Download or read book The Daddies written by Kimberly Dark and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-11-06 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Daddies is a love letter to masculinity, a kaleidoscope of its pleasures and horrors. The question “Who’s your Daddy?” started showing up in mainstream cultural references during the 1990s. Those words can be spoken as a question, or a challenge, as a flirtation, a joke, or a threat. It’s all about inflection, intention, and who’s asking. Apparently, we have so much shared cultural meaning about “Daddy” the speakers and listeners can simply intuit meaning and proceed to laugh at the joke, or experience the shame, as appropriate. But who is Daddy in American culture? The Daddies aims to find out more than who – but how the process of knowing Daddy can prompt readers to know themselves and their society. This allegory about patriarchy unfolds as a kinky lesbian Daddy/girl love story. Daddy-ness is situated in all people, after all, and we each share responsibility for creating a fairer world. The Daddies can be used as a springboard for discussion in courses in sociology, gender and women's studies, cultural studies, sexuality studies and communication. As a work of fiction, The Daddies can also be enjoyed by general audiences.

Download or read book Why Doesn t Daddy Feel So Well written by R. A. Kelley and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is book is one of the most imaginative and innovative approaches to helping young children understand the nature of alcoholism and its devastating impact on them and their entire family. A simple story of a family with young children going through this life crisis is the teaching tool. The story is based on the author's personal experience and written for children ages 7-12. Instructions are provided to the parent to enable them to guide the child through the story emotionally and to invite them to identify and share their feelings about the family in the story, and most importantly, about their own family. The book uses Key Points at the beginning of each chapter to highlight critical issues the parent should discuss during the chapter. As both the parent and child read through the story together, the parent is focused and guided to use the story as a springboard for conversation and enlightenment regarding the child's own family situation and dynamics. At the end of each chapter is a section called, "Things to think about." These are a series of thoughtful questions for discussion that invite and encourage both parent and child to bring to the surface intense feelings that are sometimes buried deeply. The ultimate purpose is to help the child understand that they cannot cause, control, nor cure the disease, preventing them from unnecessary guilt and incurring permanent damage to their self-esteem. The story ends with a message of hope that there is help out there and that they are never alone. It also reinforces the notion that they are responsible for their own recovery and that there are many tools available. Finally a list of resources, phone numbers, and websites is provided for the reader to build on the experience the book provides.

Book excerpt: Thank you Bill for your friendship and your Wonderful endorsement it means so much to Anthony and I. And Titus, what can dad and I say. You have a flair for taking powerful pictures. Thank you for taking the one above of us on the swing for this book we will remember it always son. Over a decade ago, the author of this book sent me a short story with a number of photos to place on my Eddy Arnold website, which I have maintained since 1997. Happily, I posted it immediately as I was confident the visitors to the site would enjoy reading it as much as I did. The narrative was a beautiful true story of a young boy who loved his family, his God, his Church, and Eddy Arnold. It was a big hit on the site. It remains on the Index page of the site. And now this narrative has grown into a book with over three hundred pages. Many of these chapters were written over a period of years. I found this book to be a Mom & Apple Pie, type... full of love and happiness and American families. When reading this wonderful book you will experience romance, marriage, birth, death, happiness, sadness, health, sickness and always the love and power of the Almighty! The author is so skilled in her writing that I could visually see the events described printed page. Although you will shed, a tear or two while engaged with the real people in their sadness it will fade as the overall theme of the book will make you happy. This book is a MUST READ for Eddy Arnold fans and all who enjoy reading just a plain GOOD BOOK! Bill Comer, Webmaster for Welcome to the World of Eddy Arnold www.eddyarnold.com
