Download or read book Gender Space and Illicit Economies in Eighteenth Century Europe written by Anne Montenach and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-02-23 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to contribute a multi-dimensional, multi-layered and gendered approach to the illicit economy in the historiography of early modern Europe. Using original source material from several countries, this volume concentrates on a border and transnational area—approximately the Lyon-Geneva-Turin triangle—located at the heart of European trade. It focuses on three products—salt, cotton and silk—all of which fuelled the black market between the last decades of the seventeenth century and the French Revolution. This volume offers an original contribution to wider studies of smuggling, illicit markets and women’s economic roles by taking into account the economic life of remote mountain communities and industrious cities. Showing that irregular practices were a structural characteristic of early modern economies, it provides insight into the opportunities offered to women in a highly flexible economy where licit and illicit activities were intermingled in a very complex way. This research monograph is aimed at a historical audience and constitutes a useful resource for students and scholars interested in gender history, social and economic history, urban history and French studies.
Download or read book Officers Entrepreneurs Career Migrants and Diplomats written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2024-08-19 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Money, money, and more money.” In the eyes of early modern warlords, these were the three essential prerequisites for waging war. The transnational studies presented here describe and explain how belligerent powers did indeed rely on thriving markets where military entrepreneurs provided mercenaries, weapons, money, credit, food, expertise, and other services. In a fresh and comprehensive examination of pre-national military entrepreneurship – its actors, structures and economic logic – this volume shows how readily business relationships for supplying armies in the 17th and 18th centuries crossed territorial and confessional boundaries. By outlining and explicating early modern military entrepreneurial fields of action, this new transnational perspective transcends the limits of national historical approaches to the business of war. Download or read book Discrimination Against Women with Disabilities written by and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do women with disabilities often have difficulty obtaining economic self-sufficiency and equal access to education and training? Women with disabilities should have an equal right to employment, and should be portrayed in ordinary situations in the media, thus letting society benefit from their talents. Including practical information on how to improve their situation this publication draws attention to these and other problems. Prepared by a group of specialists it analyses the underlying factors of a double discrimination based on gender and handicap and proposes actions to achieve real equality. It will be of interest for all those preoccupied with the fight to counter discrimination throughout Europe.

This book was released on 2011-10-11 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book draws together both: theory and practice on minority/migrant women and gendered violence. The interplay of gender, ethnicity, religion, class, generation and sexuality in shaping the lives, experiences and choices of minority/migrant women affected by violence has not always been adequately theorised within much of the existing writing on violence against women. Feminist theory, especially the insights provided by the concept of intersectionality, are central to the editors’ conceptual frameworks.

Download or read book Eidgen ssische Grenzf lle written by Wolfgang Kaiser and published by Schwabe. This book was released on 2001 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This publication presents theoretical information, methods and resources for education and training activities, along with concrete exercises that users can put into practice in their daily work. Gender-based violence, including violence against women, remains a key human rights challenge in contemporary Europe and in the world. Working with young people on human rights education is one way of preventing gender-based violence from occurring. By raising awareness on why and how it manifests and exploring its impact on people and in society, gender-based violence will no longer go undetected. Download or read book Gender Orders Unbound written by Ilse Lenz and published by Barbara Budrich. This book was released on 2007-05-24 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last thirty years, the modernisation of gender relations has been dynamic and comprehensive, shaped by the conflicting forces of globalisation as well as women’s movements around the world. As the patterns of segregation and discrimination of the classical industrial gender order erode, new complexities and contentions in gender relations emerge at various sites such as politics, work and families. The main aim of the book is to trace formal as well as informal gender contracts as they emerge in everyday life and also in new norms and regulations set by states and enterprises. Core issues are the chances and the barriers for equality and new forms of gender reciprocity and solidarity.
Download or read book Gender Innovation and Migration in Switzerland written by Francesca Falk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-21 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book analyses migration and its relation to socio-political transformation in Switzerland. It addresses how migration has made new forms of life possible and shows how this process generated gender innovation in different fields: the changing division of work, the establishment of a nursery infrastructure, access to higher education for women, and the struggle for female suffrage. Seeing society through the lens of migration alters the perspective from which our past and thus our present is told—and our future imagined.
