Book The Making of Korean Christianity

Download or read book The Making of Korean Christianity written by Sung-Deuk Oak and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major catalyst for the growth of Korean Christianity occurred at the turn of the twentieth century when Western missionaries encountered the religious landscape of Korea. These first-generation missionaries have been framed as destroyers of Korean religion and culture. Yet, as Sung-Deuk Oak shows in The Making of Korean Christianity, existing Korean religious tradition also impacted the growth and character of evangelical Christianity. The melding of indigenous Korean religions and Christianity led to a highly localized Korean Christianity that flourished in the early modern era. The Making of Korean Christianity sorts fact from myth in this exhaustive examination of the local and global forces that shaped Christianity on the Korean Peninsula. The Making of Korean Christianity was recognized by theInternational Bulletin of Missionary Research as one of the top Fifteen Outstanding Books of 2013 for Mission Studies.

Book The Realities of Money and Missions

Download or read book The Realities of Money and Missions written by Jonathan J. Bonk and published by William Carey Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-21 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrity, Viability, and Accountability Perhaps there is no greater challenge in missions than money. Paul reminds us, “For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man” (2 Cor. 8:21). Money sufficient to assure the viability of one’s life work carries with it an insidious ethical virus that can easily infect the integrity and accountability of its stewards. The Realities of Money & Missions provides a unique level of credibility and transparency as it calls for evangelicals to reevaluate their relationship with money, both personally and corporately. Global case studies, workshops, and testimonials cover a broad range of topics such as: Misalignment between fiscal theology and practice Environmental stewardship, community development, and business as mission Mobilization, fundraising practices, and “faith financing” Short-term missions, patronage, and dependency Power dynamics and structural injustice The Realities of Money & Missions was not written by experts in the fields of investment, money management, or fundraising, but by men and women whose calling as missionaries, pastors, and administrators has brought them face-to-face with the complex, real-life issues involving the intersection of money and ministry. Read on and be challenged to change

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Author and Book Thomas Norton, born in 1942, was a resident of Anchorage from 1949 until 1969 and attended Anchorage schools and then studied biology and theology in Alaska, Oregon, California, and Bern, Switzerland. During and after his thirty-year pastorate in Switzerland, he spent about three years over a period of fifteen years in South Korea working in the mission and churches in many parts of this stimulating country. He attended a five-week crash course at the Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, trying to learn their language. Norton wrote a book entitled South Korea: My Adventures and Sermons and made a DVD in English and German entitled Mission in South Korea on the Salvation Ship and Mission in Südkorea mit dem Schiff Salvation. The DVD depicts the country, mission, and Asian medicine. During Tom’s ministry in Switzerland, he enjoyed playing curling and was a member of the Swiss American Society in Bern for more than thirty years, six of those years as president, thus having many embassy and other interesting contacts. Not only has he had many engagements in Switzerland and South Korea, but also, as an Alaskan, he has had involvements and adventures throughout Alaska that were often rare and not experienced by the general public. He considers himself fortunate to have been able to profit from these encounters and feels it valuable to be able to pass on his knowledge to other Alaskans and non-Alaskans. He believes all readers will not only gain from his experiences but also enjoy the interesting and flavorful episodes.

Book The Korean Missionary Movement

Download or read book The Korean Missionary Movement written by Steve Sang-Cheol Moon and published by William Carey Publishing. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the most thorough, penetrating analysis of trends in Korean missions to date. Seasoned researcher Steve Sang-Cheol Moon maps the relatively recent rise and explosive growth of the Korean missionary movement, studying the mission force and significant themes in its experience over a twenty-five-year period. These articles and papers supply data on every facet: mission fields and ministry foci; finances; age, marriage, family, and general demographics; training and credentials; burnout and attrition; education of missionary children; leadership trends; and global partnership. These chapters do not merely catalogue statistics—they probe beneath the surface to ask hard questions and set priorities for Korean missions. Moon explores painful subjects such as the 2007 hostage incident involving short-term workers in Afghanistan, and chronic concerns like workaholism and missionaries’ retirement. Ultimately, however, he finds much to commend and celebrate, tracing God’s providence in making Korea, within the span of a few decades, a dynamic leader in global missions.
