Book Farmers Education and Profit Efficiency in Sugarcane Production

Download or read book Farmers Education and Profit Efficiency in Sugarcane Production written by Rangalal Mohapatra and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a globally competitive environment where everything is commercialized, agriculture is no exception. The role that education of the effective head of the farm household, education of the family of the farm household and their experience plays, in addition to the primary inputs, in improving the profit efficiency of the farm household has been empirically tested for the primary data collected from 200 sugarcane farm households in Orissa. The results of the joint estimation of parameters of profit function and the inefficiency components suggest that 93% differences in the efficiency scores are due to profit inefficiency, and profit inefficiency reduces significantly with higher education. The mean efficiency is 79% and more than 80% of the farmers achieve 70-99% profit efficiency. A grassroots level farming practice awareness program both by government and private agencies as well as the reorientation of the formal education curriculum toward farm-oriented curriculum are highly recommended.

Download or read book Profitability and Technical Efficiency of Sugarcane Farmers written by Yu Yu Mon and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sugarcane is not only major industrial crop but also one of the economic pillar crops in Myanmar agriculture. Due to increased demand for local consumption and export oriented nature, it should be increased not only plantation area but also yield per unit area and recovery percentage. In Myanmar, state sector productions are target driven and private sector productions are profit-oriented on free market economy. But sugarcane based small holding farms of private sector faced many challenges. Yield of sugarcane production and cane quality is low and production cost is high due to high transportation and input cost and loan interest. The small-scale private sector operates with very low efficiency in sugar recovery, higher losses and inferior in quality. Increases in sugar production are influenced by improvements in the production technology of existing sugarcane lands, mills and new sugar processing facilities. So, there is a need for technology improvement and technical efficiency measurement. This book provides economic analysis and effective ways to improve the profitability and technical efficiency of small holder sugarcane farmers at different farm size and plant natur

Book Efficiency in Sugarcane Production in Jigawa State Nigeria

Download or read book Efficiency in Sugarcane Production in Jigawa State Nigeria written by Akinola Babalola and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sugarcane is a major crop grown at commercial level in Jigawa state, but farmers' productivity is low. Therefore the state government established the Millennium Village Commission (MVC) with the aim of improving the Technical efficiency of sugarcane farmers in Jigawa state. This study assessed how the MVC intervention has impacted on the participating farmers' Technical efficiency relative to non-participants. One hundred and twenty MVC and 160 non-MVC farmers, were sampled. Data was collected on farmers' socio-economic characteristics, inputs and cost structure, output and revenue based on a 5-year (2003-2007) production activities. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics, gross margin analysis and the stochastic frontier production function model at p= 0.05. The study showed that the MVC programme increased the economic benefit of the sugarcane farmers that participated, but not the farmers' technical efficiency. However, inefficiency can be reduced if rural education, participation in community based organisation and access to extension services can be facilitated among farmers.

Book Sugar Cane Cultivation and Management

Download or read book Sugar Cane Cultivation and Management written by H. Bakker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-08-31 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is intended for reference by the commercial sugar cane grower. Disciplines are covered for the successful production of a sugar cane crop. A number of good books exist on field practices related to the growing of sugar cane. Two examples are R.P. Humbert's The Growing of Sugar Cane and Alex G. Alexander's Sugarcane Physiology. Volumes of technical papers, produced regularly by the International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists, are also a source of reference. Perhaps foremost, local associations, such as the South African Sugar Technologists' Association, do excellent work in this regard. In my forty-five years of experience with the day-to-day problems of producing a satisfactory crop of sugar cane, deciding what should be done to produce such a crop was not straightforward. Although the literature dealing with specific subjects is extensive, I tried to consolidate some of the material to provide the man in the field with information, or an overview of the subject matter.

Download or read book Economic Analysis of Growth Instability and Resource Use Efficiency of Sugarcane Cultivation in India written by Nasim Ahmad and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objectives: To find out the growth, as well as instability in area, production and productivity of sugarcane farming and to assess the resource use efficiency in major sugarcane growing states of India and trade performance of sugar.Methods/Statistical analysis: Investigation is based on secondary data of area, production and productivity of sugarcane in major sugarcane growing states of India for the period from 2000-01 to 2015-16. Efficiency of sugarcane production was estimated using plot level data obtained from website of Cost of Cultivation Scheme, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India for the year, 2014-15. Compound growth rates, instability indices using formula suggested by Cuddy- Della Valle, and resource use efficiency using Data Envelopment approach (DEA) were computed.Findings: At national level area, production and productivity of sugarcane went up during the period of investigation. Similar result was also observed in case of growth rates of sugarcane crop which were found positive and encouraging. The area under sugarcane was found stable in the states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Gujarat on the other hand the yield of sugarcane recorded almost stable in Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Tamil Nadu. Technical efficiency at national level in sugarcane production was found to be 66% which indicated that the production of crop may further be raised by 34% with the available technology. Allocative mean efficiencies indicated that costs may be reduced by 40% through using optimum combination of inputs keeping in mind their prices while selecting their quantities. The cost efficiency (CE) asserted that farmers may potentially reduce their overall cost of sugarcane production, up to 60% to harvest the existing level of output at least cost. Undoubtedly, the export of sugar from India has increased during the period of investigation.Applications/Improvements: State government initiatives were found appreciable making sugarcane cultivation more remunerative. Proper use of scarce resources may make it more productive and profitable and realizing the objective of doubling income and uplifting standard of cultivators.

Book Farmer Education and Farm Efficiency

Download or read book Farmer Education and Farm Efficiency written by Dean T. Jamison and published by Johns Hopkins University Press. This book was released on 1982 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the relationship between the education farmers have received and their subsequent efficiency as farm operators. The concern is with the self-employed in agriculture, the small farmer. The study is concerned solely with ascertaining empirically the effect of schooling on agricultural efficiency and, when possible, the effect of access to information as measured by exposure to extension services. The study uses data from Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand; related findings from several other countries of Africa, Asia, and Latin America are reviewed. Surveys of individual farms provide the data used in the empirical analyses. Analyses from Thailand indicate that farmers of all educational levels are maximizing profits. However, more educated farmers do have higher levels of profits, which reflect the higher levels of productivity found in the production function analyses. Education has little effect on market efficiency. Higher levels of education and exposure to extension services increase the probabilities of using chemical fertilizers. The effects of education were much more likely to be positive in modernizing agricultural environments rather than in traditional ones.
