Download or read book Transformative Learning Meets Bildung written by Anna Laros and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-28 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume sets the groundwork for a dialogue between transformative learning and continental theories of Bildung in adulthood. Both theoretical frameworks bring meaning to the complex learning process of individuals as they develop a more critical worldview. In this volume, a variety of authors from different countries and theoretical backgrounds offer new understandings about Bildung and transformative learning through discussion of theoretical analyses, educational practices, and empirical research. As a result, readers gain greater insight into these theories and related implications for teaching for change. From the various chapters an exciting relationship between both theories begins to emerge and provides impetus for greater discussion and further research about two important theories of change in the field of adult education. /div

Book Shaping Sexual Knowledge

Download or read book Shaping Sexual Knowledge written by Lutz Sauerteig and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-01-13 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of sex education enables us to gain valuable insights into the cultural constructions of what different societies have defined as 'normal' sexuality and sexual health. Yet, the history of sex education has only recently attracted the full attention of historians of modern sexuality. Shaping Sexual Knowledge: A Cultural History of Sex Education in Twentieth Century Europe makes a considerable contribution not only to the cultural history of sexual enlightenment and identity in modern Europe, but also to the history of childhood and adolescence. The essays collected in this volume treat sex education in the broadest sense, incorporating all aspects of the formal and informal shaping of sexual knowledge and awareness of the young. The volume, therefore, not only addresses officially-sanctioned and regulated sex education delivered within the school system and regulated by the State and in some cases the Church, but also the content, iconography and experience of sexual enlightenment within the private sphere of the family and as portrayed through the media.

Book Families and Family Values in Society and Culture

Download or read book Families and Family Values in Society and Culture written by Isabelle Albert and published by IAP. This book was released on 2021-05-01 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book which has been created in the framework of the EU-funded COST Action INTERFASOL brings together researchers from 22 INTERFASOL countries, who frame intergenerational family solidarity in the specific historical, cultural, social and economic context of their own country. Integrating different perspectives from social and political sciences, economics, communication, health and psychology, the book offers country-specific knowledge and new insights into family relations, family values and family policies across Europe. Praise for Families and Family Values in Society and Culture: "This comprehensive study of families in Europe reveals the strength and variation in family solidarity and values. By drawing together detailed descriptions of continuity and change, Families and Family Values in Society and Culture provides a fascinating account of the social and cultural contexts that shape European family life. The case studies of families in different European countries compare demographic and welfare regimes to consider the challenges facing generations in Europe and responses to these. The book is an invaluable resource for researchers studying family life and inter-generational solidarity." Clare Holdsworth Professor of Social Geography Keele University "This book is based on the testimony of experts, each of them proposing analyses which are specific to their own society. It provides an opportunity for the reader to take a new look at the evolution of intergenerational solidarity in 22 countries, whose wealth, welfare systems, and demographic situations, as well as recent events (wars, migratory movements, …) offer specific challenges. It adopts the perspective of the insider to shed light not only on culture and values in each country, but also on conflicts between tradition and modernity, and between subcultures in the same society. The book thus allows better understanding of changes in intergenerational and gender relations, and the variety of solutions implemented or suggested to promote more satisfactory expressions of intergenerational solidarity for the next decade. Families and Family Values in Society and Culture provides an invaluable contribution for cross-cultural and social sciences researchers interested in understanding how different forms of solidarity arise from family and social dynamics." Book Making Italian Jews

    Book Details:
  • Author : Carlotta Ferrara degli Uberti
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2016-11-10
  • ISBN : 1137493887
  • Pages : 267 pages

Download or read book Making Italian Jews written by Carlotta Ferrara degli Uberti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book depicts the cultural imagination of the Italian-Jewish minority from the unification of the country to the end of the First World War. The creation of an Italian nation-state introduced new problems and new opportunities for its citizens. What did it mean for the Jewish minority? How could members of the minority combine and redefine Jewishness and Italianness in a radically new political and legal framework? Key concepts such as family, religion, nation, assimilation and – later – Zionism are observed as they shift and change over time. The interaction between the public and private spheres plays a pivotal role in the analysis, and the self-fashioning of Italian Jewish élites is read alongside the evolution of the cultural stereotypes typical of the time. Reinterpreting the Italian national patriotic narrative through the eyes of the Jews, Carlotta Ferrara degli Uberti is able to unveil its less known layers and articulations, while at the same time offering a new perspective from which to read the modern Jewish experience in the Western World.

Book Anti Gender Mobilizations Religion and Politics

Download or read book Anti Gender Mobilizations Religion and Politics written by Massimo Prearo and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-03-12 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an innovative exploration of the rise of political forces that have coalesced around the anti-gender movement, shaping strategies that advocate novel intersections of religion, politicization of gender and sexuality, and radical and populist rejuvenation of conservative ideologies. Through an extensive examination of activist discourses and mobilizations, the author offers a comprehensive political analysis of anti-gender mobilization, encompassing a multidimensional examination of religious, activist, and political opportunity structures. This study unveils three distinct facets characterizing these emerging (Catholic) movements: their relative autonomy from the Church (extra-ecclesiastical), their divergence from conventional religious frameworks (extra-Catholic), and their party-political alignment within the far-right area. The author proposes a new perspective on this burgeoning Catholic cause, contextualizing it within the transnational dynamics underscored by the existing literature. Particularly noteworthy is the scrutiny of internal reshaping within the Italian political Catholicism realm between the 1990s and the 2000s set against the backdrop of the dissolution of the Christian Democratic Party. Through the lens of the Italian landscape, this study extends its analysis to offer broader insights into the contemporary political uses of religion within democracies, along with contentious issues arising from gender and sexuality debates, transcending the confines of the Italian context. This book holds significant relevance for scholars and students engaged in gender studies, religious studies, social movements, populism, political science, political sociology, political history, and Italian studies.

Book Parenting

Download or read book Parenting written by Anna Marina Mariani and published by Ipoc Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a necessary commitment for a stronger preventive attitude to parenting: in other words, parents could and should educate themselves for parenthood in order to be able to provide their children those guiding maps for personal growth. Attributing so much importance to a self formation in motherhood and fatherhood, does not reduce the family to a secondary social role in order to avoid pathological issues and intergenerational clashes, rather it wants to urge in committing for their children's growth-formation without any neurotic search for perfection and educational abstentions. Will we be able to support those adults willing to be good parents but not parents acting well? The book tries to offer theoretical views choosing to privilege the informality that the family code requires in order that those parents in "normal" situations, and not only those who have problems or difficulties, would find guiding lines to appropriately face common and general issues; this not according to the strict canons of formal education, but to an education among adults that does not enclose the family in material, and always private and individual experiences, to the detriment of spiritual and more general dimensions.

Book Postal Culture

Download or read book Postal Culture written by Gabriella Romani and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nationalization of the postal service in Italy transformed post-unification letter writing as a cultural medium. Both a harbinger of progress and an expanded, more efficient means of circulating information, the national postal service served as a bridge between the private world of personal communication and the public arena of information exchange and production of public opinion. As a growing number of people read and wrote letters, they became part of a larger community that regarded the letter not only as an important channel in the process of information exchange, but also as a necessary instrument in the education and modernization of the nation. In Postal Culture, Gabriella Romani examines the role of the letter in Italian literature, cultural production, communication, and politics. She argues that the reading and writing of letters, along with epistolary fiction, epistolary manuals, and correspondence published in newspapers, fostered a sense of community and national identity and thus became a force for social change.
