Book excerpt: Under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act, Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) is proposing to establish maximum residue limits (MRLs) for fenbuconazole on citrus fruit (revised Crop Group 10-09), bushberries (Crop Subgroup 13-07B), almonds, apples, citrus oil, cranberries and peanuts to permit the import and sale of foods containing these residues. Fenbuconazole is a fungicide currently registered in Canada for use on stone fruits. Before registering a pesticide for food use in Canada, the PMRA must determine the quantity of residues that are likely to remain in or on the food when the pesticide is used according to label directions and that such residues will not be a concern to human health. This quantity is then legally established as a maximum residue limit (MRL). This paper reviews the level of legally established maximum residual level (MRLs) for fenbuconazole in Canada in or on food, to replace or be added to those MRLs already legally established. Two tables are given, one of proposed maximum residue limits and another of comparisons of Canadian MRLs, American tolerance and codex MRLs. An appendix of crop groups by number and definitions is also included.--Includes text from document.
