Book excerpt: This environmental assessment (EA) describes the potential environmental consequences for the demolition of five facilities on Langley AFB, to include the LOX storage facility, LOX maintenance facility, small gas engine repair shop, greenhouse, and the security police operations building. Seven resource categories received a thorough evaluation to identify potential impacts. An increase to safety risks during demolition would be mitigated by employing standard safety procedures. Any noise associated with work at these sites would be temporary and localized. These actions would have the potential to disturb portions of various ERP sites; a waiver from ACC would be necessary, which would identify appropriate control measures. Some of the sites are located near archeological resources. In the event of an unexpected discovery, work would halt the and proper coordination procedures would be completed. These actions would be consistent with the Langley General Plan, and any transportation impacts resulting from increased traffic would be minor and temporary. Air Quality and Physical Resources would not be significantly affected by this action. No long term environmental consequences are anticipated.

Air Quality would not be significantly affected and any asbestos material would be removed prior to demolition. The action would have the potential to disturb ERP sites; a waiver from ACC would be necessary, which would identify appropriate control measures. Parking placed at the demo site would be consistent with the Base General Plan, and any transportation impacts would be minor. Cultural Resources would be adversely impacted; consultation with the SHPO has been completed and specifies the mitigation necessary for this action, to include documentation of the resource and other efforts. This action would have no significant effects on Physical Resources.

The placement of the communications facility at the proposed site would be consistent with the base General Plan, and the action is expected to improve the roads and transportation use in the area in the long-term. The action will lead to a temporary improvement in socioeconomics due to job creation, and this action and other related work would improve the aesthetic quality of the area. No long term environmental consequences are anticipated.

Book excerpt: Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended, Council on Environmental Quality NEPA implementing regulations (40 Code of Federal Regulations CFR parts 1500-1508), and Air Force NEPA implementing regulations (32 CFR 989), the USAF conducted an assessment of the potential consequences of implementing Proposed Construction II construction and demolition projects that are described below in the proposed action. The USAF proposes the Proposed Construction II projects at Buckley AFB. Within the Proposed Construction II projects, seven new construction and eight demolition projects encompassing approximately 32.41 and 0.96 acres of land, respectively, at various locations within the AFB boundaries. The Proposed Construction II projects would include construction of various buildings and facilities, including a new leadership development center, child development center, athletic fields, new munitions and haaardous materials gate, new visitors center, chapel and clinic. Demolition projects would include destruction of Buildings 19, 40, 41, 902, 1620, 1632, 1631 and area concrete foundations in the old Marine compound.
