Download or read book Differentiable Functions On Bad Domains written by Vladimir G Maz'ya and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-01-15 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spaces of functions with derivatives in Lp, called the Sobolev spaces, play an important role in modern analysis. During the last decades, these spaces have been intensively studied and by now many problems associated with them have been solved. However, the theory of these function classes for domains with nonsmooth boundaries is still in an unsatisfactory state. In this book, which partially fills this gap, certain aspects of the theory of Sobolev spaces for domains with singularities are studied. We mainly focus on the so-called imbedding theorems, extension theorems and trace theorems that have numerous applications to partial differential equations. Some of such applications are given.Much attention is also paid to counter examples showing, in particular, the difference between Sobolev spaces of the first and higher orders. A considerable part of the monograph is devoted to Sobolev classes for parameter dependent domains and domains with cusps, which are the simplest non-Lipschitz domains frequently used in applications. This book will be interesting not only to specialists in analysis but also to postgraduate students.
Download or read book Quadrature Domains and Their Applications written by Peter Ebenfelt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-10 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quadrature domains were singled out about 30 years ago by D. Aharonov and H.S. Shapiro in connection with an extremal problem in function theory. Since then, a series of coincidental discoveries put this class of planar domains at the center of crossroads of several quite independent mathematical theories, e.g., potential theory, Riemann surfaces, inverse problems, holomorphic partial differential equations, fluid mechanics, operator theory. The volume is devoted to recent advances in the theory of quadrature domains, illustrating well the multi-facet aspects of their nature. The book contains a large collection of open problems pertaining to the general theme of quadrature domains.
Download or read book Featured Reviews in Mathematical Reviews 1995 1996 written by Donald G. Babbitt and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of reprinted 'Featured Reviews' published in Mathematical Reviews (MR) in 1995 and 1996 makes widely available informed reviews of some of the best mathematics published recently. 'Featured Reviews' were introduced in MR at the beginning of 1995 in part to provide some guidance to the current research-level literature. With the exponential growth of publications in mathematical research in the first half-century of MR, it had become essentially impossible for users of MR to identify the most important new research-level books and papers, especially in fields outside of the users' own expertise. This work identifies some of the "best" new publications, papers, and books that are expected to have a significant impact on the area of pure or applied mathematics with which researchers are concerned. All of the papers reviewed here contain interesting new ideas or applications, a deep synthesis of existing ideas, or any combination of these. The volume is intended to lead the user to important new research across all fields covered by MR.

Download or read book Multiplicative Inequalities Of Carlson Type And Interpolation written by Leo Larsson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006-07-06 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collecting all the results on the particular types of inequalities, the coverage of this book is unique among textbooks in the literature. The book focuses on the historical development of the Carlson inequalities and their many generalizations and variations. As well as almost all known results concerning these inequalities and all known proof techniques, a number of open questions suitable for further research are considered. Two chapters are devoted to clarifying the close connection between interpolation theory and this type of inequality. Other applications are also included, in addition to a historical note on Fritz Carlson himself.

Download or read book Bergman Spaces written by Peter Duren and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2024-05-14 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The modern subject of Bergman spaces is a masterful blend of complex function theory with functional analysis and operator theory. It has much in common with Hardy spaces but involves new elements such as hyperbolic geometry, reproducing kernels, and biharmonic Green functions. This book develops background material and provides a self-contained introduction to a broad range of old and new topics in Bergman spaces, including recent advances on interpolation and sampling, contractive zero-divisors, and invariant subspaces. It is accessible to anyone who has studied basic real and complex analysis at the graduate level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifteen years ago, most mathematicians who worked in the intersection of function theory and operator theory thought that progress on the Bergman spaces was unlikely, yet today the situation has completely changed. For several years, research interest and activity have expanded in this area and there are now rich theories describing the Bergman spaces and their operators. This book is a timely treatment of the theory, written by three of the major players in the field.
Download or read book The Corona Problem written by Ronald G. Douglas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-05 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the corona workshop was to consider the corona problem in both one and several complex variables, both in the context of function theory and harmonic analysis as well as the context of operator theory and functional analysis. It was held in June 2012 at the Fields Institute in Toronto, and attended by about fifty mathematicians. This volume validates and commemorates the workshop, and records some of the ideas that were developed within. The corona problem dates back to 1941. It has exerted a powerful influence over mathematical analysis for nearly 75 years. There is material to help bring people up to speed in the latest ideas of the subject, as well as historical material to provide background. Particularly noteworthy is a history of the corona problem, authored by the five organizers, that provides a unique glimpse at how the problem and its many different solutions have developed. There has never been a meeting of this kind, and there has never been a volume of this kind. Mathematicians—both veterans and newcomers—will benefit from reading this book. This volume makes a unique contribution to the analysis literature and will be a valuable part of the canon for many years to come.
