firm performance; stock market listings, or ownership structure, were more important. The findings show that securities markets can thrive within a civil-law, universal-bank system and suggest that financial system complexity can favour rapid industrial expansion.
