Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fighting America's Fight Statements and documents were produced to prove that the War Lords schemed to over ride the opposition of Belgium, England and France, roll their armies into the sea, and reach across the intervening ocean to soil our fair shores with their bloody Hun hands. With this in mind, as we look back upon the war, it assumes new character. From this new point of View, it was a fight in defense of America. For the safety of our homes. For the honor of our women and the lives of our children. For the ideals of Freedom and Right that America typifies. Book Why America Fights Germany Cantonment Edition Classic Reprint

Download or read book Why America Fights Germany Cantonment Edition Classic Reprint written by John Strong Perry Tatlock and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Why America Fights Germany (Cantonment: Edition) America is a peaceable nation. We believe in the principle of live and let live. We respect other nations' rights, wish them prosperity, and envy them nothing. We have vast territory and undeveloped resources, enough to occupy our minds and hands for generations without meddling with other people's concerns. We believe that the peace and happiness of mankind will be promoted by self government for all, by allowing the population of each civilized country to govern itself. Through almost our whole history we have stood for democracy and peace. We have protected China from robbery and war on the part of more greedy nations, and have stood the strongest friend of the new Chinese republic. In 1896 we stood the friend of Venezuela in her controversy with Great Britain, and prevented war. For years we have even allowed our own citizens to be wronged in Mexico rather than make war on our neighbor republic. Consequently, we are now trusted as the big brother of all the republics in the New World. When we departed from our peaceful policy in 1898, and made war on Spain, it was in order to stop intolerable oppression at our very door, in Cuba. We then gave and have guarded the independence of Cuba, and only took the Philippine Islands in order to save them from falling to Some less disinterested nation, and in order to educate their people for independence later. Thus we have always worked for peace, and for the justice to all which is the only sure way to maintain peace. Book Shellproof Mack an American Fighting Story Classic Reprint

Download or read book Shellproof Mack an American Fighting Story Classic Reprint written by Arthur Mack and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-02 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Shellproof Mack an American Fighting Story The things that are set down here are written from the standpoint of the plain private soldier, one who went as a volunteer, it is true, but who hated the whole vile business of war as any private soldier must, and who was glad when his work was done. If this book has any value it is because it is a true telling of the things that are, over there, and because it is without what the British Tommy calls camouflage. This book lacks, no doubt, everything that would be put into such a story by a professional writer, the brilliancy of expression and the vividness of narrative; but if it is without those things it is because it is the tale of a soldier and not of a war correspondent. Book Northwestern Fights and Fighters Classic Reprint

Download or read book Northwestern Fights and Fighters Classic Reprint written by Cyrus Townsend Brady and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Northwestern Fights and Fighters T will be noticed that this book differs from others of the american fights and fighters series, and especially its immediate predecessor, Indian Fights and Fighters, in that I am not the author of all or most of it. In response to a request for contributions from participants in the Modoc and Nez Perc wars, numerous papers were sub mitred, all of such high value, not only from an historic but from a literary point of View as well, that I had not the presumption to rewrite them myself not even the proverbial assurance of the historian would warrant that. Therefore, I have contented myself with writing a general and comprehensive account of each of the two wars considered, leaving to the actors themselves the telling in full of the detailed story of the splendid achieve ments in which they were making history. I can affirm, therefore, that never before has there been included in a single volume such a remarkable and interesting col lection of personal experiences in our Indian Wars as in this book. And as I admire the doers of the deeds so, also, do I admire the tellers of the tales. Their modesty, their restraint, their habit of relating adventures which stir the blood and thrill the soul as a mere matter of course. Book America and Her Army Classic Reprint

Download or read book America and Her Army Classic Reprint written by Robert Mackenzie and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from America and Her Army American Government supplies the usual food and clothing to the army, and has done it, upon the whole, regularly and copiously. But the agents of the American people are every where present with ample stores of everything which men require, to place it beyond all doubt that the American soldier shall suffer no discomfort which it is possible to avert. There is a perfect fitness in this arrangement. For of this war it may be said, without qualification or reserve, that it is the war or the people. N 0 Government made it. It was from the outset the fixed determination of the Northern people that the nation should not submit to dismemberment. This is their own war, fought by their own sons and brothers, for the accomplishment of purposes which are dearer to them than life. It is fitting that they should assume the care of an army which is so emphatically their own. We do not understand aright the spirit in which the American people are fighting out this mighty quarrel till we know what care they bestow upon their soldiers. Book Boys Book of Frontier Fighters Classic Reprint

Download or read book Boys Book of Frontier Fighters Classic Reprint written by Edwin L. Sabin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-23 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Boys' Book of Frontier Fighters These are stories Of bravery and Of pluck amidst great Odds. In many of the stories victory was won by the aid of powder, ball and steel, used manfully. In others it was won by sheer nerve and wit alone - for a good fighter fights with his heart and head as fully as with his hands. Americans have always been great fighters, when called upon to fight in self-defense. They never quit until they are killed or triumphant; and although many may be killed, those they leave press forward again. In France the Americans never gave up an inch. We Americans of to-day, looking back, may be proud not only of the part played by our blood in the World War, but likewise Of the part it played in the days when, rifle in hand, we were hewing the peace trail in our own country. Book The Fighting South Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Fighting South Classic Reprint written by John Temple Graves and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fighting South Week after week in the period from September, 1939, to December, 1941, the South was the first on the Gallup poll's regional list in friendliness for the British cause and in disregard of consequences. There was Senator Rey molds, of course, but the North Carolinian was a spc' cialty, not a rule. The expression of the South which the polls reflected was found in the attitudes of Carter Glass, of Virginia, and Claude Pepper, of Florida, two gentle men whose disagreement ou the New Deal advertised the more their harmony against Hitler and their willing ness to accept not only a shooting war but a declared one. When anything hit the South hard enough in those days to make New Dealers and anti-new Dealers forget each other, that was hard hitting. And the war in Europe did that to a lot of Southerners. Not to all of them. There were New Dealers in the South, as else where, who believed that the defense effort created both an opportunity and a need for pushing the New Deal further on all fronts. There were anti-new Dealers in high estate whose hate of Hitler was only a secondary affair with them; they were sure that Mr. Roosevelt had already killed American democracy and was about to kill the capitalist system in America, and they wondered what all the shooting was about. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Border Fights and Fighters The salient incidents of these three hundred years, from the Conquistador to the Pioneer, have engaged the greater part of my attention for a long time, and with the completion of this book they are set before the reader. To me this has been the most interesting volume of the series. It is more thoroughly American and the men come more closely home to us therefore. Two of them come especially close to me, since Captain John Brady was my great - great - grandfather, and Captain Samuel Brady my great-granduncle. It has been a pleasure and pride to me to find them worthy of inclu sion in this category of heroes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
