Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture is one of America's leading industries. Until now, there has been not been a single volume that covers the law of agricultural land preservation. This book covers the legal principles, federal and state requirements, and the issues that have arisen in implementing public and private agricultural preservation programs, federal tax and estate laws, court cases, and landowner financial issues and options that affect agricultural land preservation efforts.Agricultural land preservation can help farmers and ranchers by providing needed capital to strengthen the profitability of the agricultural operation, facilitate the transfer of the farm or ranch to the next generation, and offer an alternative to selling land for development. This book provides practical, current guidance for attorneys advising landowning clients who wish to explore agricultural land preservation options, in addition to those who advise private, nonprofit land trusts or government agencies that preserve farmland.

Book excerpt: Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (US Natural Resources Conservation Service Regulation) (NRCS) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (US Natural Resources Conservation Service Regulation) (NRCS) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 The Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (the 2008 Act) amended the Farmland Protection Program (FPP), established by the Federal Agriculture Improvement and Reform Act of 1996, and reauthorized by the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002. In the implementing rulemaking, the program was named the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP) to describe best the types of land the program seeks to protect. Under the FRPP, the Secretary of Agriculture, acting through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), is authorized, on behalf of the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) and under its authorities, to facilitate and provide funding for the purchase of conservation easements or other interests in land for the purpose of protecting the agricultural use and related conservation values by limiting nonagricultural uses of the land. This rulemaking implements changes to FRPP made by the 2008 Act and makes administrative improvement to the program. This book contains: - The complete text of the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (US Natural Resources Conservation Service Regulation) (NRCS) (2018 Edition) - A table of contents with the page number of each section

Book The Law of the Land

Download or read book The Law of the Land written by John Opie and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book provides fascinating insights into how present-day American land legislation has evolved. In doing so the author identifies the many problems that the family farmer has had to face over the past two centuries at the hands of the weather, unstable product prices, and corrupt and venal politicians."--Journal of Agricultural Economics. "A provocative, learned, polemical contribution to the debate on the nature of the farm problem and the means to solve it. Throughout our history, Opie, a historian, convincingly argues, contradictory goals have produced contradictory policies that are the sources of our current problems."--Science. "This important volume offers a reinterpretation of public lands history as it relates to contemporary farm policy. . . . [Opie's] signal contribution is to examine and evaluate the many policy strands of a twentieth-century safety net designed by Congress to sustain the family farm."--Journal of American History "Bright, passionate, and entirely convincing."--Journal of Rural Studies "The Law of the Land has made a significant contribution to agricultural and public policy history by pointing out that American ideals have shaped policies and assigned roles that have often left farmers and farmland vulnerable."--Public Historian "The five years that have passed since this book was first published have been enough to conclude that John Opie can reconstruct the past and predict the future. . . . Many of the problems he foresaw have come to pass and some of the solutions he discussed have been adopted. . . . Anyone interested in the basic environment will find that this volume gives a clear picture of how we got to where we are today in the use and misuse of natural resources. . ."--Environmental History Review. A professor of history at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, John Opie is also director of the Center for Technology Studies and founding editor of Environmental History Review. His other publications include Ogallala: Water for a Dry Land (Nebraska 1993).

Book Who Will Feed China

Download or read book Who Will Feed China written by Lester Brown and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-08-18 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1995, but with enduring relevance in a time of global population growth and food insecurity, when it was first published, this book attracted much global attention, and criticism from Beijing. It argued that even as water becomes scarcer in a land where 80% of the grain crop is irrigated, as per-acre yield gains are erased by the loss of agricultural land to industrialization, and as food production stagnates, China still increases its population by the equivalent of a new Beijing each year. This book predicts that in an integrated world economy, China’s rising food prices will become the world’s rising food prices. China’s land scarcity will come everyone’s land scarcity and water scarcity in China will affect the entire world. China’s dependence on massive imports, like the collapse of the world’s fisheries, will be a wake-up call that we are colliding with the earth’s capacity to feed us. Over time, Janet Larsen argued, China’s leaders came to ‘acknowledge how Who Will Feed China? changed their thinking..’ As China’s wealth increases, so do the dietary demands of its population. The increasing middle classes demand more grain-intensive meat and farmed fish. The issue of who will feed China has not gone away.
