Book Cut the Crap and Close the Gap

Download or read book Cut the Crap and Close the Gap written by Jim Coleman and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2017-07-03 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cut the Crap and Close the Gap is written by a Hog Farmer, Fortune 500 Executive and Economic Developer. It’s a practical operating guide for achieving breakthrough levels of performance by closing performance gaps between actual and desired performance and adjusting to exceed expectations. The principles of Cut the Crap and Close the Gap can be used by small and large businesses, not for profit organizations, state and local governments, faith based organizations and even parents. According to Dunn & Bradstreet, 585,000 of the more than 22 million small to medium sized businesses in America close each year. Businesses with fewer than 20 employees have only a 37% chance of surviving for four years and only a 9% chance of surviving for 10 years. Nine out of 10 business failures are caused by a lack of general business management skills including management of staff, operations, sales, marketing and planning. The Cut the Crap and Close the Gap management model requires the courage to question and challenge conventional wisdom and to operate with a spirit of continuous improvement, that things can always be better and that being satisfied with the status quo is totally unacceptable. The foundation for the Cut the Crap and Close the Gap management approach is aligned with the philosophy of Civil rights Activist, Angela Davis, "I'm no longer accepting the things I can not change...I'm changing the things I can not accept". The following chapters are filled with examples of how Jim Coleman has either applied or personally witnessed the use of the Cut the Crap and Close the Gap management approach over the last 30 years.

Book excerpt: A detail-driven account of how a gang of criminal misfits pulled off the world’s biggest cash robbery, from the bestselling author of true crime classic Fred & Rose. The target was a regional counting house for the Bank of England, a fortified concrete bunker located within a triangle of police stations, one only three hundred yards away. When former UFC cage fighter Lightning Lee Murray discovered that this cash centre held hundreds of millions of pounds, he assembled a team of mates including a mechanic, a roofer, and a used car dealer. A hairdresser made disguises for the men so they could pass off as police officers. In an Ocean’s Eleven–style robbery, the gang succeeded in hauling away a lorry-load of cash—a staggering £53 million (worth $87 million at the time)—a world-record sum. That’s when their problems began. By turns thrilling and hilarious, Heist is the compelling true story of this mind-blowing crime, including background on Lee Murray, the build-up to the heist, the robbery itself, and its aftermath. The subject of Catching Lightning, as seen on SHOWTIME.

Book Back on the Farm

Download or read book Back on the Farm written by Harold W. Sullivan and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-01-05 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Back on the Farm is a collection of 176 humorous stories Harold Sullivan wrote for his grandchildren about growing up on a farm in Comet, West Virginia, during the '30s and '40s. The moments that were the basis of the stories were frozen in time for the author, and his fond retelling--"When I was a boy, back on the farm"--recreates that life in the reader's mind too. His stories are of small triumphs, giant failures, and a few in between. They are funny tales of his relationship with his younger sister, whom as one story recounts, he convinced to let him shoot her with a homemade BB gun. This sister then pretended it didn't hurt so she would shoot him too! Many of the stories are about his hardworking mother, such as the time Harold and his sister made mud pies with eggs from the farm (a huge financial loss in the Depression) and Momma spanked them twice--once for the act and again when she found they had taken all the eggs. The hero of many of his stories was his father, a "big man" in many ways, whose battle with the "pushy cow" showed the personality of the man--and of the cow. Harold's stories are of a way of life that doesn't exist anymore in the tiny community of Comet, West Virginia, which doesn't exist anymore either. But for the people who lived there, or for anyone who has lived on a farm, the tales from Harold's memory bring back a simpler time worth revisiting. These stories, of a boy growing up among hardworking and close-knit family and community, are a love song to life, Back on the Farm.

Book Park Maker

Download or read book Park Maker written by Elizabeth Stevenson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On April 28, 1858, municipal officials announced the winner of the design contest for a great new park for the people of New York City--Plan no. 33, "Greensward" by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. Though the appropriated ground for what was to become Central Park was nothing more than a barren expanse occupied by squatters, in a matter of a few years, Olmsted turned the wasteland into a landscape of coherence, elegance, and beauty. It not only surpassed the design ingenuity of its existing European counterparts but gained the designer national acclaim in a profession that still lacked a name. Olmsted was an American visionary. He foresaw the day when New York and many other growing cities of the mid-nineteenth century would be plagued by what we presently term "urban sprawl." And he was convinced of the critical importance of adapting land for the recreational and contemplative needs of city dwellers before the last remnants of natural terrain were engulfed by "monotonous, straight streets and piles of erect, angular buildings." As a result of his early efforts to revolutionize the design of public parks, many cities today are able to preserve the recreational space and greenery within their urban limits. In addition, his thoughts and words on wilderness areas still echo across a century of preservation in the wild. This lively and insightful account of his prodigious life features many of his outstanding landscape projects, including the Biltmore Estate, Prospect Park (Brooklyn), the capitol grounds in Washington, DC, the Boston Park System, the Chicago parks and the Chicago World Fair, as well as measures to preserve the natural settings at Niagara Falls, Yosemite, and the Adirondacks. It traces his early years and describes events that were to form his artistic, intellectual, and deeply humanistic sensibilities. And it restores this lost American hero to his prominent place in history. In addition to being the acknowledged father of American landscape architecture, Frederick Law Olmsted helped shape the political and philosophical climate of America in his own time and today. Elizabeth Stevenson is the author of the Bancroft Award-winning Henry Adams: A Biography; The Glass Lark, a biography of Lafcadio Hearn; and Babbitts and Bohemians: From the Great War to the Great Depression, all available from Transaction.
