Book excerpt: A rare text dedicated to high-performance measurement techniques in modern communications. It describes high performance measurement techniques for digital communications and digital signal processing in radio and microwave systems, wire line channels, as well as measurements for analog communications channels. AUTHOR'S COMMENTS The purpose of this book is to present the engineering considerations necessary for the comprehension of modern telecommunication measurement and related instrumentation and analysis techniques. I wish to emphasize that this is not an academic book in the sense of analytical communications or measurement theory. Rather, it stresses the measurements, experimental analysis and instrumentation problems related to communications systems. PUBLISHER'S COMMENTS This book provides a strong foundation for understanding the special problems associated with testing modern communications systems. Its original publication anticipated the needs of communications engineers, setting a foundation for current work. The book's continued availability assures that new engineers will have access to a key reference text in this important area of technology.
Download or read book Bandwidth Efficient Digital Modulation with Application to Deep Space Communications written by Marvin K. Simon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-03-04 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important look at bandwidth-efficient modulations with applications to today's Space program Based on research and results obtained at the California Institute of Technology's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, this timely book defines, describes, and then delineates the performance (power and bandwidth) of digital communication systems that incorporate a wide variety of bandwidth-efficient modulations appropriate for the design and implementation of space communications systems. The author compares the performance of these systems in the presence of a number of practical (non-ideal) transmitter and receiver characteristics such as modulator and phase imbalance, imperfect carrier synchronization, and transmitter nonlinearity. Although the material focuses on the deep space applications developed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the presentation is sufficiently broad as to be applicable to a host of other applications dealing with RF communications. An important contribution to the scientific literature, Bandwidth-Efficient Digital Modulation with Application to Deep Space Communications * was commissioned by the JPL Deep Space Communications and Navigation System Center of Excellence * highlights many NASA-funded technical contributions pertaining to deep space communications systems * is a part of the prestigious Deep Space Communications and Navigation Series The Deep Space Communications and Navigation Series is authored by scientists and engineers with extensive experience in astronautics, communications, and related fields. It lays the foundation for innovation in the areas of deep space navigation and communications by disseminating state-of-the-art knowledge in key technologies.
Download or read book Digital Image Compression written by Weidong Kou and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1995-09-30 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital image business applications are expanding rapidly, driven by recent advances in the technology and breakthroughs in the price and performance of hardware and firmware. This ever increasing need for the storage and transmission of images has in turn driven the technology of image compression: image data rate reduction to save storage space and reduce transmission rate requirements. Digital image compression offers a solution to a variety of imaging applications that require a vast amount of data to represent the images, such as document imaging management systems, facsimile transmission, image archiving, remote sensing, medical imaging, entertainment, HDTV, broadcasting, education and video teleconferencing. Digital Image Compression: Algorithms and Standards introduces the reader to compression algorithms, including the CCITT facsimile standards T.4 and T.6, JBIG, CCITT H.261 and MPEG standards. The book provides comprehensive explanations of the principles and concepts of the algorithms, helping the readers' understanding and allowing them to use the standards in business, product development and R&D. Audience: A valuable reference for the graduate student, researcher and engineer. May also be used as a text for a course on the subject.

Download or read book Orthogonal Time Frequency Space Modulation written by Suvra Sekhar Das and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few decades wireless communications, especially Mobile Communication Technology, has evolved by leaps and bounds. The mobile communication industry has named the different major changes as generations namely 1G, 2G,..5G. We are presently looking at deployment of 5G technologies. The work for 6G has already started. This book is focused on the waveform design of 6G. It presents a discourse on a potential waveform for 6G namely Orthogonal Time Frequency Space (OTFS) modulation. OTFS has a distinct feature when compared to earlier generation waveforms such that information bearing signal is placed in the delay Doppler domain as opposed to the usual placement of such signals in the time-frequency domain. This unique feature of OTFS enables it to overcome several disadvantages of a very popular and highly successful waveform namely Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). OTFS is known to be more resilient to frequency offset and Doppler which is one of the key drawbacks of OFDM. With this feature, OTFS, can support higher mobility as well as higher frequency bands of operation which is also one of the key requirements of the next generation wireless communication technologies. The implementation complexity of OTFS remains comparable to that of OFDM. It is found that OTFS provides significant SNR advantage, higher resilience, lower PAPR, lower out of band signal leakage and higher multi-user spectral efficiency than that of OFDM. This book addresses• Fundamental signal model of OTFS. • Receiver design for OTFS• Channel estimation in OTFS• Multiple Access through non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA-OTFS) The contents of the books are primarily outcome of the research work done at the G. S. Sanyal School of Telecommunications, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Kharagpur, India. Orthogonal Time Frequency Space Modulation : A waveform for 6G is ideal for personnel the wireless communication industry as well as academic staff and master/research students in electrical engineering with a specialization in wireless communications.
