Book Figueras Polo Stables

Download or read book Figueras Polo Stables written by Byron Hawes and published by Masterpiece. This book was released on 2018 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some architectural endeavours require more than designed beauty. Their purpose, in and of itself, requires repose, serenity, poetry. Estudio Ramos' Figueras Stables is just such a place; a respite from the everyday possessed of a deepseated relationship with its environment and an intuitive sense of purpose. 3850sq/m of stables are articulated in a long, volumetric space of mixed-use. Social spaces abut grooming and training facilities, sloped land ramps to a roof planted with wild grass, sheathing the building within its surroundings. Water, that universal symbol of life, purity, and harmony, is used to connect and articulate spaces. Much more than an aesthetic masterwork, Figueras Stable is a structure quietly and elegantly assisting a calling. One that Cormac McCarthy called 'seeing into a creature's soul and soothing the wounds found there. Secrets uttered softly into troubled ears'.

Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Kareem thought he and his siblings would always be stuck in “The Bottom”, a community and neighborhood devastated by poverty and violence. Riding their bicycles through Philly’s Fairmount Park, Kareem’s brothers discover a barn full of horses. Noticing the brothers’ fascination with her misfit animals, Lezlie Hiner, founder of The Work to Ride stables, offers them their escape: an after school job in exchange for riding lessons. What starts as an accidental discovery turns into a love for horseback riding that leads the Rossers to discovering their passion for polo. Pursuing the sport with determination and discipline, Kareem earns his place among the typically exclusive players in college, becoming part of the first all-Black national interscholastic polo championship team—all while struggling to keep his family together. Book Miner Road Residence

Download or read book Miner Road Residence written by Greg Faulkner and published by Masterpiece. This book was released on 2020 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dense observation of the landscape, climate, culture, and existing uses and patterns of the site were worked out in conversation with the client's mission to mitigate environmental challenges; Faulkner Archi- tects brings together site and home both phenomenologically in the design and technologically through sustainable features and practices. Technically a remodel, the house utilized the footprint of the existing house as a basis for a new floor plan. An existing fireplace was wrapped in concrete to serve as a major structural element anchor- ing the new architecture. This avoided additional grading and left the hillside open and natural. It also placed the new home directly under the shade of the old oaks, in intimate relationship with the trees surrounding it. This award-winning home is located on an eight acre, ex-urban property at the base of the Oakland Hills near San Francisco Bay. Formed of concrete and wrapped with Corten steel panels, the net zero energy res- idence is an elegant, low maintenance re- sponse to its context which is draped in rich green foliage and majestic native oak trees. - A comprehensive examination of the home, including exterior and interior photography, sketches, plans, and process imagery - First ever book published exclusively on the work of Faulkner Architects - Commentary by the architect provides insights into the design and decision-making process - A sustainable, zero-net energy home designed in sympathy with its surrounding - Text contributions by Rick Joy, Renee Chow and Thomas Chastain

Book excerpt: From roof to table – urban food has reached new heights. Soaring prices and concerns about chemical-laden fruits and vegetables increasingly drive us to grow our own healthy food close to home. In cities, however, vanishing ground space and contaminated soils spur farmers, activists, and restaurateurs to look to the skyline for a solution. The hunger for local food has reached new heights, and rooftops can provide the space that cities need to bring fresh, organic produce to tables across North America. The first full-length book to focus entirely on rooftop agriculture, Eat Up views this growing movement through a practitioner's lens, explaining: Structural, access, and infrastructural considerations Zoning and building codes Proven growing techniques Business and marketing strategies This graphically rich guide provides inspiration and advice to aspiring growers through photographs of successful rooftop farms and gardens and interviews with industry professionals. Easy-to-use checklists and a decision tree are included to help gauge the viability of each unique rooftop opportunity. Book The Burning Bush Synagogue

Download or read book The Burning Bush Synagogue written by and published by Masterpiece. This book was released on 2021-04-07 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept in the back of the monumental structure located at the IDF officers school is based on receipt of the Torah by Moses on Mount Sinai. Moses received his appointment at the location of the burning bush. At the ceremony revealing their officer rank on the parade ground, the cadets receive and agree to lead their soldiers with the burning bush in the background, connecting them with the Godly appointment. The biblical verse "and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed" symbolizes the appointment and constitutes the source of inspiration for the structure design which through flames of concrete encompass the officer in the fire of appointment during prayer. The prayer hall is built of 24 concrete flames installed on a concrete skeleton with steel screws and poles created in an industrial and controlled process, millimeter precise. Each flame is connected by two steel poles at the top and 2 anchor points at the bottom locked in place by screws. Each group of three flames was stabilized by a horizontal iron pole. The walls of the hall were stabilized in the same way. "And the middle bar in the midst of the boards shall reach from end to end..." The Book of Exodus chapter 26 verse 28. The whole compound is interwoven with a forest of olive trees as the sword is interwoven in the officer pin, the olive branch now entwining the flame of appointment.

Book Artron Art Center

Download or read book Artron Art Center written by and published by Masterpiece. This book was released on 2021-06-30 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artron is the foremost printing enterprise in China. As the core project of Artron's printing culture industry, the Artron art website is actively setting up to create archives for artists. Moreover, since the site is at the periphery of the city, the art center will need to be conceived with a one-stop multi-service printing facility and cultural center. The site of Shenzhen's Artron Art Center is located on the city edge, surrounded by three highways. In order to keep away from the noisy and chaotic environment, the building is idealized to be a landmark to define this area. Since the main view of this building will come from the three adjacent highways, the building shape should be continuous and integrated with the large-scale urban infrastructure to form a dialogue between the two. Taking into account the volume as a whole, the architects must think about how to digest this huge volume. On the one hand, on the premise of integrity and continuity, the gaps between the different parts of the volumes were created to bring people the comfortable visual impression when walking in this territory.

Download or read book Guant namo and American Empire written by Don E. Walicek and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the humanities as an insightful platform for understanding and responding to the military prison at Guantánamo Bay, other manifestations of “Guantánamo,” and the contested place of freedom in American Empire. It presents the work of scholars and writers based in Cuba’s Guantánamo Province and various parts of the US. Its essays, short stories, poetry, and other texts engage the far-reaching meaning and significance of Gitmo by bringing together what happens on the U.S. side of the fence—or “la cerca,” as it is called in Cuba—with perspectives from the outside world. Chapters include critiques of artistic renderings of the Guantánamo region; historical narratives contemplating the significance of freedom; analyses of the ways the base and region inform the Cuban imaginary; and fiction and poetry published for the first time in English. Not simply a critique of imperialism, this volume presents politically engaged commentary that suggests a way forward for a site of global contact and conflict.
