Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fats and Oils Outlook and Situation: July, 1982 After rising from a February low of a bushel to in May, farm prices for soybeans fell to in June. Prospects for a 1982 crop that is larger than this year's will continue to offset limited improvement in near-term demand - holding down prices this summer. As of June 1, us. Farmers indicated that they planted or intend to plant million acres to soybeans, up 6 percent from 1981 and 1 percent above the previous record set in 1980. The largest increases are indicated in Missouri, up acres; Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, and South Carolina, also up While weather will heavily influence the final outcome, a trend yield would raise output 6 percent to around million bushels. If this season's ending stocks, estimated at 270 million bushels, are realized, supplies could almost match 1979/80's record million bushels. Several factors - including slow economic growth worldwide, high interest rates, and a strong dollar - are limiting demand this season, and will continue to do so in the upcoming marketing year. However, moderate increases in use are expected in because larger supplies could push the season-average farm price below $6 a bushel. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fats and Oils: Outlook and Situation; April, 1982 Large stocks of soybean oil carried over from last mar keting year have held down prices all season. Yet, because low prices have made soybean oil so competitive domestic use is expected to rise almost 5 percent to billion pounds. While us. Exports during October February were 27 percent above a year earlier, the rise failed to keep pace with earlier expectations. So, for the season, exports are forecast at billion pounds. Despite increased use and an anticipated drawdown in stocks, supplies will remain burdensome and keep prices weak. Soybean oil prices averaged cents a pound in March, cents below a year earlier. For the season, prices are expected to average 19 cents, down from last year's cents. Within the soybean complex, meal prices are expected to show the smallest year-to-year decline - 15 percent below last season's average. However, a projected 2 percent increase for domestic use and a forecast 6 percent rise in exports still won't generate meal prices capable of offsetting the weak oil market and of improv ing crushing margins. Prices for soybean meal have averaged $185 a short ton during october-march and will average around this level for the rest of the year.' The R values indicate that the equations explained between 90 and 99 percent of the regional variation in soybean acreage over the his toric period, Table 1. Since the equations were estimated using data only through the crop year, one test of the validity of the model would be to compare the model's forecast of acreage planted in 1980 to the actual acreage planted. Summing the regional forecasts for 1980 resulted in a national forecast of million acres. Actual plantings were million acres. The model overestimated plantings by million acres or slightly less than two percent. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fats and Oils Outlook and Situation, Vol. 304: July 1981 Preliminary projections of world oilseed pro duction indicate a record million metric tons, up 7 percent from this year's harvest. Most of the increase is due to larger soybean crops forecast for the United States and Mexico. Increases are also expected for Brazil and Argentina, even though crops in those countries have not yet been planted. Larger sunflower seed produc tion in the United States, ussr, and Eastern and Western Europe and rising peanut output in this country and Senegal account for much of the remaining projected increase. The favorable production Outlook should mean greater use of oilseed products, even though a sluggish world economy may limit demand growth for oil meals and vegetable oils. Consequently, little change in global stocks in expected. This year's u.s. Soybean planted acreage is estimated at million acres million hectares), down 2 per cent from 1980. Lower soybean prices relative to feed grains encouraged producers to trim 1981 plantings. This year, about 15 percent of the soybean acreage will be planted following the harvest of another crop, primarily winter wheat. In comparison, 9 percent of last year's acreage was double cropped. Total us. Soybean production is projected at 2 billion bushels million metric tons). This represents a 9 percent increase over last season's output, when drought cut harvested acreage and yields. This book was released on 2018-01-09 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fats and Oils Outlook and Situation, Vol. 303: May, 1981 Soybean yields in the South Central region tend to deviate from trend less than any other region, with a standard error of bushels per year. If 1981 is 8 nor mal year, then yields will be in the to range. An unusual year could see yields in the South Central region deviating from trend by as much as bushels. If 1981 turns out to be another extreme year, yields in the area will deviate from trend by more than bushels, and production could fluctuate by over 50 million bushels. Based on the definitions presented above for normal, unusual, and extreme years, 1978 was a normal year. Both 1979 and 1980 were extreme years. Yields were extremely high in 1979 and extremely low in 1980. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Fats and Oils Situation

Download or read book The Fats and Oils Situation written by U. S. Bureau Of Agricultural Economics and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fats and Oils Situation: March 1937 The general outlook in 1937 appears to be moderately favorable to producers of fats and oils and to growers of oilseeds or nuts. Since most industries utilizing fats and oils are expected to increase their output in 1937, total consumption in the United States will probably exceed that of 1936. There are no indications of any material increase in total production from domestic materials over the relatively low level in 1936, and large imports of oils and their raw materials seem likely to continue through most of 1937. The most uncertain factor in the outlook is the foreign supply situation, but it is believed that increasing demand in foreign countries will more than offset the price depressing effect of any increase which might develop in foreign production.
