Book Fast Feature Based Wavelet Shrinkage Algorithm for Image Denoising

Download or read book Fast Feature Based Wavelet Shrinkage Algorithm for Image Denoising written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a selective wavelet shrinkage algorithm for digital image denoising. The performance of this method is an improvement upon other methods proposed in the literature and is algorithmically simple for large computational savings. The improved performance and computational speed of the proposed wavelet shrinkage algorithm is presented and experimentally compared with established methods. The denoising methodology incorporated in this new algorithm involves a two-threshold validation process for real-time selection of wavelet coefficients. The two-threshold criteria selects wavelet coefficients based on their absolute value, spatial regularity, and regularity across multi-resolutional scales. The proposed algorithm takes image features into consideration in the selection process. Statistically, most images have regular features resulting in connected subband coefficients. Therefore, the resulting subbands of wavelet transformed images in large part do not contain isolated coefficients. In the proposed algorithm, after coefficients are selected due to their magnitude, image features in terms of spatial regularity are used to further reduce the number of coefficients kept for image reconstruction. The proposed wavelet denoising technique is unique in that its performance improved upon several other established wavelet denoising techniques as well as being computationally efficient to facilitate realtime image processing applications.

Book Wavelet Shrinkage Based Image Denoising Using Soft Computing

Download or read book Wavelet Shrinkage Based Image Denoising Using Soft Computing written by Rong Bai and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noise reduction is an open problem and has received considerable attention in the literature for several decades. Over the last two decades, wavelet based methods have been applied to the problem of noise reduction and have been shown to outperform the traditional Wiener filter, Median filter, and modified Lee filter in terms of root mean squared error (MSE), peak signal noise ratio (PSNR) and other evaluation methods. In this research, two approaches for the development of high performance algorithms for de-noising are proposed, both based on soft computing tools, such as fuzzy logic, neural networks, and genetic algorithms. First, an improved additive noise reduction method for digital grey scale nature images, which uses an interval type-2 fuzzy logic system to shrink wavelet coefficients, is proposed. This method is an extension of a recently published approach for additive noise reduction using a type-1 fuzzy logic system based wavelet shrinkage. Unlike the type-1 fuzzy logic system based wavelet shrinkage method, the proposed approach employs a thresholding filter to adjust the wavelet coefficients according to the linguistic uncertainty in neighborhood values, inter-scale dependencies and intra-scale correlations of wavelet coefficients at different resolutions by exploiting the interval type-2 fuzzy set theory. Experimental results show that the proposed approach can efficiently and rapidly remove additive noise from digital grey scale images. Objective analysis and visual observations show that the proposed approach outperforms current fuzzy non-wavelet methods and fuzzy wavelet based methods, and is comparable with some recent but more complex wavelet methods, such as Hidden Markov Model based additive noise de-noising method. The main differences between the proposed approach and other wavelet shrinkage based approaches and the main improvements of the proposed approach are also illustrated in this thesis. Second, another improved method of additive noise reduction is also proposed. The method is based on fusing the results of different filters using a Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN). The proposed method combines the advantages of these filters and has outstanding ability of smoothing out additive noise while preserving details of an image (e.g. edges and lines) effectively. A Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to choose the optimal parameters of the FNN. The experimental results show that the proposed method is powerful for removing noise from natural images, and the MSE of this approach is less, and the PSNR of is higher, than that of any individual filters which are used for fusion. Finally, the two proposed approaches are compared with each other from different point of views, such as objective analysis in terms of mean squared error(MSE), peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), image quality index (IQI) based on quality assessment of distorted images, and Information Theoretic Criterion (ITC) based on a human vision model, computational cost, universality, and human observation. The results show that the proposed FNN based algorithm optimized by GA has the best performance among all testing approaches. Important considerations for these proposed approaches and future work are discussed.

Book Multi Wavelet Based Image De noising

Download or read book Multi Wavelet Based Image De noising written by Manuraj Jaiswal and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Image denoising naturally corrupted by noise is a classical problem in the field of signal or image processing. Denoising of a natural images corrupted by Gaussian noise using multi-wavelet techniques are very effective because of its ability to capture the energy of a signal in few energy transfer values. Multi-wavelet can satisfy with symmetry and asymmetry which are very important characteristics in signal processing. The better denoising result depends on the degree of the noise. Generally, its energy is distributed over low frequency band while both its noise and details are distributed over high frequency band. Corresponding hard threshold used in different scale high frequency sub-bands. This work is proposed to indicate the suitability of different wavelet and multi-wavelet based and a size of different neighborhood on the performance of image denoising algorithm in terms of PSNR value. Finally it compares wavelet and multi-wavelet techniques and produces best denoised image using multi-wavelet technique based on the performance of image denoising algorithm in terms of PSNR Values.

Book An Efficient Image Denoising Approach Based on Dictionary Learning

Download or read book An Efficient Image Denoising Approach Based on Dictionary Learning written by Mohammadreza Karimipoor and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, a denoising method based on dictionary learning has been proposed. With the increasing use of digital images, the methods that can remove noise based on image content and not restrictedly based on statistical properties has been widely extended. The major weakness of dictionary learning methods is that all of these methods require a long training process and a very large storage memory for storing features extracted from the training images. In the proposed method, using the concept of sparse matrix and similarities between samples extracted of similar images and adaptive filters the training process of dictionary based on ideal images have been simplified. Finally Images are checked based on its content by implicit optimization of memory usage and image noise will be removed with a minimum loss of stored samples in existing dictionary. At the end, the proposed method is implemented and results are shown its capabilities in comparison with other methods.
