Book excerpt: Economic analysis was applied to an experiment designed to determine the characteristics of feedlot ram and ewe lambs carried to heavier than normal weights under alternative ration energy densities. the study concluded that net returns can be increased by feeding ram lambs to weights 10 to 40 pounds heavier than the normal 90 to 110 pound weight range depending upon feed cost levels, feed ration, and lamb valuation method. high energy density diets provided the highest net returns for both ram and ewe lambs. three feed price levels and three lamb valuation schemes were also tested.
