Download or read book TEA DRUNKEN written by Guenter von Hummel and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-01-27 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By describing twenty medium mountain tours, the author attempts to convey the essence of the meditation method he has developed. For the first time, meditation is explained in a scientific way. The starting point is the teaching of the psychoanalyst O. Count Wittgenstein, who assumed that the human being contains three parts within himself, which he can only combine in different ways to form a unity or unified personality. The final and ideal unity he calls the 'trialog'. As with the theme of mountain climbing, the author also explores cultural and psychological issues in order to ultimately reach the 'trialogue' through hiking, meditation and, above all, in-tellectual processing. The book also contains a guide to the practice of the method.

Book The Anatomy of Criticism

  • Author : Henry Hazlitt
  • Publisher : Ludwig von Mises Institute
  • Release : 2007
  • ISBN : 1610160231
  • Pages : 316 pages

Download or read book The Anatomy of Criticism written by Henry Hazlitt and published by Ludwig von Mises Institute. This book was released on 2007 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Henry Hazlitt published this exceedingly rare book, he was finishing up a three-year position at The Nation as literary critic, and preparing to accept the position as H.L. Mencken's successor at American Mercury. He was struggling with integrating his two main interests: literary criticism and economics. In economics, value is subjective, whereas the key goal in literary criticism is the discovery of something approximating objective value. The text of this book reflects that struggle in the form of a trialogue. Hazlitt has his characters debate the question of literary value, and pushes forward the proposition that the value of literature is discerned and revealed through the operation of the "social mind." So he ends up rejecting relativism while avoiding mistakes in economic theory. A fascinating study, brilliantly conceived and rendered by a master. As an extra bonus here, Hazlitt offers a postscript on the rise of Marxism in literary criticism. He shows how preposterous it is for Marxism to reject the main corpus of Western litertaure as hopelessly bourgeois, even while Marx himself read all the great works in his leisure. This is a highly significant essay becuase it was probably the first attack on Marxist literary deconstructionism ever written!

  • Publisher : OUP Oxford

Download or read book Natural Law written by Anver M. Emon and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an examination of natural law doctrine, rooted in the classical writings of our respective three traditions: Jewish, Christian, and Islamic. Each of the authors provides an extensive essay reflecting on natural law doctrine in his tradition. Each of the authors also provides a thoughtful response to the essays of the other two authors. Readers will gain a sense for how natural law (or cognate terms) resonated with classical thinkers such as Maimonides, Origen, Augustine, al-Ghazali and numerous others. Readers will also be instructed in how the authors think that these sources can be mined for constructive reflection on natural law today. A key theme in each essay is how the particularity of the respective religious tradition is squared with the evident universality of natural law claims. The authors also explore how natural law doctrine functions in particular traditions for reflection upon the religious other.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reveals myth and “otherness” as keys to restoring self, nature, and society • Shows how myths contain medicine to restore wholeness amidst trauma, exile, sudden life change, disability, illness, death, or grief • Synthesizes lessons from shamanic practice, quantum physics, alchemy, soul poetry, wildness, social justice, and the author’s lived experience • Discloses the blessings of outsiderhood and the gifts and insights gained and contributed to culture by those who are marginalized and outcast There is an “other” that lives within each of us, an exiled part that carries wisdom needed for ourselves and the culture at large. Having survived disabling polio as an infant, Daniel Deardorff knows the oppressions of exclusion and outsiderhood. He guides readers on an initiatory journey through ancient myth, literature, and personal revelation to discover our own true identity. These 10,000-year-old stories contain sacred medicine with insights that release imagination and restore wholeness amid trauma, exile, climate chaos, disability, illness, death, and grief. Illustrating how archetypal figures of the Other--the Trickster, Daimon, Not-I, etc.--hold paradox, Deardorff teaches us to reframe disparities of self/other, civilization/ wilderness, form/deformity and transform the experience of being outcast. Synthesizing lessons from shamanic practice, quantum physics, alchemy, social justice, and his own lived experience, Deardorff affirms the disruptive and transgressive forces that break through dogma, conventionality, and prejudice. He discloses blessings of outsiderhood and gifts to culture by those who are marginalized. Through mythmaking (mythopoesis), the experience of Otherness--cultural, racial, religious, sexual, physiognomic--becomes one of empowerment, a catalyst for human liberation.
