Book Clinical Guide to Principles of Fiber Reinforced Composites in Dentistry

Download or read book Clinical Guide to Principles of Fiber Reinforced Composites in Dentistry written by Pekka Vallittu and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional dental materials such as metals and ceramics have a number of disadvantages such as cost and the significant damage caused in grinding to make space for such reconstructions. Fiber-reinforced composites (FRCs) are a novel group of dental materials characterized by fibrous fillers that are being increasingly used in place of traditional prosthodontic materials. They allow fabrication of minimally invasive, lightweight, durable and biocompatible restorations. This book will provide clinicians and students with theoretical and clinical guidelines to use the FRCs for dental applications. The book begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of FRCs in dentistry. Further chapters cover the treatment possibilities, fabrication and application procedures of FRCs, followed by information on care and maintenance. Explores the mechanism of function of fibre-reinforced composites Presents comprehensive information on the expanding field of fibre-reinforced composites and their increasing use in dentistry

Book Fiber Reinforced Composites

Download or read book Fiber Reinforced Composites written by Kuruvilla Joseph and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-20 with total page 908 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymer-based fibre-reinforced composites FRC’s have now come out as a major class of structural materials being used or regarded as substituent’s for metals in several critical components in space, automotive and other industries (marine, and sports goods) owing to their low density, strength-weight ratio, and fatigue strength. FRC’s have several commercial as well as industrial applications ranging from aircraft, space, automotive, sporting goods, marine, and infrastructure. The above-mentioned applications of FRC’s clearly reveal that FRC’s have the potential to be used in a broad range of different engineering fields with the added advantages of low density, and resistance to corrosion compared to conventional metallic and ceramic composites. However, for scientists/researchers/R&D’s to fabricate FRC’s with such potential there should be careful and precise design followed by suitable process development based on properties like mechanical, physical, and thermal that are unique to each application. Hence the last few decades have witnessed considerable research on fibre reinforced composites. Fibre Reinforced Composites: Constituents, Compatibility, Perspectives and Applications presents a widespread all-inclusive review on fibre-reinforced composites ranging from the different types of processing techniques to chemical modification of the fibre surface to enhance the interfacial adhesion between the matrix and fibre and the structure-property relationship. It illustrates how high value composites can be produced by efficient and sustainable processing methods by selecting different constituents [fibres and resins]. Researchers in academia working in composites and accompanying areas [materials characterisation] and industrial manufacturers who need information on composite constituents and how they relate to each other for a certain application will find the book extremely useful when they need to make decisions about materials selection for their products. Focuses on the different types of FRC’s that are currently available (e.g. from polymeric matrices to metallic and ceramic matrices, from carbon fibre to different types of natural fibres and from short to long fibre reinforced), their processing techniques, characterization of different properties, and how to improve the interfacial adhesion between an incompatible fibre and matrix and their applications Looks at crisis areas such as how to incorporate incompatible fibres and matrices together (e.g. Non-polar polypropylene matrix is not compatible with that of polar natural fibres and hence suitable surface modifications are required to make them compatible with each other) along with low cost processing methods, low density and high strength Uncovers clarifications to both elementary and practical problems related to the fabrication of FRCs Schematic representations depicting the interaction between different fibre types and matrices will be provided in some chapters

Download or read book FRC 2000 Composites for the Millennium written by A G Gibson and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2000-09-11 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the proceeding of the 8th in this successful series of conferences organised by the Centre for Composite Materials Engineering of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and sponsored by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (ImechE) and The Institute of Materials (IoM). The papers presented show how FRCs are being used in a steadily increasing range of technologies and how their properties make them appropriate choices for designers and processors interested in exploiting the potential of these highly versatile materials. Composites applications now extend well beyond their established uses in aerospace, marine and land transport and, although exciting developments are still taking place in these fields, it is the rapidly expanding range of civil engineering and infrastructure applications which offers the greatest potential for novel uses. FRC's high strength, light weight and durability make them appropriate for large scale structures and, as these proceedings demonstrate, they are increasingly being specified as an advantageous alternative to more traditional materials.

Book Progress of Fiber Reinforced Composites

Download or read book Progress of Fiber Reinforced Composites written by Ioannis Kartsonakis and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2022-08-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) materials are widely used in advanced structures and are often applied in order to replace traditional materials such as metal components, especially those used in corrosive environments. They have become essential materials for maintaining and strengthening existing infrastructure due to the fact that they combine low weight and density with high strength, corrosion resistance, and high durability, providing many benefits in performance and durability. Modified fiber-based composites exhibit better mechanical properties, impact resistance, wear resistance, and fire resistance. Therefore, the FRC materials have reached a significant level of applications ranging from aerospace, aviation, and automotive systems to industrial, civil engineering, military, biomedical, marine facilities, and renewable energy. In order to update the field of design and development of composites with the use of organic or inorganic fibers, a Special Issue entitled "Progress of Fiber-Reinforced Composites: Design and Applications" has been introduced. This reprint gathers and reviews the collection of twelve article contributions, with authors from Europe, Asia and America accepted for publication in the aforementioned Special Issue of Applied Sciences.

Book Natural Fiber Reinforced Biodegradable and Bioresorbable Polymer Composites

Download or read book Natural Fiber Reinforced Biodegradable and Bioresorbable Polymer Composites written by Alan Kin-tak Lau and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural Fiber-Reinforced Biodegradable and Bioresorbable Polymer Composites focuses on key areas of fundamental research and applications of biocomposites. Several key elements that affect the usage of these composites in real-life applications are discussed. There will be a comprehensive review on the different kinds of biocomposites at the beginning of the book, then the different types of natural fibers, bio-polymers, and green nanoparticle biocomposites are discussed as well as their potential for future development and use in engineering biomedical and domestic products. Recently mankind has realized that unless the environment is protected, he himself will be threatened by the over consumption of natural resources as well as a substantial reduction in the amount of fresh air produced in the world. Conservation of forests and the optimal utilization of agricultural and other renewable resources like solar, wind, and tidal energy, have become important topics worldwide. With such concern, the use of renewable resources—such as plant and animal-based, fiber-reinforced polymeric composites—are now becoming an important design criterion for designing and manufacturing components for a broad range of different industrial products. Research on biodegradable polymeric composites can contribute, to some extent, to a much greener and safer environment. For example, in the biomedical and bioengineering fields, the use of natural fiber mixed with biodegradable and bioresorbable polymers can produce joint and bone fixtures to alleviate pain in patients. Includes comprehensive information about the sources, properties, and biodegradability of natural fibers Discusses failure mechanisms and modeling of natural fibers composites Analyzes the effectiveness of using natural materials for enhancing mechanical, thermal, and biodegradable properties
