Book Field Artillery Group in Battle

Download or read book Field Artillery Group in Battle written by W. H. F. Weber and published by . This book was released on 2003-07 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication is described as a tactical study based on the Action of 2nd Brigade, R.F.A (6th Division) during the German Offensive, 1918; the 100 Days Battle; and the Battle of Cambrai, 1917. It contains three Articles published in the Royal Artillery Journal between 1919 and 1923, which had as one object to place on record a set of actual experiences which could provide a framework on which to consider the practical effect of the aeroplane, the tank and chemical warfare on field artillery in battle and to see what lessons might be learned. A second object was to provide a souvenir of great days of the past for the officers and men who participated in the events described. The three Articles were entitled : A Field Artillery Group in Retreat (March/April 1918); A Field Artillery Group in the General Advance (September/October 1918), and A Field Artillery Group in the Surprise (Cambrai November 1917).

The 697th Field Artillery Battalion not only has a history stemming from the oldest battery in the U.S. Army, but it also has the distinction of being the first 240mm howitzer battalion formed for World War II. To carry on this proud history the 697th Field Artillery was the first 240mm howitzer outfit to enter combat in World War II, when it was committed under the aegis of the Fifth Army at Cassino, Italy, on 30 January 1944. From that time until 8 May 1945 when "Peace through Victory" was secured, the battalion remained in combat to become the last 240mm howitzer battalion to continue actively in battle in the European Theater. Contents: Historical Background; Italy; France and Germany; Peace; Appendices: Campaigns, Battalion Soft Ball Team, List of Awards, Commendations, Roster of Officers, Headquarters Battery, Medical Detachment, A Battery, B Battery, C Battery, Service Battery. 34 photos and illustrations, 2 maps.

Book Field Artillery Battalions of the US Army 400th 1136th battalion

Download or read book Field Artillery Battalions of the US Army 400th 1136th battalion written by James A. Sawicki and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary mission of the Field Artillery Battalion of World War II was to support the infantry in its role as the ground gaining arm. It accomplished this by giving close and continuous fire support to forward combat elements. It also provided depth to combat through counterbattery fire and restricted movement in hostile rear areas through the use of such firepower. But on 1 January 1941 there were only 38 separate battalions of field artillery in existence. By 31 December 1944 this figure had reached the astronomical number of 696 battalions. Although the maximum number of Field Artillery Battalions in active Federal service at any one time never exceeded 700 battalions, more than 1000 of them existed at one time or another between 1941 and 1959; the majority of which served during World War II and the Korean War. During World War II the Field Artillery had 43,153 casualties of which 8,479 were killed in action or died of wounds. 67 battalions were decorated with the Presidential Unit Citation, this nation's highest organizational award for extraordinary heroism in combat and 242 battalions were decorated by foreign governments. By 1960 none of these battalions were in existence. What happened to them? This two volume set gives you the answer to this and other questions you may have always had about field artillery--Jacket.
