Today the INELA spreads over fifteen districts with some two hundred congregations. The church is still predominately Aymara. In this book, Kaufmann develops a general theory of knowledge of the social sciences in his role as a cross-border commuter between Husserl's phenomenology, Kelsen's pure theory of law and the logical positivism of the Vienna Circle. This multilayered inquiry connects the value-oriented reflections of a general philosophy of science with the specificity of the methods and theories of the social sciences, as opposed to abstract natural science and psychology. The core focus of the study is the attempt to elucidate how and under what conditions scientific knowledge about social facts, empirically justified and theoretically embedded, can be obtained. The empirical basis of knowledge within the social sciences forms a phenomenological concept of experience. According to Kaufmann, this concept of experience exhibits a complex structure. Within the meaning-interpretation of human action as the core of knowledge in the social sciences, this structure reaches out across the isolated act of verification toward the synthesis of external and internal experiences. The book opens with a detailed and useful introduction by Ingeborg K. Helling, which introduces the historical and theoretical background of Kaufmann's study and specifically illuminates his relation to Alfred Schütz and John Dewey. Finally, it contains interviews with and letters to members of his family, colleagues and students.

Part of this search is related to humanity's yearning for true harmony and joy in the world. Christian spirituality, as a unique spirituality one encounters today, imparts various ways one can respond to this longing. One of these ways is through allegorical narratives. Specifically, this study analyzes the spirituality of Hannah Hurnard (1905-1990) by intertextually perusing her most famous allegorical narrative "Hinds' Feet on High Places." A Journey to the High Places is divided into four chapters. In chapter 1 the allegorical narrative is subjectively considered in all its aspects and the central themes are expressed without any reference to other secondary connections. Chapter 2 analyzes the allegorical narrative by relating this narrative with other material that Hannah Hurnard published. These other narratives provide the tools which Hannah employed in the composition of this allegorical narrative. Thus, chapter 2 presents an intertexual analysis between her other publications and "Hinds' Feet on High Places." Likewise, chapter 3 presents another intertextual analysis between the many biblical abstracts and their relation to the narrative, in the hope of showing her biblical interpretations. Several spiritual themes that emerged from the preceding chapters are discussed in chapter 4, presenting a consistent spirituality. In presenting the themes one notes that the strong points and weaknesses of Hannah's spirituality are related to other Christian spiritual traditions. In order to conduct a comprehensive study the introductory section of this study deals with the significance of allegory and spirituality.

In this period of religious change, the unsettled meanings of sacred sites and artifacts encouraged a new conception of remembrance and, with it, changed relationships between devotional and secular writings, arts, and identities. Beginning in the parish church, Shaping Remembrance from Shakespeare to Milton moves beyond that space to see remembrance as shaping dynamic systems within which early modern men and women experienced loss and recollection. Removing monuments from parochial or antiquarian concerns, this study re-imagines them as pervasively involved with other commemorative works, not least the writings of our most canonical authors. These far-reaching, flexible chapters combine three critical strands - religion, materiality, and gender - to describe the arts of remembrance as material and textual remains of living webs of connection in which creators and creations are mutually involved.
