Book Fethullah G len s Teaching and Practice

Download or read book Fethullah G len s Teaching and Practice written by Paul Weller and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book of its kind about the Turkish Muslim scholar, Fethullah Gulen, since the July 2016 events in Turkey, the trauma experienced by Gulen, and the disruption to initiatives inspired by his teaching, known as Hizmet. Drawing on primary interviews with Gulen and Hizmet participants and a literature review, this Open Access book locates the clear origins of Gulens teaching in the Quran and Sunnah in dynamic engagement with their geographical, temporal and existential reception, translation, and onward communication. It argues that as Hizmet cannot be understood apart from Gulen and his teaching, Gulen and his teaching cannot be understood apart from Hizmet, while exploring the heritage of both. A more geographically focused case study is set out in author Paul Wellers Hizmet in Transitions: European Developments of a Turkish Muslim-Inspired Movement, also published by Palgrave Macmillan (2022). Paul Weller is Non-Stipendiary Research Fellow in Religion and Society and UK Associate Director of the Oxford Centre for Religion and Culture at Regents Park College, University of Oxford, UK, and an Associate Member of the Universitys Faculty of Theology and Religion.

Book Conversations on Fethullah G len and the Hizmet Movement

Download or read book Conversations on Fethullah G len and the Hizmet Movement written by Peter Barnes and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2015-12-16 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, entitled Conversations on Fethullah Gülen and the Hizment Movement: Dreaming for a Better World, is intended to represent an open perspective on the influence of the Hizmet Movement, including Fethullah Gülen in particular, on the theme of “dreaming for a better world,” based on a variety of Christian and Muslim world views. This theme is approached from three specific perspectives: education and an emphasis on interfaith and intercultural dialogue, a comparison of various spiritualties, and a consideration of the shared dreams of the two religions. The essays in this volume are adapted from talks presented by eleven authors from Canada and the United States at the Gülen Symposium at Carleton University in October 2009. The panel discussion that followed the individual presentations enhanced the overall theme of “dreaming for a better world.” The symposium as a whole represented the positive potential that there is for the organization of forums of sharing that focus on this theme and on the three sub themes.

Book Fethullah Gulen

Download or read book Fethullah Gulen written by Jon Pahl and published by Blue Dome Press. This book was released on 2019-04-22 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this first critical biography of Fethullah Gulen in English, historian Jon Pahl takes us on a journey where we discover wisdom and controversy, from 1940's Turkey to the U.S. in the twenty-first century. Pahl tells the story of a pious Muslim boy from a tiny and remote Turkish village who on the one hand has inspired a global movement of millions of individuals dedicated to literacy, social enterprise, and interreligious dialogue, but who on the other hand has been monitored by Turkish police, seen as a threat by autocrats, and recently declared number one enemy by the current Turkish dictator. With lively prose and extensive research, Pahl traces Fethullah Gulen's life and thought in its contexts, states clearly his own positions, and then lets readers draw their own conclusions from the evidence about this undeniably significant historical figure.

Book excerpt: Fethullah Gülen is a leading figure in the current Turkish socio-political context. Regardless of the impression different circles have about him, he is universally acknowledged as an accomplished scholar and independent thinker who has had a life in tears dreaming of a “golden generation,” but also a life spent in persecution and ongoing trials. Download or read book Time to Talk written by Ekrem Dumanli and published by Blue Dome Press. This book was released on 2015-04-07 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time to Talk , a detailed interview of Fethullah Gulen by Ekrem Dumanli, is a defense manifesto of the Hizmet Movement which has been engaged in educational activities around the world and in Turkey for five decades. The content of the talk once again confirms that the Movement, which has never been involved in any illegal activity whatsoever since its inception, expects nothing but the establishment of bridges of peace and brotherhood throughout the world. Gulen's responses to the questions on the association of the Hizmet Movement with the so-called "parallel state," the December 17 corruption investigation and many other critical inquiries eliminate the suspicions.

Book Tradition Witnessing the Modern Age

Download or read book Tradition Witnessing the Modern Age written by M. Enes Ergene and published by Tughra Books. This book was released on 2008 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Western perceptions of the East have been shaped by and large within the framework Western social sciences have drawn. The dress sewn for the Western context did not fit the Muslim world and social movements therein; however, social analysts work on the same model in their efforts to understand the East. The Gulen movement, which flourished first in the "East" but now spread across a hundred countries, is not immune from such a bias. This book on the Gulen movement is an effort to deconstruct this bias and the author points to a need for a comprehensive look on Muslim social movements. The author scholarly treats the Gulen movement in cultural, sociological, and religious standpoints, while laying out the main concepts he finds relevant with the movement's far-reaching spread across the world. As concisely phrased in the title, the Gulen case is an interesting encounter of the "tradition" and "modernity" both in the person of Fethullah Gulen and in the education and dialogue initiatives of the movement. The author sees in Gulen an embodiment of wisdom that peacefully harmonizes the benefits of the modern age and the heritage of a long past. Book jacket.

Book The Spirituality of Responsibility

Download or read book The Spirituality of Responsibility written by Simon Robinson and published by Bloomsbury Academic. This book was released on 2018-11-29 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turkish Islamic leader Fethullah Gülen offers a distinctive view of responsibility, which is explored here for the first time. Simon Robinson shows how Gülen's writings, influenced by both orthodox Islam and the Sufi tradition, contribute a dynamic, holistic and interactive view of responsibility which locates personal identity, agency and freedom in plural relationships. The Spirituality of Responsibility also explores the practice of responsibility in Gülen's life and in the Hizmet movement which he founded. Gülen has been at the centre of many controversies, including in his Movement's relationship with the Turkish government. Charting Gülen's response, from the Israeli Gaza blockade through to more recent crises, the book critiques aspects of both this practice and underlying ideas, and argues that responsibility, focused in dialogue and peace-building, is continuing to evolve in the leadership and practice of the movement, providing a challenge to conventional views of governance and responsibility. This book is an important contribution both to the theological and philosophical debate about responsibility but also to the practice of responsibility focused in creative action, debates in business and contemporary society about responsible governance and enterprise.
