Book Principles of Field Crop Production

Download or read book Principles of Field Crop Production written by J. E. Pratley and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1994 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The range of pressures affecting farmers has increased significantly in recent times. Produce must meet escalating quality requirements, while competition demands heightened productivity. At the same time, the community demands that farmers maintain the natural resource base of the land of which they are custodians and that they minimize chemical treatments and fertilizers. Principles of Field Crop Production concentrates on today's principles of farming and addresses the issues of raising productivity and environmental management. The book also endeavors to put crop production in a broader perspective by addressing issues such as socioeconomic aspects and crop improvement. This third edition updates information on numerous crops, and provides new insights into farming systems and modern breeding methods such as genetic engineering. The text continues to fill an important role for students of agronomy and their teachers. It is also an important reference book for research workers and for others involved or interested in agriculture.

Book Field Crops Sustainable Management by PGPR

Download or read book Field Crops Sustainable Management by PGPR written by Dinesh Kumar Maheshwari and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-12 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the most challenging task ahead of researchers from India and around the globe: providing disease-free field crops for the ever-growing world population. In Asia, despite being cultivated in massive volumes, major crops, including cereals, oil seed, tuber and non-tuber vegetables, and fruit, are not meeting the demands of the increasing population. This book showcases naturally occurring beneficial microbes in the form of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria, or PGPR, which make it possible to grow field crops without applying synthetic chemicals. Our understanding of PGPR has increased exponentially in recent decades. They play a multifarious role in developing sustainable systems of crop production and protection. The book focuses on the mechanistic behaviors of PGPRs, their use to develop sustainable cultivation techniques, and their application to enhance crop growth and productivity at the cutting edge of tech-oriented agriculture and to replace hazardous chemicals with microbial inoculants. The book is useful to agronomists, microbiologists, ecologists, plant pathologists, molecular biologists, environmentalists, policy makers, conservationists, and NGOs working on organically grown field crops.

Book TEXTBOOK OF FIELD CROPS

Download or read book TEXTBOOK OF FIELD CROPS written by JOSHI, MUKUND and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is divided into two parts, kharif crops and rabi crops, covering as many as 48 crops. It contains the latest, authoritative and readily usable information about the cultivation techniques, varieties, nutrient/water/weed management along with specific climatic/soil requirements of all the crops. It is essentially a teaching and study material as it is written conforming to ICAR syllabus, strictly considering the limitations of the students and the teachers. Information on each crop is chosen in such a way that it is readily understandable by the undergraduate students and can be explained by the teachers in 22 weeks of a semester. Unnecessary detailing and research information has been avoided. Photographic illustrations of the crops are given to enable the students to understand the morphology of the crop clearly. Related terms, concepts or recent advancements in each crop are highlighted in the box. For a group of related crops, model questions are also given to visualise the probable questions on each crop. An attempt has been made to include the latest statistics from FAO and other global and Indian sources. Points to remember given at the end of each chapter enable the students to have a quick recap of the topic before examination. Further, many general topics, related to field crops, have been covered in eight separate brief chapters, to ensure that the students understand crop-related topics.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Field Crop Production: A d104-Book for Elementary Courses in Schools and Brief Courses in Colleges This book is intended to supply in convenient form general information regarding the subject of field crops, for use in agricultural schools and in elementary courses in colleges. It is in no sense a complete or exhaustive treatise on the subject, such as would be desired for regular college courses in field crops. In the author's judgment, the most effective method of presenting the subject of field crops to students in elementary courses is by the combination textbook and lecture plan, the textbook to furnish basic information, and the lecture to include such specific information as the instructor cares to give. In very elementary courses, the textbook would probably furnish the principal source of instruction. In presenting the subject of field crops to students of short or two-year courses in agricultural colleges, it is necessary, on account of the vast amount of experimental data which is accumulating and constantly changing, to devote a large part of the time allowed to the course to information of this sort, which leaves but little time for presenting the more elementary phases of the subject. A more complete and satisfactory course can, in the author's opinion, be given if the student by the aid of a general textbook can acquire these elementary facts outside of class hours. Book Advances Plant Phenotyping More Sustaihb

Download or read book Advances Plant Phenotyping More Sustaihb written by Achim Walter and published by Burleigh Dodds Series in Agricultural Science. This book was released on 2022-03-22 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant phenotyping is an emerging technology that involves the quantitative analysis of structural and functional plant traits. However, it is widely recognised that phenotyping needs to match similar advances in genetics if it is to not create a bottleneck in plant breeding. Advances in plant phenotyping for more sustainable crop production reviews the wealth of research on advances in plant phenotyping to meet this challenge, such as the development of new technologies including hyperspectral sensors such as LIDAR, NIR/SWIR, as well as alternative delivery/carrier systems, such as ground-based proximal distance systems and UAVs. The book details the development of plant phenotyping as a technique to analyse crop roots and functionality, as well as its use in understanding and improving crop response to biotic and abiotic stresses.
